KIT FOR SEWING OUTFITS OR THE LIKE.
Application filed April 11, 1927.
This invention relates to articles ot manufacture and has for its object to provide a kit tor sewing or knitting outfits which will be compact, durable and which can be con veniently carried in oncs pocket or bag7 without taking up much space.
ln the accompanying drawing which forms part of this specification, F ig. 1 is a perspective view of the kit in natural size; and Fig. 2 an enlarged longitudinal section on line ot Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawing more in detail7 10 denotes a kit ol" rigid material, such as wood7 made in form ot an oblong or egg shaped hollow body 10. This body is coinposed of two sections, one section constituting the main portion having a cylindrical bore 10', and the other being a sefvment 11 at one end thereof serving as a lid. This segment 11 is 'formed centrally on its inner tace with a hollow cylindrical extension or shaft adapted when the sections are assembled to project .into the cylindrical bore 10 oit the main section. The part 12 of this extension adjacent to the inner tace et said segment or lid 11 is in form of a collar to lit snugly in the outer end of the cylindrical bore 10 and to trictionally hold said lid in closing position.
The other part of the cylindrical extension is provided on its circumference with two or more annular spaced flanges 13, 111 smaller in diameter than the collar 12 and forming spools for thread z'. The said cylindrical 'extension is also provided with a central bore 15 which at its outer end is closed terminating in the segment or lid 11 and which is open at is inner end. This bore 15 serves as a receptacle for articles N such as needles, The open end of the bore 15 may be somewhat enlarged as at 15 to receive the end 16 of a cap or stopper 16 for said receptacle. At the end opposite the lid 11 the body 10 is provided with a longitudinal central bore 102 which extends clear through said body, forming an opening 103 and terminating at is inner end in the cylindrical bore 10. This bore 102 is of circular cross section gradually diminishing in Serial No. 182,748.
width toward the outer end 10g so as to contorni with the usual size and tapered shape of ay thimble T and to serve as a socket thereit'or. Owing to the outwardly tapered shape oi" the socket the thiinble could be inserted into it only from the inside of the casing 10 and cannot fall out through the opening 103. In length the socket 102 is slightly smaller than the thiinble and so adineasured that when the thimble is borne therein as shown it will rest with its open end against the inner end ol said cylindrical extension of lid 11. The top ot the thimhle being exposed through the opening 103 and thus accessible to the linger of the user, the lid 11 which tightly lits in the body 10 can be easily opened hy pressing on said thimble.
lVhat l claim is:
1. As an article of manufacture, a kit for a. sewing or knitting outfit, comprisingan open ended casing of rigid material, a lid frlctionally engaging one of the open ends ot said casing, a cylindrical extension in said lid formed with a hollow open at one end7 said extension being adapted to project into said casing and having annular flanges to form spools for thread, the hollow of said extension serving as a receptacle for articles, such as needles or the like7 a cap tor closing the opening of said receptacle, and a socket at the open end of said casing conforming in shape and size with a thimble so that the latter can be inserted only from the inside oi" said casing and can be moved inwardly to open the lid.
2. A kit ior a sewing outlit or the like comprisinga casing open at both ends, a lid lirictionally engagii'ig one end ot' said casing and formed with a hollow extension adapted to project into said casing, the outer face ot said extension serving as a spool for thread and the .hollow thereof serving as a receptacle for needles or the like, and means movably supported in the other end of said casing and adapted to normally hear against said extension7 so that by pressing thereon the lid will be removed.
1n testimony whereof I my signature.
