DISPLAY me.
Application filed May 21,
My invention relates to improvements in display lid adapted to be applied to original containers during the period the contents thereof is being vended. One of its ob] ects 1S to provide a display lid adapted to be do tachably applied in place of the original lid of the container, and having a hinged section adapted to lift upon its hinge to give convenient access to the interior of the container. Another object is to provide a display lid having a hinged section and having a transparent section to display the goodswhrle protecting the goods from dust and 1n ury. Another object is to provide an improved means to detachably mount the lid. Anotherobject is to provide improved means and to constructand hinge the lid sections. My invention also comprises certain details of form and arrangement and combination of components, all of which will be fully set forth in the accompanying drawings, in which;
F ig. 1 is a perspective view of a container with my improved display lid attached thereto.
Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional detail taken upon line 22 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 isa bot-tom plan of a portion of the lid shown in Figs. 1 and 2.
Fig. 4 is a sectional detail taken along the axis of the hinge ofFigs. 2 and 3 with one of the lid sections turned back upon its hinge to rest upon the top of the other lid section.
Fig. 5 is a perspective detail showing the means to hold the-transparent members in place.
Fig. 6 is a perspective view of a portion of the lid and the lid attaching means.
The accompanying drawings illustrate the preferred embodiment of my invention, in which 15 represents an original container, a candy pail or bucket for instance, from which the original wooden lid has been removed, and my improved display lid'detachably attached thereto, to serve as a lid during the period in which the contents of the container is being vended.
The display l'd comprises two sections 16 and 17 hinged together by a continuous hinge along their meeting edges, and preferably either one thereof adapted to serve as a lid to turn upon the hinge and thereby give ready access to the interior and contents of the container when in open position and to afford a protection to the contents of the container when in the closed position.
The hinge comprises two hinge leaves 19 1926. Serial 'zm gnojes.
hinge from one side to the other of the lid.
The ends of the hinge axle project at each end beyond the hinge leaves, and is threaded at each end to receive the eye 24 of a lid attaching member and a nut25. Each of the lid sections comprises asemi-circular sheet metal member 26 which forms a metal bind ing for the curved edge of one ofthe trans parent panels 27, and is provided with recess 28 to receivethe curved edge of the panel 27 and a downwardly directed curved:
section 30 which enters along the upperend of the inner face of the wall of the container 15 to form a practically dust proofjoint with said container. tional pattern and curve of the sheet metal members 26 and 30 is such as to provide a substantially rigid and relatively light frame structure to hold the transparent panel in place. The opposite ends of each frame 26" are rigidly brazed to opposite ends of one of thehinge leaves 19 or 20. The transpa-rent panels are, not inserted until after the" hinge leaves and frames are brazed together.
After the transparent panels are inserted The coi'nbined cross seca of the back or straight edges of the trans parent panels to prevent retraction of the transparent panels from the recesses 28 of the frames 26. The free ends of the sections 32 are then soldered to the inner face of one of the hinge leaves 19 or 20 by means of a globule of solder 3 to prevent accidental displacement of the transparentpanels. event that one ofthe transparent panels should become fractured, the solder globules could be heated to free the ends of sections 32, which could then be bent out of the path of the transparent panel thus enabling the fractured panel to be removed and a new panel inserted and locked in position by again bending the free ends of sections 32 into position and soldering them to theinner face of the hinge leaf. I
In order to detachably attach the lid to the open mouth of a container 151 provide attaching members held by eyes 24 to opposite ends of the hinge rod. Each attaching mem-v ber preferably comprises a pair of resilient fingers 35 and 36 united by a yoke 37 at their In the bers 40 and 41 are provided with Projections 46 formed by bendlng over one corner thereof. The members 45 and 46 interenga 'e to limit the pivotal movement of the rear race members relative to the front brace members the front side rails, which causes the standsaid rear side rails, front brace links and rear brace links respectively pivotally connected together near one end thereof upon a cross-bar and respectively pivotally attached at their opposite ends to intermediate posi front frame and rear frame relatively in their extended position and when folded one upon the other to permit said front and rear frames to assume a-collapsed position side to support the articles to be vende'd in an'inloy side and substantially parallel one to the clined position best adapted to be observed from in front of the stand. The lower ends of the front side rails are partly turned or These soft rubber feet enable the stand to be mounted upon a show case or counter without injury to the show case or counter.
The lower original package or article to be displayed 38 indicated in dotted line in Fig. 1 rests at its front edge upon and against the channel section of the cross member 27. At the rear end the lower original package 38 is supported upon the cross rod 44. The upper original package 38 is supported at its front edge upon the channeL cross member 35, and at its rear upon the crossbar 20.
The apparatus herein shown and described is capable of considerable modification within the scope of the claims without departing from the spirit of my invention.
What I claim is:
1. A display stand comprising a relatively long front frame having a short section near its upper end bent to an obtuse angle relative to the main section of said front frame and a plate spanning the lower front of said front frame, and adapted to display advertising.
matter, said front frame belng composed of front side rails and a plurality of channeled cross bars serving to space apart the front side rails and to form supports for the front of the bottoms and front ends of the downwardly inclined articles to be displayed, a
relatively short rear frame pivotally at-.
tached at its upper end to the upper end of said front frame and composed of rear side rails and cross rods serving to space apart other, and means carried by said frames to support the rear ends of the articles to be displayed independently of the support for the front end of said articles to be displayed.
2. A display stand comprising a relativelylong front frame having a short section at its upper end bent to an obtuse angle relative to the main section of said front frame, said front frame being composed of front side rails and a plurality of channeled oross'bars serving to space apartthe front side rails and to form supports for the bottoms and front ends of the downwardly inclined articles to be displayed, a relatively short rear frame pivotally attached at its upper end to the upper bent end of said front frame and composed of rear side rails and upper and lower cross-rods serving to space apart said rear side rails, front brace links and rear brace links respectively pivotally connected together at the meeting ends thereof and respectively attached at their opposite ends to intermediate positions on said front side rails and said rear side rails, sald brace rods serving when in their extended positions to rigidly support the front frame and rear frame relatively in their extended posltion and when folded one upon the other to permit said front and rear frames to assume a collapsed position side by side and substantially parallel one to the other, sald rear cross-rods serving to support the rear'ends of. the articles to be displayed independently of the channeled supports for the front ends of the articles to be displayed.
In testimony whereof I have affixed my signature.
