GAS-KINDLING-BURNER INSTALLATION I Application filed July 26,
My invention relates to a gas kindling burner and particularly to the mounting of the same in a gas stove having a fire box for solid fuel associated therewith. A
An object of the invention is to provide, in a stove of the class described, a gas kin- A dling'bnrner so mounted that theconnections therefor-will he inconspicuous and will in no way interfere with the normal use of the II stove. A A
Another. object of the inventionis to so position the control cock for the kindler burner that it will be most accessi bleand at the same time will not detract from the apll pearance of the stove. f y A A The invention possesses otherobjects and features of advantage, some ofwhich, with the foregoing, will he set forth in the following description ofthe preferred form of my invention which is illustrated in the draw-- ings accompanying and forming part of the specification. It is to be understood, however, that I do not limit myselftothe showing made by the said drawings and description, as I may adopt variations of the'prefer-red form within the scope of my invention as set forth in-the claims,
Referring to said drawings, Figure '1 is a fragmentary front view of a stove havinga kindler installed thereon in accordance withmy invent-ion.
Figure 2 lSfisectional view taken on the line 22 in Figure-1. f A
A Figure 3 is a fragmentary plan view, partlyrin section, of the installation.
A Figure 4 is a plan view of the gas manifold at thefront of the. stove. j A Figure 5. is a fragmentary vertical sectional view through the stove showing slightly modified form of kindler pipe con-V "nection. I I A- As herewith particularly disclosed, the device of my invention is incorporated in a combination stove 4 having a cooking top 6- jbeneath a portion ofwhiohis provided a top gas burner-chamber 7 and beneath another portion of which is provided a fire box 8' arranged for the combustion of solid fuel, The chamber 7, it will now be noted, is pref- 'erably comparatively shallow, the plane of the bottom-wall 11 thereofintersecting the fire box intermediate its fuel holding portion. The wall 11, besides defining the bottomof the chambenis also utilized for the 56 support of a drip pan 10 and defines the top 1926. Serial No. 125,071.
usual practice. A
To facilitate the ignition and combustion of material 1n the fire box, kmdl-er 9 is provided, such kmdler being arranged to pro.-
A ject gaseous fuel into a part of the fire box nornially occupied by solid fuel, so that the latter fuel may be ignited when the former is burning therein. The kindlerQ, it will now be noted, comprises a manifold or pipe portion 14 having fuel discharge nozzles or jets16 extending generally horizontally therefrom. The kindler pipe/14 is preferably, andas herefshown, positioned at the outer side of the side 1? of the fire box below the wall 11,such1 side being common to the fire box and chamber 7 above the wall 11. The side wall 17 it will be noted, is perfo-" rated opposite the pipe 13 to receive the jets 16, while a guard plate 18 is provided within the fire box, such plate beingperforated in the path of discharge of the jets. It will now be seen that with the kindler thus formed and positioned, discharge of the fuel if it were either ,in the fire box or inithe burner chamber 7;, V A
=The kindler is preferably supplied with "gas may take place in the lower portion of gas from the supply manifold 12 and is connected theretov by means of a pipe 19 and acock 21. As here shown, the cock 21 is similar to the cooks 13and isconnected to the manifold at a point thereon in alignment with the. latter cocks. In this manner, the lrindler control cook 21 is presented for most convenient manipulation. and is not made conspicuous by reason of an isolated positioningrthercof, as has heretofore been the" usual practice with such cocks.
' The-oven 22, it will be noted, extends both 7 shove and below the hindler' 9, so thatthe drawer 23 must be spaced from the sidewalk 17 to permit its movement in the-oven. -To
close the gap thus provided at the front. of the stove between the drawer and side wall 17, a casing 24 is preferably provided, such casing extending from at least the plate ll to the bottom of the oven and between the drawer and fire box. The kindler pipe portion 26 opposite the jets and adjacent the drawer is conveniently utilized to provide a guiding means for the adjacent drawer side to thereby assist in directing the in and out movement of the drawer.
The supply manifold 12. it will now be noted, is preferably capped at the end re mote from the fire box and is directed downwardly from a point thereon adjacent the point of attachment of the cock 21 thereto to connect with a horizontally disposed supply pipe 27 which extends from the back of the stove through the space between the wall 17 and the drawer and below the kindler pipe and through the casing member 24, it now being noted that the kindler connecting pipe 19 also extends through said wall and then turns upwardly to lie behind, and thus be at least partly concealed by, the vertical portion of the supply manifold. In this manner. undue pro-heating of the gas in the manifold is avoided. and a maximum concealment of the various pipes is effected.
In Figure 5, I have shown a modified form of connection for the kindler pipe. In this embodiment the pipe 19 which connects the kindler pipe 14 with the manifold passes through an extended portion 30 of the casing 2d disposed in front of the burner chamber 7, and extends downward through the plate 11 to the pipe 14'. l vith this form of connection the pipe 19' is practi'ally entirely concealed.
