coLLArsIBLE wanmmmi.
Application filed April 15,1927. Serial No. 184,096;
.This invention relates to' storage devices, Wardrobes, and has for its particularly to object the provision of a novelwardrobe which may be qulclrly and easily setup for use to form an enclosure within which gar.- ments of various kinds may be stored, or which may be just as easilycollapsed into a small and compact bundle convenient for transportation or storage.
An important object of the invention isto this character which is particularly well-adapted for use by-traveling people and also by campers andothers, the device being preferably constructed of water-proof material of a flexible nature so 'as'to constitute adequate protection for-the garments hung therein. I
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which embodies only two rigid frame members which 'are themselves foldable and provided with novel means for maintaining them in extended position. when in use, an advantage of this construction beingextreme lightness in i preferable that the material be "Water-proof I weight. I
Another object is to provide a .deviceo-f'this character provided with pockets'adapted to contain insecticide whereby the device will beofparticular advantage for usein the tropics where insect life is very abundant.
' Additional objects are to provide a device of this "character which will be simple .and inexpensive in manufacture, easyto set up and use, or knocked down for transportation, positive in action, eflicient and durable in service, and a general improvementin.
the art. o I With the above consists in the details of constructionand the arrangement and combinationof parts: to be hereinafter more fully described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which: 1
Figure 1 is a perspective'view of the com- Figure 5. is a perspective view'of thejide vice folded or collapsed into compact form. Figure 6 is a detail section taken on the line 6-=6 of Figure Land:
and other objects and advantages in wow, the invention preferably.
Figure 7 is a detail perspective view of the bottom frame member. Referring moreparticularly to the dr-aw-' ings. .I have shown the device as comprising similar upper and lower frame members 10 and 11, each of which is here shown as includinga pair of sections 12 hingedly con-;
nected at 13, these sections being preferably 1 of slat like form though obviously this is not necessary as it is conceivable that they could'be solid if preferred for any reason.
The hinges 13a re located at the bottom of the sections so that when they are supported at the ends, the hinges will .act to prevent the sections from folding together or onto one another.
' In addition to these top and bottom frame members the device includes a flexible casing designated as a whole by the numeral 1 -4 and including a back portion 15, sides 16 and afront 17 as well as a top 18 and bottom 19. Canvas, oil-cloth or other similar ma-- terial may be employed for the purpose of forming these elements-and it is of course especially if the device be intended for use out ofdoorsor in a very dampclimat'e. The
which ever is preferred, and these elements are continuous whereas the front 17 is cut away in order. to provide an opening which is adaptedto be closed by means of a curtain 20 which may be stitched or otherwise. secured at one. edge and suspended at its top by loops 22 or the like and which is provided at its bottom and at its other edge with snap fasteners or the like 23 by means of which it may be fastened down to form a complete closure forthe front of the device. Obviously, there are no restrictlons as to the particular type of snap fastener used, as it 1s clearly apparent that turn-buttons could-be employed with equal advantage.
Another feature is the provision of a plus rality of fabrlc or other suitable pockets 24 the like which are repulsive to insects so that fany garment stored within the device will be protected from the ravages of moths orother insects.
As an additional feature. either or both of the sides 16 may be providedwith pockets located. on the insideof the fabric covering or wall and designed for thepurpose of. holding insecticide or material, chemicals or- 25 within which may be stored'handkerchiefs, socks or other small articles such as collars, neckties and the like. These pockets may or may not be provided with closure and which may be of any ordinary or preferred type or of special design as preferred.
by the manufacturer.
It is intended that the device be suspended when in use and for this reason I havedisclosed wooden or other blocks 28 adapted to be fastened to 'a wall, tree or the like, these blocks carrying hooks 29 and 30, the latter of which are engaged by screw eyes 31 carried by the rearmost- .slat of the top frame member 10. The hooks 29 are adapted to be engaged by rings or the like 32 forming part of or connected with chains 33 which are threaded through screw eyes or the like 34 carried by the top frame member 10, and which are connected with other screw eyes 35 mounted at the forward edge of the top frame member. It will be apparent that when the chains 33 are threaded through the screw eyes 34 and connected with the screw eyes 35, the top frame member, and consequently the entire device will. be adequately supported, the hooks 30 really serving simply to steady the entire structure in its suspended position.
In the use of thedevice, it is of course apparent that garments of any and all descriptions may be hung therein and other articlesbe stored within the pockets 25. Clearly, the garments will be protected from injury by light, insects, dust, dirt, moisture and the like, and will be kept in proper con dition ready for service at any time. When use of the device is not desired, it is readily apparent that it may be detached from the suspension means and be folded into compact form as clearly illustrated in Figure 5 of the drawings, so as to occupy the minimum space in transportation or storage.
From the foregoing description and a study of the drawings, it will be readily apparent that I have thus provided a very simply constructed, inexpensive and highly efficientdevice for the purpose specified and one which will perform all functions for which it is intended. It is really believed that the construction, operation and advantages will be readily apparent to one skilled in the art without further explanation.
While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of the invention, it
should be understood that I reserve the right to make such changes in the form, construction, and arrangement of parts as will not depart from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claims.
Having thus described the invention, I claim 1. A device of the character described comprising top and bot-tom frame members, a closure connected with said frame members and formed of flexible material, the clo-' sure having an opening in its front provided with a movably mounted curtain for closing the same, and suspension means for the device including attaching members, suspen sion elements mounted on the attaching members, flexible members detachably en-' gagged upon the suspension elements, and
guides carried by thetop frame member and through certain of which said flexible members are threaded and with certain others of which the flexible members are detachably connected. I
2. A device of the character I described comprising top and bottom frame'members each formed of a pair of sections hingedly connected at the bottom, a closure connected with said frame members and formed of flexible material the closure includin a u a i 6 back wall, sides, a top, a bottom, and a front portion having an opening therein, and a movably mounted curtain for closing the open portion of the front, and suspension means for the device including attaching members, suspension elements mounted on the attaching members, chains detachably engaged upon the suspension elements, and
guides carried by the hinged sections'of the top frame member and through certain of which said chains are threaded and wlthl certain others of which the chains are detachably connected.
3. A device of the character described. comprising top and bottom frame members each formed of a pair of sections hingedly connected at the bottom, a closure connected with said frame members and formed of flexible material, the closure including a back wall, sides, a top, a bottom, and a front portion having an opening therein, and a movably mounted curtain for closing the open portion of the front, and suspension means for the device including attaching members, suspension hooks mounted on the attaching members, chains detachably engaged upon the suspension members, and screw eyes carried by the hinged sections of the top frame member and through certain of which said chains are threaded and with certain others of which the chains are detachably connected, the entire device being into compact form adapted to be folded when not in use.
