Description

M. BRIGGS NURSING BOTTLE COVER AND NIPPLE SUPPORT Oct. 9, 1928 Filed Dec. 16. 1926 INEVENTOR. MAEIE 5 21a as QQQQJW A TTORNEY Patented Get. 9, 1928.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MARIE BRIGGS, SAN DIEGQ, CALIFORNIA.
NURSING-BOTTLE COVER AND NIPPLE SUPPORT.
Application filed December 16, 1926'. Serial No. 155,187.
Myinvention relates tonursing bottle attachments, more particularly to protective coverings and nipple supports for nursing bottles, and the objectsof my invention are: first,to provide a nipplesupport .of this class which retains the nipple on the bottle, even when roughly used; second, to provide a device of this class which will protect the nursing bottle from breaking when dropped or thrown; third, to provide a device of this class which will prevent the' contents of the bottle from cooling rapidly; fourth, to provide a device of this class which is easy to hold; fifth, to provide a device of this class which is readily applicable to nursing bottles now 1n use, and sixth, to provide a device of this class which is easily washed, durable, elficient and sanitary.
With these and other objects in view, as will appear hereinafter, my invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts and portions, as will be hereinafter described in detail and particularly set forth in the appended claims, referencebeing had to the accompanying drawings and to the characters of reference thereon, which form a part of this application, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a conventional nursing bottle with my coverlng positioned th'ereon; Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section through 22 of Fig. 3 of the covering with a portion of the bottle shown in elevatlon to facilitate the illustration, and Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view thereof, taken through 3-3 of Fig. 2.
Similar characters of reference refer to similar parts and portions throughout the several views of the drawings.
The covering 1, protective side strips 2, bottom pad 3, and cord l, constitute the prmcipal parts and portions of my lnvention.
The cover 1, in its preferred construction, is composed of two baglike coverings 1 and 1 composed of one or more thicknesses of cloth or other flexible, yielding material, as shown best in Figs. 2 and 3 of the drawings. The two coverings are sewed together at intervals 1 and form the pockets 1 for the protective and reinforcing side strips 2. The outer covering 1 extends above the inner covering 1* and is provided with a loop 1 at its upper extremity, for receiving the cord 4. The upper part of the covering 1 is also provided with V-shaped portions 1, which allow the cord l todraw'the covering snugly around'the nipple N, thereby holding the cover and nipple N securely to the bottle. At the point where the two coverings complete the circumference of the bottle B, the two ends are sewed together and doubled back, forming the loops 1 through which the ends of the cord 4 pass. Midway from the top of the loops 1 are openings 1 from which extend the free ends of the cord 4, as shown best in F ig. 1 of the drawings.
At the bottom the coverings aresewed together, gathered and drawn to form a small circle P, as shown best in Fig. 2 of the drawings.
The side strips 2 are made of cardboard or other semi-flexible non-heat-conducting, padding material, which will deaden the jars and blows which the bottle may receive. The
bottom pad 3 is composed of several layers of cloth of some flexible, non-heat-conducting, padding material, as shown best in Fig. 2 of the drawings, and is preferably sewed to the covering 1.*
The cord 4 passes V-shape-d portions 1, and the two ends are knotted together at P. The ends then pass through the loops 1 and out through holes 1 The ends 4 are knotted to prevent the cord from pulling back into the loops 1 As shown in Fig. 1 of thedrawings, the bottle with the nipple is placed within the cover. The top part is drawn snugly around the nipple by means of the cord 1. The slip knot 45 is tightened and the free ends are pulled taut. The free ends can be attached, if desired, to another cord which is fastened to the crib, bed, or any convenient place.
Though I have shown and described a par ticular construct-ion, combination and arrangement of parts and portions, I do not wish to be limited to this particular con struction, combination and arrangement, but desire to include in the scope of my invention, the construction, combination and arrangement substantially as set forth in the appended claims.
' Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a nursing bottle cover, a pair of baglike cover members composed of pliable material, the one placed within the other and provided with longitudinal stitches forming a plurality of pockets, a plurality of semithrough the loops 1 and around the bottle nipple, and a slip knot in said cord intermediate its ends, the extended ends of said cord extending longitudinally in the side Walls of said baglike cover memhers and extending out through openings 1ntermediate the sides of the outer baglike cover member. 3
3. In a nursing bottle cover, a pair of baglike cover members composed of pliable material, the one placed Within the other and provided with longitudinal stitches forming a plurality of pockets with open ends, a plurality of semiflexible reinforcing members, positioned in said pockets so that they may" be readily removed therefrom, and a cord positioned aroundthe upper end adapted to gather the open end around the bottle nipple.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand at San Diego, California, this 8th day of December, 1926. p
MARIE BRIGGS.
