such fasteners being now commonly employed on purses, bags, tobacco pouches, garments, shoes and elsewhere. L C
` As heretofore constructed such hookless fasteners have'been unsatisfactory forl use on the front edges of sweaters and similar garments and similarcaseswhere it is desirable disconnect the parts onv which thecoupling members are mounted because a' sweater equipped with s uch fastener must be drawn over the taking it Ao'r the body instead of permitting the same to bev used like an ordinary open front coat or jacket.
It is the object of this invention to provide a slide hookless fasteners ofthis character which is divided into sections capable of being connected and disconnected so that the slide will operate as a unit when its sections are united and permit of connecting and disconnecting the twogrows of coupling members for closing and opening the garment more or less and also permitting of completely disconnecting the parts of the arment or the like on o joint between the parts t ereof.

On their opposing longitudinal edges these strips are provided with stringers 12, 13 upon which are respectively mounted two longitudinal rows of coupling members K14:, 15 the members of the row 14 being provided on the rear edges with sockets 16 and the opposite ends of the members 15 being provided with claws '17 which engage with the sockets of the companionfcoupling members. Adjacent to the lower ends of the two rows of coupling members the strips are detachably connected by an eye y18 secured to one strip, and al` hook 19 arranged on the other strip and engaging with said eye.
The coupling members are connected and disconnected by thefollowing means, whichv 'is constructed in accordance with my 'v invent1on:-
The numerals 20,21 represent the two connecting and disconnecting the sections of hec sections of a longitudinal movable slide, each of which is constructed in the form of a channel, the outer open or slotted side 22 of which embraces one of the rows of coupling members so as to be capable of sliding lengththeir closed inner sides in .engagementl and the same are held against longitudinal relative movement but compelled tomove together by an alining pin 26 arranged on the vinner wall of the shde section 2l and engaging with an opening or recess 27 in the inner wall of the other slide section, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3.
For the purpose` of retaining the lock in its operative position a catch lever 28 is rovided which is pivoted on a post 29 havlng a reduced lower ortion 8 secured in an opening 9 in the loc body and projecting throughalongitudinal slot 30 in the top of the slide section 20, the front end of this catch lever being bent inwardly to form a catch 31 which normally projects through the upper end of the slot 30 and into engagement with a recess 32 in the body of the lock and a shifting lever pivoted on the rear arm of said catch lever and provided at its inner end with a cam 34 adapted to engage the outer side of the slide section 20 and at its outer end with a' finger piece `35, whereby the same is manipulated.
When the sections of the slide are thus locked together the same form a unit which operates-in the usual manner of the slides heretofore known for successively engaging and disengaging the rows of coupling members on the opposing longitudinal edges of the plarts on which they are mounted, whereby t e joint between thel connected arts is closed when the slide is run up and tlie joint ispplened lwhen the slide is run down.
en however it is desired to completely disconnect the two parts which carry the coupling members the hook and eye at the lower ends of the coupling membersare disconnected and the shifting lever is'turned so that the low part of the face on itscam stands opposite the slide section 20 at which timel the catch lever is disengaged from the body of the lock. The latter is now released and free to be moved upwardly by means "ofethe linger piece 35 for dis'engaging the beak of the 4lock from the slide section 21, thereby unlocking the slide. sections -from each other and permitting-them to be separated. When this is done the parts of the garinent or similar article provided with this fastening may be completely separated along the meeting edges which are normally joined, thus permitting of opening a awide space between these edges so as to render the several parts more accessible and also more convenient in use. This is particularl'r desirable in the case of coats, jackets or the like which can-be put on and taken oil' like an ordinary coat much more easily than if the same have to be drawn over the head for this purpose. Such division of the slide is also useful for opening and closing the covers of receptacles inasmuch as the provision of means for detachably connecting the sections of a divided slide permit of more extensive and convenient access to the interior of the receptacle.
I claim as my invention l. A fastener comprising two rows 0 coupling members adapted to be interlocked and to be mounted on the parts to be coni nected, a slide havingtwo channel sections' said rows of coupling 90 adapted to receive members, means for detachably connecting said sections, comprisinga lock having a body movable lengthwise in one of said sections and a beak ada `ted to engage the other section, and means or alining said sectionsrelative to each other.
