IMPROVEMENT IN PROCESSES FOR ORNAMENTING CHINA, GLASS, &c.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 167,289, dated August-31, 1875; application filed May 11, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL M. ADAus, of the city of New York and State of New York, have invented a new and original Process for Ornamenting China, Glass, Porcelain, Earthenware, &c.; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact descripupon this layer is formed any desired design in oil, or other suitable adhesive coloring material.
The design may be applied by any' of the well-known methods in common use, as flexible type, hand'tracing, or stenciling.
The oil, incorporating with the vitrifiable color at the parts in contact, binds the design to the surface, and the surplus color, or that part of the coating not covered by the oil design, is washed off, thus leaving such design intact upon the surface, and is ready for firing.
What I claim as new and original, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The method herein described of ornamenting china, glass, 8470., by means of vitrifiable colors mixed with water, and applied to the object to be decorated in acoating of the desired thickness, a design being then printed on or otherwise applied to such coated surface with oil, and then such part of the coating not covered by the said design being brushed off or otherwise removed, the article so decorated being subsequently subjected to heat for the purpose of burning on or fixing the design upon the same, substantially as set forth.
