UNITED STATES PATENT Frron.
GEORGE R. EAGER, OF BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
IMPROVEMENT IN OVERALLS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 167,320, dated August 31, 1875; application filed March 19, 1875.
CASE H.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE E. EAGER, of Boston, in the county of Sufl'olk and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pantaloon-Garments, Blouses, 8E0. and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification, in which Figure l is a rear isometrical perspective View of a garment having my improvement applied thereto, and Fig. 2 a horizontal section of the same taken through the waistband, the strap being left unsectioned.
My invention relates to an improvement on the method of adjusting garments to persons of different sizes, patented to me June 11, 1872.
My present improvement consists in combining with a hollow waistband made in two parts or halves, and provided with two blank buckles or loops, a single strap having two unattached ends, and two connecting-buckles secured thereto at or near its middle, which form gives a greater capacity to the garment for adjustment to large and small persons.
To enable others skilled in the art to make, construct, and'use my improvement,I will now proceed to describe it in detail, omitting a particular description of such parts as are old, and not essential to a full understanding of my present improvement, here premising that the invention is equally applicable to all kinds of pantaloon and othergarments, such as pantaloons, drawers, veralls, blouses, 86C.
The waistband is made in two parts or halves, a and b, and each of these either wholly or partially hollow. As represented in the drawings, they are only partly hollow. At the inner end of the hollow part of each half is arranged and firmly secured to the band a blank buckle or metallic loop, 0 or 0, through which one end of the adjusting-strap d is'made to pass, whence it is brought back and out through the opening in the rear end of the band, and thence through a buckle, f or f, made fast to the middle of strap d, in the manner-shown in Fig. 2, from which it will be seen that the adjusting-strap consists of a single piece carrying two buckles, ff, at its middle, and having its two ends pass into their respective halves of the hollow waistband up to, and there reeved through, one of the loops 0 or c at the inner ends of the hollow, and thence back again and out of the band, whence they are passed through the buckles ff, and then fastened when drawn sufliciently tight to adjust the garment to the wearer. This mode of combining the strap with the waistband enables the garment to be made open behind, on the plan of a gusset, and enables the garment to be fitted to large as well as small persons. Each of the blank buckles ff should be provided with a frictionroll to facilitate the passage of the straps.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
An unattached strap, 01, provided with two I buckles, ff, in combination with a waistband made in two parts, a and I), each of which is provided with a loop or blank buckle, c or c, in the manner and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention 1 hereto affix my signature.-
GEORGE R. EAGER. Witnesses:
