Third, tol provide an improved laundry drier which is of'very large :cap'acity'and one `invvvhieh theclothes are lett in a iuil'y v Vunvvrinkled condition, it being possibleto evenly -dry a quantity of clothes tokthe desired condition for ironing or toa completelyndriedcondition, as may be desired. A'Objects pertaining to details and econo- V mies of construction and operation `of my invention will y definitely appear from the detailedl descriptionV to follow. vThe inventionV isclearly deined and pointed out 1n l the claims.
- A structure' embodying the eatures'of my invention is clearly illustrated in theaccoinpanying drawing forming a part yof this application, in which: f F ig. l is a lrontelevation of a structure embodying the'featuresvof my invention, a portion o't the housing ybeing broken away lto show the parts Within.
i Fig. 2 is a vertical section on a line corresponding to line 2 2 of Fig. 3, parts being shown in fulllines for convenience in illustration. f f f yFigx-S Ais a horizontal section on -a line corresponding'to line 3-3of Figs. 1 and 2. Referring `tothe drawing; the supporting f1-mein the embodiment illustratedlcomrprises\abasecasting l supportedin an ele- "vated position by the legs 2. Onv this base is a housin" 3 lfor parts ofthe mechanism and on this is supported a drying chamber 4. This drying chamber is preferably cylindrical asillustrated and open' at the top for the passage of air-therethrough, a'screen 5 being provided to prevent any'ofthe articles to'rbe dried being 'carried ythrough by. the 'current or blast of air.
Within the housing?) is a framework 6 f having spiders 7' at the top supporting the ver-ticalbearing 8 for the reciprocating rod 9. v"On this rod 9 is a spider-like frame 10 192e. .serial 1r."125,944.v
supporting the screen orforaminated bottom 11, the bottom being thus supported for vertically reciprocating movement. The flexible extension l2 is secured to the edge of the bottom and the outerfedge vof this extension is Isecured tothe side ofthe dryingchamber y In the bottom ofthe housing 3l is a fan 13 which. is,` carried by the verticalshaft `14 mounted on the` bearing -15 in the base cast-` ing l` andon a suitable 'bearing inthe yoke# like hanger 16 depending from 'this casting. This hanger alsoprovi'des asupport` forl the inner end of the driving shaft-l7` which is connectedby the beveled gears-18 tothe shaftli.
4In the embodiment illustrated thei'oraminate bottom is reciprocated by. a mechanism comprising the lever 19,Which is .pivoted at 20 on the frame y6 and engaged by avcrank lpin'2l on the gear 22...l This gear is driven' from a Worm 23 on ashaft 24 arranged horif zontally in suitable'bearings on the frame 6 and connected by the gears 25. and27 to the ian shaft. With this arrangementthe bottom is intermittentlyv reciprocated, being raised andv allowed to fall, thus in eEect tossing the clothes upwardly inthe current ofair. produced by therfan or other suitable air blast means..I This loosens the clothes so Vthat they are more readily` .picked up and held inr suspension bythe blast of air.
