lThis invention relates to a clasp of the type more especially designed for theholding together of two ends of a bracelet of the metal band type; and the object vrofthis in-v vention is the provision of a construction whereby the ends of the bracelet overlie each .other andare forced into firm engagement with eachy other to prevent separation thereof. n
A further object of the invention is the provision of a clasp having a body which. is attached to one of the ends. of the bracelet band with the bandend spaced from a portion of the body to receive between it andthe body the Vopposite end of the band with meansffor forcing bothjthe ends together to *Y yquick and: easy detachability, I have proyvided abody so shaped `as tol receive both-y 4ends of the band with means yincluding `a cam member for forcingthe ends of the band into firm contact to prevent a separationnf prevent separation thereof. f f
This invention further-consists in the provision of a clasp having a body secured to one end of the braceletband and a pivotally meunted cam for forcing the free end of the bracelet band into engagement with the body` of the clasp to prevent separation of the parts.
With' these and other-*objects in view, the
invention consists of certain nove-l features of construction, as will be more fully described, and Vparticularly pointed out lin the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawings:v
Figure 1 is aside elevation illustrating a band' bracelet as attached `to a wrist watchl with the clasp in working position. y
Figure 2 is a perspective View showing the claspv in its gripping position for retaining the opposite ends of the vbracelet against separation.
Figure 3 is a central sectional view of the.`
clasp shown in relation to the band ends in separatedposition.`
p of Figure 4.
Figure 4 is a sectional view on substantiallyv line 4 4 of Figure 2.
Figure 5 is a sectional view on substantial- `ly line 5 5 of Figure 3.
Figure 6 is a section on line 6*--6 of Figure 4.
Figure 7 is a sectional View on line 7- Figure 8 is a perspective view of the clasp with its gripping cam removed and showing the same detached from the bracelet band.
Figure 9 is a perspective view showing the relative .position of the different plates of the clasp with the securing arms folded about i the band end to hold the same in position.
Figure 10 is a perspective view ofthe cam member for forcing the "ends into locked posi-tien. l' E la perspective view of the band l.end showing an openingtherein-to receive f Figure 11 is the lingers on the embracing arms of they clasp Jtov firm-ly secure the same thereto.
It is foundinpracticeiiitheisecuring of awr-ist watchv in position, desirable tok providefa flat metal band to encircle the wrist-,-
which I shallv be smoothu and cool lin hot weather and comforta'bleon the wrist,y andy this type of bandy which may be easily manipulated for adjusting or securing the band to the wrist of the different .users and for A:in order to provideaclaspfor the ends of the same and which may be easily manually i manipulated. to permit adjustment or devtach-ability when desired.; andthe following is a detailed description of the present em-l i bodiment of lthis'invention illustrating one means by which these'` advantageous resultsl may be laccomplished W'ith reference to the drawings,k 10 'i desig'- i nates, agwristwatchhaving band parts 11 and 12 secured theretoy by means of suitable fhooksl engaging the V4bails or lugs offa wrist watch, lthe end yportions 14 and `15 of these band parts overlying oney another and 4are secured'togethenby means of a, clasp havingfa body portion 16 which 'thas'.at one" end armsll? folded about the `-endportion e15- of` they band with iingers yley extending:
into an, opening 19 inthe band toembrace f this: end portionrand securely lock the body thereto against separation or a sliding movement, the end 20 of this portion v15 extendsy beyond the embracing arms 17 and is spaced of the opposite end 14 of the band. Ears 23 are provided on the opposite sides of the` against thefopposite end 14 and both ends toward ythe'anvil plate 21 to firmly secure the two .endsv together against separation.
from the anvil rplate 21,r as illustrated in Figure 3, to leave a gap 22 for thereception By causing the cam` member 24 to act through the bandend 20 an enlarged surface or frictional contactis secured between the ,opposit'eband ends than if merely the earn. portions 27, of the cam member were c aused to directly Contact with the end 14.
It will be apparent from the foregoing that I have provided a clasp which is simple in construction and yetV one which permits easy and quick adjustability and detachability of the bracelet and one whichis so constructed that it is durable in operation the 'opposite end lof the band, and a camA iorcing and yyet is of theminimum bulk to present a neat appearance'to avoid the undesirability The lnegoing description is directed solely towards the `construction illustrated, but I desire yitto be understood' thatl I' reserve the privilege? oi resortingytoall the mechanical ch'angesto which the device'i's susceptible,` theinvention being defined and limited only 1 by the terms-of the'appended claims.
I claim:
1. A band clasp comprising a body hav` ing arms 'to'r'eceive and secure between them and tliebody one end ofthe band and anv ing arms tor receiveand secure between them .andthe body one end of the bandn and an Y anvil plate spaced from saidband end to receive betweenitr and the said band end member pivotally `mounted in said, body'for forcing both' of said ends Vtoward said anvil plate. y,
3. :In combination with aba-nd b`racelet,"a`
' clasp having a body,'arms on the sides o't said body to embrace one end portion o'l the braceletifbandto secure itthereto with thel endvr ofthe bandextending beyond said arms,l an anvil platelspaced from the bandl Y end lto receiverbetween it and the anvil plate y theopposite end of the bracelet, ears on said anvilr plate,A and a" cam `member pivoted in said ears'in Contact with the extending band endl for forcing it and the opposite end to ward theanvil plate to prevent separation of the said ends.
L In combinationwithial metal bracelet having an opening in one end portion,a. clasp having a body to receive the end having said opening, arms on said body toembr'ace saidend portion, fingers on said arms to extend into said opening to secure the end to thc body, the end of said bandy havingA a portion extending beyondy said y y arms, an anvil plate spaced from the extending band end to receive between-it and the anvil plate the'opposite end of the bracelet, ears on'said anvil plate, and a cam mem'- ber pivoted in sald ears in Contact with the extending band'end for forcing it and the opposite end toward the anvil plate to vent separation of said ends.
5. A band clasp comprising a body,` a
pre-
j band in saidvbody,`means for permanently securing one end portion oi` the band to said body at a point removed romthe extremity of said band leaving a portion of the band extending in the same direction beyond said securing means, a portion of the body being offset tfrom said securing means to provide a space between it and the extending portion of said band end for receiving the other end of the band, and means positioned to en gage the extending end 'portion to force `it toward said offset portion and clamp the ends of the band in the body. n
6. A band clasp comprising abody, a band in said body, means permanently securing one'end portion of the bandito said body at a point removed from the extremity of said band leaving a portion of the band extending in the same direction beyond said :securing means, a part of said body7V being spaced from` theextending portion of the band for receivingfthe opposite end of the band, and means for engaging the extending band end and binding the received portion vbetween said extending band end andthe In testimony 'whereof I aiix my signature.V
