The present invention relates to an attach-v the wood working ment for a work bench in` art or the like, and has for itsprincipal object to provide a structure which ywill function broadly as a work holder in an eiiicient and reliable manner.
Another important object of the invention is to provide an attachment of'this nature which will hold work for various operations such as planing or the heldhorizontally on the bench or vertically thereof.
Another very important object ofthe invention is to Vprovide a structure of this nature which is easily adjusted for different sizes and one which is strong and durable, yet simple in its construction.
l/Vith the above and numerous othery objects in view aswill appear as. the description proceeds, the invention resides in certain novel features of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter morefully described and claimed.

Referring to the drawing in detail,`it will `A be seen that letter A denotes the top of a work bench. The number 5 denotes the platform or body of my attachment, from which extends a pair of arms 6 adapted to be fixed to the under surface of the work bench A so that the platform 5 is flush with the upper surface thereof. The attachment is preferably located in one corner of the bench A so that one longitudinal edge 0f the platform 5 is contiguous with the one edge of the work bench while one edge of the platform is in alinement with another edge of the work bench as is clearly illustrated in Fig. l.

Any elongated stationary jawr15 isdis# posed adjacent one arm 7 and is'supported by the worm shaft v14, the latter being journaled therethrough -as is,` clearly fillu'se trated in Fig. 6. The worm shaft is threadedthrough a nut 16 iixedto a movable jaw 17 throughwhich the shaft also extends'.
A .polished lrod 18`-extends longitudinally-of the platform 5 being lixed to the upper ends ofthe frames 8 by welding or in any other suitable manner.
The jaws 15 and 17 are vertically disposed, and slidably engage the polish rod 18 and the bar 9. As is illustrated to advantage in Fig. 2, the upper end of each jaw is reduced and terminates in a gripping portion 19 which is preferably serrated or otherwise scored to provide a roughened surface. A crank 20 is xed on one end of the worm shaft 14 so that rotary motion `may be imparted thereto for sliding the movable jaw 17 toward or away from the fixed jaw 15.
It. will thus be seen that a piece of Work may be clamped between these jaws 15 and 17 to rest on the platform 5 and work bench It is also to be ynoted that the bars 11 may be raised or lowered, thereby raising 0r lowering the parts supporting thereon such as the shaft 14 and the jaws 15 and 17. This allows an adjustment so that the work may be clamped in such a manner that the jaws 15 and 17 will not protrude upwardly beyond the upper surface of said work.

A recess 30 is provided in the platform 5 and a sheath 3l depends from the lbottom of the platform in registry with an opening leading into the recess 30. VThe ysheath 31 slidably receives a shank 32 having astop head 33 onthe upper end thereof seatable inthe recess 30. This stop head onfone longitudinal edge is preferably `provided with teeth 34. A set screw 35 is threaded transversely through -the sheath 3l so that the stop head 33-may ybe raised or lowered and vheld in different adjusted positions in relation to the upper surface of the platform 5. This stop head is used so that a board resting on kthe work bench may have one end in engagement therewith, and the head may be positioned below the upper surface of the board in order that said board may of course, may be used in lother .I have described the details of this invention in each` instancewith The stop,

The present embodiment of the invention has been disclosed merely by way of example, since in actualpractice it has proven to be compact and convenient, and to attain the other features ofadvantage enumerated as desirable yin the statement of the invention and the above description.
It is apparent, however, changes in the details of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts maybe resorted to without departingvfrom the'scope or spirit inafter. claimed, or vantages. y
Having thus described lmy invention, what I claim kas new is sacrificing any of its adv.A device of the class described'including` in combination, a` platform,` means for mounting the platform on a work bench so that the upper surface of the platform is flush with the upper surface of therwork bench,clamping means mounted onone side of the platform, the second means so that said means may be a movable clamp associated with one end of the platform, said platform provided with a recess, a stop head seatable in said recess, and means for raising and lowering the stop head.
