The principal object of the invention is to provide a simple means by which a registering dialor"dials ,may be operated. and may be returned to original positions.

, Referring to Figs l, 2 and 3 of the drawing, the invention comprises a cylindrical casing part 12 which is preferably provided with-loops 11 to hold a wrist strap or belt. A false bottom or diaphragm 13 divides the chamber Within the casing into two compart 'ments, one of which contains the dial 17 and the returning spring .21, and the other of which contains the dial operating mechanism. The two ends of the cylindrical chamher are closed by covers 14 and 15, which are preferably retained in place like a watch crystal. The upper orface cover 15 is provided with an opening 16 through which the numeralsO to 9, inclusive, on the dial 17 aresuccessively visible as the dial is turned.

' A lug18 at the back of the dial comes into contact-with another lug 19 on the false bottom 13 when'the numeral 0 is visible through the opening 16. Thus thelug 19 acts as a stop for the dial when the latter is released from its holding means and is returned to its original position by the spring 21.

The said detent pawl is pro vided with a tail piece 37 which is in contact In with the pin 29. i 1 I The slide-bar 27, which ispreferably con structed with an offset portion carrying the pin 29, as shown in Fig. 3, is engagedby V a normally balanced double acting spring 39 which'holds'said slide-bar in the position 7 shown in Fig. 2, with the pawls 34 and 35 in engagement with the ratchet wheel, 26, said spring returning these parts to this position after'the slide-bar has been forced inward to cause the said ratchetwhcel to be rotated the extent of one tooth by the pawl 34. From the :foregoing it :will be; understood that theimproved register may comprise either one or more dials provided with numerals andwhich dials may be operated and reset by the vsimple means herein described.

Having thus described my invention 1 claimwand desireto secure by Letters Patent:

1. In a, golf stroke re'gister,the combination 'with-a suitable casing, of a dial pivotally mounted within said casing and providedpwithvnumerals, said casing comprising a "face plate havingan opening: th-rough'which saifd; numerals -may I successively become visibleeas-saidcdial isrotated, aratchet wheel rotatable-withsaifd dial, a returningspring connected vwith said dial, aleverwithin said "casing, an operating pawl for said ratchet wheelcarried by saidllever, adetent pawl normally preventing backward, movement of said ratchet wheel-under the influenceof saidwetnrning spring, meansfor yieldingly holdingsaid pawls in engagement :with said ratchet wheel, a slide-bar connected with said lever and with both of said pawls and by 'themovements of which slide bar said ratchet-wheel maybe operated and the detent pawl be disengaged from said ratchet wheel, and a double-acting,normally-balanccd spring engaging sald sllde bar.

3. spring connected with said dial, a lever within said casing, anoperating pawl for said ratchet wheel carried by said lever, adeitent pawl normally preventing back-ward movementof-said ratchet wheel under the influencev of said returning spring, said detent pawl having a tail piece, means for yieldingly holding said pawls in engagement with said ratchetiwheel, a slide-bar provided vwith a-pin engaging said lever and with which sliderbariboth' of saidlpawls areconnected, saidapin engaging said tail piece', a

normally-balanced, double acting spring engaging said. slide-bar and by the movements .of which slide-bar said ratchet-wheel maybe operated and the said pawls disengaged from saidratchet wheel.

4. -In agolt stroke register, the combine-- tion with a dial provided with, numerals, of means for intermittin-gly rotating said dial,

said means comprising a slide-bar, a doubleacting. normally balanced. spring co-operat ing with saidslidebar, and-pawls operatively connected with said slide-bar, and i spring means for returning said dial to normal position; whereby, by the manual operation of said slide-bar said dial may be rotated or said pawls may be disconnected from said dial to permit it to be reset or returned to normal position.

5. In a golf stroke register, the combination with a rotary dial provided with numerals and a casing within which said dial is mounted, of a ratoh-wheel operatively connected with said dial, a lever within said casing, operating and detent pawls, means for yieldingly holding said pawls in engagement with said ratchet-Wheel, a returning spring for said dial, means for releasing both of said pawls from said ratchet-wheel when said rotary dial is to be returned, a

slide-bar operatively connected with said lever and said pawls, and a double-acting, normally balanced spring engaging said slide-bar; whereby when said slide-bar is moved inward from its normal position said ratchet wheel will be advanced, but when said slide-bar is pulled outward from its normal position, against the stress of said double-acting spring, said rotary dial Will be returned to its initial position.

6. The combination with a rotary member and a casing within which said member is mounted, of a ratchet-Wheel operatively connected with said rotary member, a lever within said casing, operating and detent pawls, means for yieldingly holding said pawls in engagement with said ratchetwheel, a returning spring for said rotary member, means for releasing both of said pawls from said ratchet-wheel when said rotary member is to be returned, a slide bar operatively connected with said lever and said pawls, and a double-acting, normally balanced 5 rin en a in said slide bar-.

23 b b b 3 whereby when said slide-bar is moved inward from its normal position said ratchet wheel will be advanced, but when said slidebar is pulled outward from its normal position, against the stress of said double-acting. spring, said rotary member Will be returned to its initial position.
