' In Fig. 1 of the drawing, I have shown for the purpose of illustra-ting one use of my invention, the two parts 5 and f a separable fastener, each part having link members 5* v and 6 respectively, the link members 5" being adapted to interlock with the link members 6 to secure the separate parts 7. and 8 of a garment or the like together. At 9, in Fig. 1 :of the drawing, I have shown one of my improved coupling members mountedupon the parts 5 and 6 of the fastener or the link members 5 and 6 thereof.
In the production of couplingmembers of the class under consideration, it is customary to construct these devices of two or more parts coupled together, by riveting, welding or otherwise to form a coupling member having diverging'channels and other structural features, but this. method of procedure is rendered inexpensive and difficult in the handling necessary to performthe several operations, the cost of such devices, and the loss sustained in imperfect devices caused by inaccurate assemblage and the like; and it is the purpose of my invention to overcome these objectionable features and to reduce thmanufacturing cost .to the greatest possible extent in the production of perfect coupling mem In carrying my invention into effect, 'I produce a unitary body byv means of die casting .or moldin a suitable metal or any other 1 hard and dura le substance that will be suitable for the desired use. In the construction shown, the coupling member comprises two substantially similar side portions 10 and 1 1 joined at one end by a partition, wall member or body 12 forming diverging -'channels 13 anti 14 spaced apart by the member 12 at one end of the device. The construction of the coupling member 5 or the formation or arrangement of the channels 13 and 14 therein which intersect at the contracted end of the device and diverge into separate discharges at the fiaredend of the device, is such as to permit of the free movement of the coupling member 9 over the links of the fasteners 5 and 6 in the operation of coupling and uncoupling the same, it being understood that the fin-like extensions 12 serve to enter the crevices formed between the links 5 and 6 of the fastener when coupled together, thus facilitating the free and easy operation of the coupling member in coupling.

Extending centrally'and longitudinally of the outer face of the coupling member 9 at one side portion thereof, the side portion 10 in the construction shown, is a rib 18' T-shaped in form in cross section and forming a slideway for a finger piece 19, said ribtforming at its opposite sides, channels 20 into which the yoke-shaped end 21 of the mit of the movement of the finger piece longitudinally of the coupling member from one end portion thereof to the other. However, it will be understood that I am not necessarily limited to any specific form of finger piece nor am I necessarily limited to the specific arrangement of the structural features of the device herein shown and described nor the use herein illustrated, and various changesin and modifications of the construction herein set out may be made within the scope of the appended claims without departing from the spirit of my invention or sacrificing its advantages.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is I 1. A coupling member for separable fasteners comprising a unitary body consisting of substantially similar side portions united by a partition. wall adjacent one end of the couside portions, said channels intersecting at one end of the coupling member and diverging atthe other end thereof, said partition wall being tapered in the direction of the intersections of said channels, said channels opening through apertures at the opposite sides coupling member 9 as seen at 22, Fig. 2 of drawing. It will be noted that the channels 20 normally open out through the rib 18 at the end portion 23 thereof as seen at 24 to .permit the mounting of the finger piece 19 in Q connection with the rib '18. But, when said finger piece is mountedin position by passing the forked end 21 thereof over the projecting lip 25 of the rib 18, said rib is forced inwardly into the position shown in full lines in Fig. 2 of the drawing to prevent the accidental displacement of the finger piece 19.
It will be apparent that the. rib construction,18 with the channels 20 at the opposite sides thereof, will permit the finger piece 19 to be mov edfrom one end portion of the coupling member 9 to the other end .portion thereof. As seen in Fig. 2 of the drawing,

A coupling member for separable fasteners of the class described comprising a unitary body having channels extending longitudinally therethrough. said channels intersecting at the contracted end portion of said body and converging at the enlarged end thereof, a ribm'ember integral with said body and extending centrally and longitudinally of one side portion thereof, means on said rib member for retaining a finger piece in connection therewith and to permit of the move ment of said finger piece longitudinally of said body from one end portion thereof to the other, said rib member being T-shaped in form in crosssection to provide channels at the opposite sides thereof, and the channels of said rib member being closed at the contracted end of the coupling member, and the other end of said ribextending onto the opposi te side portion of the coupling member and the channels normally opening through said end thereof.
7. A die cast coupling member of the class described comprising a" body contracted at one end and having a reduced extension at theother end', channels intersecting at the contracted end of said body and divergin with respect to the other end thereof, sai
channels being subdivided by a vertical partition wall member which is beveled in the direction of the contracted end of said body,
said wall having fin-like projections extend,- ing onto the inner faces of the opposite side portions of said body, and a grooved rib member on the periphery of and integral with one side face of said body and extending from A a point beyond one end thereof and onto the extension at the other end of the body.
8. A die cast coupling member of the class described comprising a body contracted at one end and having a reduced extension at the other end, channels intersecting at the contracted end of said body and diverging with respect to the other end thereof, said channels being subdividedby a vertical partition wall member which is beveled in the direction ofthe contracted end of said body, said wall having finlike projections extending onto the inner faces of the opposite side portions of said body, a grooved rib member on the periphery of and integral withrone side face of said body and extending from a point beyond one end thereof and onto the extension at the other end of the body, and the side Walls of the extension of said body and the rib member thereof being contracted to bring the end in horizontal alinement With the axis of the diverging channels insaid body.

A die cast coupling member of the class describedcomprising a body contracted at one end and having a reduced extension at the other'e-nd, channels intersecting at the contracted end of said body and diverging with respect to the other end thereof, said channels being subdivided by a vertical partition Wall member which is beveled in the direction of the contracted end of said body, said Wall having fin-like projections extending onto the inner faces of the opposite side portions of said body, a rib member on the periphery of one side face of said body and extending from one end thereof tothe other and onto the extension at the enlarged end of the body, the side Walls of the extension of said body and the rib member thereof being contracted to bring the end in axial alineinent with the axis of the diverging-channels in said body,-and.
said rib member having grooves in the opp site side faces thereof, sa d grooves being closed at one end of said body and open at the other end thereof.
10. A coupling member 'of the class described, comprising a moldedbody of unitary construction, diverging channels disposed 'at the opposite sides of said body and opening outwardly through thesides thereof,said' channels intersecting at one'end of the body and a grooved rib onlthe periphery of said body arranged centrally and longitudinally thereof, said rib being integral with one side face of said body and being T-shaped in cross sectional form to form a finger piece coupling and guide, and said rib, extending beyond the opposite ends of said body.

A coupling member of the class described comprising a body having diverging channels disposed at the opposite sides and opening outwardly through the side edges thereof, a grooved finger piece guiding rib on the periphery of said body and arranged 1 centrally and longitudinally thereof, said rib beingT-shaped in cross sectional form to provide channels at the opposite sides thereof, said channels being closed at one end of the body and opened at the opposite end thereof,
and a projecting tongue on said rib at the open end of said channel adapted to be moved into position to close the opening of saidchannel when the slide member is in use.
12. A coupling member of the class de scribed comprising a body having diverging channels disposed at the opposite sides and opening outwardly through the side edges thereof, a gmoved finger piece guiding rib on the periphery of said body and arranged centrally and longitudinally thereof, said rib being T-shaped in cross sectional form to provide channels at the opposite sides thereof, said channels being closed at.- one end of the body and opened at the opposite end thereof, a projecting tongue on said rib at the open end of said channel adapted to be moved into posi
