My invention relates to a new and useful iu'iproven'icnt in a nail container and dispenser, ot' a structure quite similar to the structure of my invention shown in my copending application, Serial No. 177,888, filed March 24:, 1927.

It is an object of the present invention to provide in a nail container and dispenser of this class a nail trough having a slotformed therein, through which the'nails may project, and provided with means for adjusting the width of the slot so as to accommodate the nailsof various sizes.

Another object of the invention is to provide in a device of this class a retaining member for preventing the sliding of the nails from the forward end to the rearward end of the trough upon a tilting of the device.

Another object is the provision in a device of this class of a pair of closures for the end of the trough, of dilferent sizes so that the lodging of a nail between'the end of the trough and the large closure will not interfere with the functioning and operation of the smaller closure and the retaining of the nails in the trough may be had at all times.

Another object of the invention is the provision of a retaining member which may be positioned about the head of the user to retain the device in position, this retaining member being preferably formed so as to be adjustable to different sizes.-

In the flange there is formed a transverse slot 22 through which a bolt 23 projects, this bolt being projected through the flange 18. A similar slot is formed in the flange 21 throu 'hwhich a bolt is projected so that these trough shaped portions may be moved 111M). approach or withdrawal on the bolt 24: as a pivot, thus adjusting the width of the slot to accommodate nails of various sizes. The forward end of the trough is closed by the closure 25 which is normally held by the spring 26 invclosing position, the bolt 27 be ing projected through a tongue 28 on the closure 25, the tongue 28 being provided with an opening suflieiently to permit necessary clearance with the bolt 27. A slot 29 is formed in the closure 25, at opposite sides of which is an outwardly projecting flange 30 to normally embrace the closure 31 for closing a slot 29, this closure being normally held by the spring 32 in closing position.

In operation, it has been discovered that a nail will sometimes lodge between the end of the trough and the main closure 25, thus permitting the nails to flow outwardly between the end of the trough and the closure 25. I have provided the closure 31 which is inwardly offset as shown in Fig. 2 so that should the closure 25 be moved outwardly to inoperative position and held therein by the misplacement of the nail, the closure 31 Will serve to close the end of the trough and prevent the nails from falling therethrough. If the nails have slid forwardly to the forward end of the trough, the user sometimes finds it necessary to raise his head so as to tilt the trough rearwardly, and the nails frequently pass to the v rear end of the trough, rendering their relit moval therefrom diflicult, or at least inconvenient. To prevent the sliding of the nails rearwardly of the trough I have mounted a pivotally mounted keeper 33 between the walls 13 and 14 at the forward end thereof, so that after the nails have passed forwardly of the forward end of the keeper, 33 their movement rearwardly of the trough will be limited. The pivotally mounted keeper 33 is provided at its rearward side with an angularly turned portion 38 which is adapted for use as a arranger so as to arrange the nails in position that they may fall through the slot, In the drawing I have illustrated the nail 39 upon which is positioned a nail 40,

and should these nails slide forwardly of the trough in this position the arranger 38 will serve to dislodge the nail 40 from engagement with the nail 89 so that its end may be projected through the slot.

Mounted on the receptacle 9 is a band the ends 35 and 36 of which overlap and are provided on their edges with notches 37. When the proper adjustment has been made to fit the head of the wearer, a cord or other fastening means may be passed around these ends .35 and 36 so as to engage in the notches 37 and thus lock the device in its adjusted position.

While I have illustrated and described the preferred formof my invention, I do not wish to limit myself to the precise details of structure sliowinbut desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention what I claim as new anddesire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. In a nail holder of the class described having a nail receiving trough open at one end; a closure for said open end of said trough, said closure having an opening formed centrally therein in registration with the, center of said trough; and a separate closure for in the opening in said closure and serving as a closure for said trough upon JHOVGIDGHY of said first mentioned closure to inoperative position.

2. A nail holder of the class described having a trough provided with a longitudinally extending slot formed therein, and open at one end, comprising: a closure for closing' said open end of said trough, said closure having an opening formed centrally therein in registration with theslot in said trough; and an auxiliary closure for closing said opening in said closure and adapted for'preventing passage of nails from said trough along said slot upon movement ofsaid first mentioned closure to open position.
