UMTE stares ADEN R. ATTEBERRY AND IRA J. BLALOCK, F STAPLE ToNInEBRASK A,lssrenolis OF ONE-THIRD T0 CLARENCE E. MILLS, or STAPLETON, NEBRASKA.
STOVEPIPE.
Application filed March 10, 1927.
The invention relates to stove pipes, and has for its object to provide a stove pipe section formed from a single sheet of material bent to cylindrical form with its edges in overlap )ed relation and provided with longitudinally disposed rolls for the reception of an elongated member, which channeled member holds the pipe section to form.
A further object is to providev adjacent the ends of the pipe section ribs, which ribs are adapted to be received in channels of adjacent elbows or pipe sect-ions for securely locking the same together when the channeled member is forced to place.
A further object is to provide the pipe section with an inwardly extending annular rib adjacent the center thereof, which rib may be used for interlocking purposes when the pipe section is cut in half.
A further object is to terminate the rolls at points spaced from one of the ends of the pipe section, thereby allowing the reception of the end of an adjacent pipe section without interference from the rolls.
\Vith the above and other objects in view the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter set forth and shown in the drawing, described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodin'ient of the invention may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawing z-- Figure. 1 is a perspective view of the pipe section showing the channel in position to be applied thereto.
Figure- 2 is a side elevation of the pipe section showing an elbow attached.
Figure 3 is an enlarged horizontal sectional view taken on line of Figure 2.
Figure at is an enlarged horizontal sectional view taken on line 4-4 of Figure 2.
Referring to the drawing the numeral l designates the pipe section, which pipe sec tion is longitudinally split. whereby when it is drawn together its portions 2 and 3 will overlap as clearly shown in Figures 3 and 4. The portion 3 is provided with a longitudinally disposed roll 4 and the portion 2 is pro- Serial No. 174,175.
vided with a similarly shaped roll 5 formed from one single piece of material, and which rolls 4 and 5 when forced into longitudinal engagement contract the pipe section into cylindrical form and receive thereon the elongated channeled member 6, which channeled member securely holds the pipe section in contracted condition and in combination with the overlapped portion 2, prevents escape of products of combustion which pass through the pipe. Channel member 6 is cut into lengths measuring the same as one pipe section and when channel member 6 is in place it is half on one pipe section and. half on another. The rolls 4 and 5 terminate spaced from the end 7 of the pipe sect-ion, whereby an adjacent similarly constructed pipe section can be received thereon, and the inwardly extending annular rib 8 can be received in the channel 9, thereby allowing a long run of pipe to be formed if desired, or the device to be attached to an elbow 10. Pipe section 1 at a point spaced from the longitudinal center thereof is provided with an annular inwardly extending rib 11, and by being spaced from the longitudinal center it will be seen that the pipe may be cut in half when de sired, and the rib 11 will be properly positioned for connecting to an adjacent pipe section.
From the foregoing it will be seen that a stove pipe section is provided which can be easily and quickly assembled and if desired shipped in a fiat form and then bent to cylindrical form, and by providing the channeled member 6. and the ribs, pipe sections can be positively locked together or to elbows thereby obviating the present difliculty experienced with stove pipe sections as at present constructed and joined, which are a comni-on source of trouble and annoyance with joints coming apart. It will also be seen that the device is simple in construction, the parts reduced to a. minimum, and the same may be cheaply manufactured and sold.
The invention having been set forth what is claimed as new and useful is A stove pipe section longitudinally split, thereby forming adjacent edges, one of said edges being provided With an outwardly curved flange, said flange being formed by bending the material onto itself thereby form ing a double thickness, the last named flange having an integral flange concentric with the pipeuaingl ngaging the inner side-tot the pipe under tlae ldtliefis'dge theme s'aid 1a'sti named edge having an outwardly curved flange, said outwardly curved flange terminating in a rib, and a channeled member in which the rib and first mentioned flange is 10 disposed.
In testimony whereof we hereunto aflix our signatures.
