Referring to the drawings, 10, is a perforated tip member; 11, is an extending actu'- ator member integrally connected therewith, the same being centrally perforated in register withthe perforation in the main tip member and is fashioned throughout a portion of its length with the spiral way 12. 13, is a tensioning member rigidly united to the tip unit at one end but having resilient free ends active to permit detachable frictional rotatable connection between the tip and pencil body. The member 13, as herein shown is adapte-d to co-act in connection with a metal ody and for that reason is fashioned with longitudinal slots to permit resilient action. Referring now to means for advancing a lead section, 21, to exposure at the end of the tip, 22, is a lead propeller adapted for entry within the tip extension member 11, and is fashioned with a laterally projecting member as 28, adapted for co-action with the spiral way 12, in the extension member and also with any one of the corrugated ways 18, in the member 17, of the shell 16. `While l have shown the lead propeller provided with a laterally projecting portion at its rear end as exemplitying my preterred form ot construction, nevertheless, l have in conception that such a lug extension may be provided at an intermediate point in its length tor co-action with the spiral way 12, in extension member 11 and that a similar projecting member may be fashioned on the propeller at the rearward portion thereof l'or coactive relationing with the corrugated portions 18, ot the shell portion 17. The eraser holder shown in Fig. 6 is inserted in the upper end otl the inner shell member 16 and tunetions to form a closure tor the upper end of the extra lead container and also hold a rubber for erasing purposes.
1n the structure herein presented I have directed thought to the development of a simple and cheap pencil structure comprising a. tip unit and main body portion that may be tricltionally joined, to the endet ready separation, also, to the simple union ot' the lead and lead propeller support with the tip to the end that by mere separation ot' the tip unit and main body member, ready access is had tor the entry ot lead sections by the mere removal of the lead propeller pin from the tip unit and whereby, mere joining action oi the tip unit to the main body, puts the pencil in condition forv operative functioning. n
More or less variation or the exact details ot construction is possible without departing from the spirit otl this invention; I desire, therefore, not to limit myself to the exact form of the construction shown and described, but-intend, in the following claims, to point out all of the invention disclosed herein.
I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. In a mechanical pencil, a hollow barrel torn'iing a handle portion, an inner tube in said hollow barrel ot' reduced cross-sectional area at one end, a tip rotatably and removably secured at one end ot said barrel, an extension on said tip adapted to extend into the reduced end ot said inner tube, a lead propeller in said extension, and a'clcarance space between said reduced end of' the inner tube. and said hollow barrel to receive extra leads which become readily accessible upon removal of the tip4 Q. In a mechanical pencil, a hollow barrel forming a handle portion, an inner tube held in said barrel and laterally spaced therefrom throughout a portion ot its inner end, a tip removably secured at one end ot' said barrel adjacent said inner end ot the inner tube, the space between the inner tube and the barrel forming a magazine tor extra leads available upon removal of said tip, and resilient securingl means associated with said tip for coaction with the lower end of saidhollow barrel to lrictionally and removably hold said tip in place thereon.
3. lln a pencil, a hollow barrel, an inner tube located within the barrel and having a reduced portion spaced from the interior ot the barrel to provide a lead magazine, said inner tube also having an enlarged portion providing` an extra lead magazine, and removable closure means for the respective magazines.
