The invention relates tov machine for distributing concrete.
The object oi' the present invention is to improve the construction of machines for distributing concrete. and moreV especially the bucket driving and tripping mechanism for causing the bucket to traverse the boom and for tripping the bucket to discharge its contents and to provide simple, practical and 'eilicient'bucket actuating and tripping mechanism of strong7 durable and comparatively inexpensive construct-ion adapted to eiiect a tripping of the bucket and a clischarging of the contents automaticall).7 through the means for actuating the bucket to move the same along the boom.
A further object of the invention is to provide bucket actuating and tripping mechanism adapted to effect a positive tripping of the bucket and aL releasing of the bottom door thereof so that the concrete will be discharged over the surface or subgradc at the desired point.
Another obiect of the invention is to provide mechanism of this character in which the tripping mechanism Willrbe relieved of strain during both the outward and inward movements of the bucket in traversing the boom so that there .vill be no liability ot accidentally releasing the door of the bucket during the outward movement or subjecting tripping mechanism to undue strain during either movement.

The slidable sections of the clutches 17 and 13 are connected with a suitable shifting,` lever 19 tulcruined intermediate of its ends at 20 to a suitable bracket 21 and having an approximately inverted U- shaped upper portion 22 which is connected with the slidable clutch sections by suitable collars 23. The collars 23 mounted in annular grooves 24 of the outer clutch sections which rotate treely while the collars are held against rotation by their connection with the shifting lever. The shift-ing lever is provided at its terminal portion 25 with a fork to receive the adjustable collar. The fork 25 is located at one side ot the Llc-shaped portion which is provided at its opposite side with an e'ilarged portion 2 6 havingy an {mening-5 receiving,v the other collar. By
shift the hwer one of the slidable clutch sections may be moved into engagement with the clutch section of the adjacent drum section and the otherI slidable collar will be carried out of engagement with its cooperating clutch section and the shitting lever may also be arranged in a neutral position as illus trated in Fig. 2 of the drawings with both of the slidable clutch sections in a, disengaged position. The ll-shaped portion 22 arches the drum sections 14 and 15 which are provided at their outer sides with flanges. The inner ends of the drum sections engage a friction disk 27 which is interposed between the drum sections. The disk 27 operates as a friction disk, and two coiled springs 27 are interposed between the outer ends of the drum sections 14: and 15 and collars 271 fixed to theshatt 16. The springs exert a thrust on. each drum section toward the friction disk 17 to prevent continued rotation of the drum sections when the loose cable is paid out. The springs 27a and the collars 27b are located within the clutch sections 18,
which are tubular and `constitute `hub eX- tensions of the drums, but any other form of clutch mechanism may be employed. The drive shaft 16, which is provided at one end with a beveled gear 28 is designed to rotate continuously in one direction indicated by the arrow in Fig. 1 of the drawings and either of the drum sections may be connected with the drive shaittor windingY on it the vcable connected to it. rlhe cable 12 passes beneath the inner sheave S) and extends outwardly beneath the boom to the outer sheave 11 and it passes upwardly at the outerv side thereof to the top of the said `outer sheave and then extends to the carriage 4- and is connected therewith by the means hereinafter described whereby when the cable 12 is wound around the drum section 14, the carriage lV and the bucket 5 will be moved outwardly .on the boom. The other cable 13 cxtcnds'from the inner sheave 10 to the carriage Il. and is connected with the same by the means here inafter described, whereby when the cable 13 is wound around the drum section 15 the carriage 4 and the bucket 5 will be moved inwardly along the boom. lVhen one ot the ,drinn sections is clutched to the drive shaft for windingr its cable thereon the other drum section is loose and slips on the shaft and pei-'mits the cable to be unwound troni it by the pull of the carriage and the bucket on such cable. The shifting ot the clutch operating lever will reverse the direction of the bucket and when it is desired to stop the travel of the bucket the shiftiugrlever is moved to its neutral position. When the trip leveris moved rearwardly or backwardly by the cable 13 its lugs will engage the adjacent shoulders formed by the solid portions 40 of the side sleeves 39 and the rock shaft will be rotated in a rearward direction thereby carrying the pivot si to the rear of the dead center which releases the hinged door and permits the .sani-e to swing to its open position. This rearward movement of the trip lever is limited by the rear wall of the slot 30 of the carriage and Ythe carriage may be moved inwardly or backwardly at the desired speed to distribute its contents as required. The segmental recesses of the side sleeves are of suilicient size to permit the rock shaft to rotate freely independently of the trip lever a suiiicient distance to permit the hinged door 30 to move to its open position for discharging the contents of the bucket. llilhen the bucket is carried iuwardly by the cable 13 to return the bucket to its charging position the rollers 62 and the arms 58 will be gradually swung downwardly in a forward direction to the position shown in Fig. l and this movement of the rock shaft will carry the shoulders of the side sleeves into engagement with the lugs ot the tripping lever and the latter will be rotated in a forward direction and carried into engagement with the front wall of the slot 230 by the forward rot-ation ot' the rock share incident to the action of the cams. rl"he horizontal portions 61 of the flanges which form the cams 59 are arranged to maintain the hinged door 34 in its closed position by confining the arms 5S in the horizontal position shown in Fig. l while the bucket is in charging position and until there is a pull on the cable l2 which will prcvcn t the tripping arm from moving rear- \\'ardly in the slot 30 and operating the rock shaft to trip the locking mechanism for releasing the hinged door. There will be no liability of the hinged door being accidentally released and permitted to open during the outward movement of the bucket as the weight of the contents of the bucket will positively prevent any liability of the arms 5 sii/'inging upwardly from their horizontal position. The arms 58 will remain in such horizontal position until the rock shaft is positively rotated by reverse pull on the tripping lever.
The carriage which may be of any desired construction is composed of spaced sides 63 and la connecting transverse member 64. rlhe sides have upper vertical portions and lower downwardly diverging portions. The shoulders 57 are formed by approximately inverted L-shaped brackets or members consisting of vertical outer portions and inwardly extending upper horizontal portions which are secured to the sides of a bucket adjacent the angle formed by the vertical and inclined portions of the sides. The horizontal cross member is located intermediate of the ends of the vertical portions of the sides of the carriage and the said sides extend upwardly at opposite sides of the channels 2. The rollers 3 which are provided vwith outer peripheral flanges extend into the grooves or waysof the channels and run upon the lower flanges of the channels as clearly illustrated in Fig. 3 of the draw` ings. The rollers are preferably arranged in pairs as clearly shown in Fig. 7 and are mounted upon suitable stub axles 65.
lVh'ile the machine is designed primarily for distributing concrete any other material may be handled as will be readily understood.
Also one of the salient features of the invention is that all tripping, traveling and dumping mechanism is arranged so that the concrete or other materials do not come in contact with the movable parts.
What I claim is:
l. In a machine of the class described,'
the combination of a bucket provided with an uli-let and having a hinged door and locking mechanism for retaining the door iny its closed position comprising a rock shaft having a crank arm and a cam actuated arm disposed at an angle, the crank arm being arranged to be carried to one side of the dead center in the closing movement of the door, means for limiting the movement of the cam actuated arm, a rela-tively long upper link pivoted to and depending from the crank arm, a relatively short lower link pivoted to the lowerend of the long link and to the door, and an oscillatory link pivoted to the bucket and connected with the said links at the adjacent ends thereof for causing the said ends of the'links to move in an arc in the proper direction for maintaining a constant pull on the door in the closing movement thereof whereby the weight of the door will retain the mechanism in its locked position.

combination of a boom, a bucket movable along the boom, means for supporting the bucket, a clutch carried by said supporting means and movable along the boom with the bucket, said bucket being also provided with an Youtlet having a movable door, locking mechanism for holding the door iny its closed position comp-rising a rock shaft and-means controlled by the rock shaft for holding the door in its closed position, and a tripping lever, said tripping lever and rock shaft being provided With cooperating means whereby the tripping lever adaptedL to rotate the rock shaft for releasing the door.

In a machine of the class described, the combination of a boom, a bucket movable along the boom, means for supporting the bucket, a clutch carried by said supporting means and movable along the boom with the bucket, said bucket being also provided with an outlet having a movable door, locking mechanism for holding the door in its closed position comprising a rock shaft and mean-s controlledy by the rock shaft for holding the door in its closed position, trippingl mechanism comprising av tripping lever mounted on the rock shaft and provided at opposite sides with laterally projecting lugs, and sleeves fixed to the rock shaft and having a segn'iental recess fixed to the lugs and having solid portions cooperating Withv the lugs whereby the tripping lever is adapted to ro tate the rock shaft to release the door.
13. In a machine of the class described, the combination of a boom, a bucket movable along the boom and having an outlet provided with a hinged door, locking mechanism for holding the door in its closed position comprising a rock shaft having a camy actuated arm, and a crank arm connected with the hinged door and adaptedto be carried beyond dead center' for locking the door closed, tripping mechanism comprising a tripping lever on the rock shaft cooperating with means for kicking the crank arm over dead cen-ter to release the door when pulled in one direction, the said lever working in a slot having opposite Walls forming stops for limiting movement of the tripping lever, a cam cooperating with the cam actuated arm to rotate the rock shaft, said camV beingplaced on the b oom soi as to cause the trip'- ping lever to engage the forward Wall of the slot just prior to the bucket reaching load'- ving position, and maintaining such position until the bucket starts its rearward travel.
