Description
M. COSTELLO I COMPOUND CONDIMENT HOLDER Filed Dec. 15. 1926 INVENTOR BY Away/m4, CbsTELLo ATTORNEY Patented July 10, 19
MICHAEL COSTELLO, or annsny CITY, NEW Jnnsnmg COMPOUND connnvrnnr HOLDER.-
Applicat'ion filed December 15, 1926. Serial No. 154,870.
This invention relates to condiment holders and has for its object the provision of a compound holder embodying in a single structure two shakers or distributors adapted to contain salt and pepper or other condiments which may be brought into use selectively.
It is a further object of this invention to provide a compound holder embodying two shakers in which ready flow of the condiments is assured.
Finally it is an object of this invention to provide a compound holder which is simple to construct, convenient to use and efiicient in its operation.
These and other objects of the invention will be apparent from the following description taken in connection with the-accompanying drawing in which:
Figure 1 is a front elevation of the holder;
Figure 2 is a side elevation of the holder;
Figure ,3 is a sectional view taken along the lines 33 of Figure 2;
Figure 4: is a plan View of the holder;
Figure 5 is a fragmentary View in elevation showing the closure for the holderin one of its operative positions and,
Figure 6 is a perspective of the holder showing the manner of using the same.
Referring to the drawing the holder is formed of a base member 11 of any suitable material such as glass, celluloid, wood-or metal and is provided with the cylindrical cavities 12, having the square opening 13 at the bottom. In the cavities 12 are fitted the containers 14 for the condiments. These containers may be made of any suitable material such as glass, metal, paper or celluloid. The containers are readily removable and replaceable and as a sales feature of this device it is possible for the seller of con diments to bring the condiment on the market in containers properly designed to be inserted in the cavity 12 for ready use with the container. The cavities 13 in the bottom of the base are preferably square.
Fitted over the base member 11 is the cap 15 which is provided with the side arms 16 having nipples 17 which fit into the depressions 18 in the sides of the base 11 for the purpose of holding the cap 15 in place.
There is thus provided a covering which is simple in its construction and which is very easily removable. The cap 15 is provided with ears 19 in which the pin 20 1s ournalled. The bar 21 is pivoted upon the pin 20 and is provided for tilting motion down-- as to register with the perforations 23 when the 'bar 21 is in the normal position as shown in Figure 3. These pins, therefore, serve as a closer for the perforations and when it is desired to permit the flow of material from either one of the containers 14 it is merely. necessary to depress one side of the bar 21 thereby freeingthe projections 24 from the.
In order to enable the holder to be conveniently handled and manipulated the handles 26 shown in Figures 2 and 4 of the drawing are provided. Thus the user may grip the handle 26 by means of one. or two fingers and use the thumb of the same hand to depress either side of the bar 21 to obtain the desired flow of the condiment.
While I have disclosed and described a specific embodiment of my invention I do not intend to be limited to the specific details described, but I desire to secure protection upon all aspects of theinvention as defined in the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:
1. In a condiment holder having separate reservoirs a flat cover member closing said reservoirs, said cover member being provid ed with a first group of perforations for one reservoir and a second group of perforations for a second reservoir, a flat bar provided with projection arranged to register with all of said perforations normally to close the same, and means whereby the bar may be tilted to withdraw the projections from onegroup of perforations while 'maintaining certain projections in said other group-of perforations.
2. A condiment holder having two separate reservoirs provided with a fiat top,a cover for said reservoirs, said cover being provided with perforations, a fiat unitary means normally to close all perforations in sa1d cover, sald means belng plvotally mounted on said holder, a first handle where by the holder may be held by the fingers of the user and the said meanspivoted by the thumb of the user to free the perfora tions of one cover while said other perforations are held closed, and a second handle whereby the holder may be held by the finger-s of the user" and the said means pivoted by the thumb of the user to open said closed perforationsan'dto closesa'id open perforations.
I MICHAEL COSTELLO.
