@ur present invention has reference toman article of furniture, and our primary object is Vto pi'rxlpcefamarioleyof this character convertjilleinto -a-ffolldingA library table, a dressing table and a Writing desk.
The invention further resides in the novel construction, combination and operative association of parts such as is set forth in the following description and pointed out with particularity in the appended claim.
With these and other objects in view, reference is to be had to the drawings which accompany and which form part of this application.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a front elevation of the improvement employed as a library table.
Figure 2 is a top plan view thereof.
Figure 3 is a sectional View approximately on the line 3 3 of Figure 2, showing the device when employed as a dressing table.
Figure 4 is a sectional view approximately on the line 4-4 of Figure 3, illustrating the device in the position disclosed in the said Figure 3, but illustrating how the same may be also employed as a writing desk.
Figure 5 is an elevation showing the device in set-up position.
Figure 6 1s a detail view of the pivoted dofrs embodied in the invention, and
`igure 7 is a view partly in elevation and partly in section of one of the swinging drawers embodied in the invention.
Our improved article of furniture includes a top 1 which is supported at its corners on legs 2. Below the top, the legs and if desired the said top have secured thereto rear, side and bottom members to provide compartments for slidable drawers 3 which open from the front of the furniture and a central compartment 4 closed by a door 5. The door 5 is hinged to the lower wall of the floor 6 that provides the compartments, suitable means 7 being employed for normally latching the door 5 to the top 1.
The drawers 3 are comparatively shallow, that is, they do not extend the entire depth of the compartments in which they are re ceived, while the rear of the compartment 4 is divided by partitions into pigeon holes 8. The side walls ottl the compartment 4, indicated for distinction by the numeral 9, have openings therethrough forward of the pigeon holes, and pivotally secured, as at 10 at the front or forward port-ion of the said openings there are swingable drawers 11.
`These drawers have their outer wallsroundy ed, being struck from the pivot 7 so` that-,the
same will. readily swinginto thecompart- Aments 12 tothe rezvuofithe.drawers 3.
are foldable against the frame 14 and are of a width approximately half of that of the said frame 14. rFhe frames 14 and 16 have mirrors therein.
The lower corners of the frame 14 are notched, and in these notches there are pivoted, as at 17, metal straps 18. Pivotally secured to the straps 18, as at 19, there are links 20, the said links having'their free ends pivotally supported, as at 21, to the outer sides of the walls 9. In the path of contacting engagement with the lower edges of each of the links 20 there is a pivotally mounted dog 22, each of which being supported upon a suitable bracket 23 secured to the said walls 9, and each of the dogs is influenced by a spring24. Vhen the mirror frame 14 is swung to vertical position the spring influenced dogs will be brought beneath the links 20 to effectively support thc frame in such position. The side 'frames are, of course, swingable on the main frame 14 so that the mirrors in the several frames may be properly positioned with respect to the user of the device when set up as a dressing table. An outward pull on the dogs 22 will disengage them from the links 20 and permit the lmirror frame 14 to be swung downwardly to cover the opening in the table top. Before this is done, the side mirror frames 16 are swung against the main frame 14, and suitable means 25 is preferably employed for latching the confronting ends of these side frames together. The main frame is of a greater' length than the side frames, and when in closed position the main frame will rest on the walls 9 and likewise rest on the door 5 when the latter is swung to closed position.
It is thought that the foregoing description, when taken in connection with the llo invention, we
link pivoted to each strap and pivotally supported below and at the rear of the frame, a
pivotally supported dog arranged beneath each Alink and spring `meanss invfiulenceing the dog for contacting,r engagement with the lower edge of the link when the frame is swung from horizontal to Vertical position, for sustaining the frame in such position.
In testimony whereof we affix our signatures.
