FIGURE WHEELED TOY.
Application filed April 26, 1928 Serial No. 273,017.
I This invention relates to new and useful improvements in figurewheelcd toys and to perform certain motions during the pulling of the toy from place to place.
In the drawings wherein like reference characters indicate corresponding parts ll throughout the several views:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved figure wheeled toy,
Figure 2 is a bottom plan view thereof, Figure 3 is a fragmentary vertical section so taken substantially upon the line 33 of Figure 1 and looking rearwardly in the direction of the arrows,
Figure 4 is an enlarged longitudinal section through the cart vunit of the toy, and
Figure 5 is a fragmentary vertical. section taken substantially upon the line 55 of said Figure 4 and looking in the direction of the arrow.
Now having particular reference to the drawings, my novel toy consists of a cart body 5 having a front and rear seating arrangement 6 and 7 the floor of the cart being equipped adjacent its rear end with a depending inverted U-shaped shaft hanger 8 between the side legs of which is extended a shaft 9 to the outer ends of which are attached suitable wheels 10, 10. Secured to the horizontal seat member 6' of the front seating arrangementb is the body 11 of a figure preferably that of a very young man the legs 12 and arms 13 of the figure being pivoted at their inner ends to the sides of the body as clearly disclosed in Figure 4. Pivoted to the sides of the body 11 at the lower end thereof are depending levers 14, 14 that project through slots in the floor of the cart 5 within the seating arrangement 6, see Figures 4 and 5.
The upper ends of these levers are formed with rearwardly extending portions that are connected to the arms 13 of the figure by suitable links 15, 15, said levers 14 beneath the floor of the cart being connected to reversely extending crank arms 16 16 formed in the wheel supporting shaft 9 by connecting rods 17 17. Pivoted to the seat board 7 of the rear seating arrangement 7 is the body of a figure .18 preferably that of a very young lady there being pivoted to opposite sides of this body 18 leg and arm members 19 and 20. Directly in front of this rear seating arrangement 7 the floor of the cart is formed with a longitudinal slot 21 upon opposite sides of which are vertically extending cars 22, 22 to which are pivoted the opposite ends of a miniature doll crib 23 the hand portions of the arms of said figure 18 being in the form of hookor eye members 24 that have loose pivotal association with the rear wall of the miniature trip at its upper edge, see Figures 3 and 4. Depending from the bottom of this miniature trip and movable through the slot 21 is a. lever 25 that is connected to the central crank arm 26 of the axle shaft 9 through the medium of a short connecting rod 28.
Extending horizontally forwardly above the forward end of-the cart 5 are tongue rods 29 between which is arranged the figure of a horse 30 the front and rear legs thereof being pivoted at their upper ends to the sides of the body as clearly disclosed in Figure 1. The adjacent front and rear legs are pivotally interconnected by connecting rods 31, 31 while between the rear legs and the said levers 14 are other connecting rods 31, 31. Suspended from the fore part of the animal figure 30 and arranged intermediate the front legs thereof is a supporting wheel 32 while attached to the bridle of the animal figure is a pull cord 33, rein cords 34 being arranged between the bridle and the front ends of the arms 13 of said front seat equipped figure 11. Obviously therefore, the movement of the toy upon the pavement or floor will result in the rotation of the axle 9 causing the rocking of the rear figure 18 and the associated miniature crib 23. Also the legs of the animal figure 30 will move in reverse directions while the arms of the front figure 11 will move in reverse directions which action will simu late the action of a human person driving a horse-drawn vehicle.
The animal tail 35 ismounted upon the upper end of a pin 36 extending loosely through an opening at the rear end of the figure body. The lower end of this pin being loosely connected to one of the rear legs of the animal body with the obvious result that a swinging of the tail will result during the swinging of the legs. I
' Even though I have here1n shown and described the invention as consisting of certain IOU detail structural elements it is nevertheless to be understood that some changes may be made therein without affecting the spirit and scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is In a figure Wheeled toy of the character described, a cart construction having front and rear seating arrangements, a figure disposed within the front arrangement, a figure having its body pivoted within the rear seat arrangement said body having pivotal legs and arm members attached thereto, a crib pivoted to the fioor of the cart in front of the rear figure, connections between the crib and the front ends of the arms of said figure, an axle shaft arranged beneath the cart and having supporting wheels upon the opposite ends thereof, and means for supporting the forward end of the cart and means between the axle shaft and said crib to cause the rocking of the crib and the simultaneous rocking of the said rear figure during rotation of the axle shaft.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
ANTON CAPEK.
