JUSTABLE SHIRT SLEEVE.

Application filed August 28, 1928. Serial No. 132,275.

It is an object of this invention to provide a shirt wherein the total sleeve length may be adjusted a reasonable amount to fit the particular wearer while maintaining the 6 appearance of the shirt the same under all conditions of adjustment. More particularly it is an object of this invention to produc e the adjustment by varying the relative posltion of the cuff with respect to the sleeve,

the end being permanently attached to the sleeve.

The attainment of these and other objects will be apparent from this specification taken in conjunction with the drawings .1 forming a part thereof.

In the drawings, Figure l is a front view of one of the sleeves with the cuff adjusted for maximum length; Figures 2, 3, and 4, are side views illustrating the and in different adjusted positions.

The shirt sleeve indicated at 1, forming part of my improved shirt has the usual opening at 2, and button hole at 3. At 4 and 5 are indicated two buttons for a purpose hereinafter to be explained. The cufi is formed of anintegral piece of material which is folded upon itse f and the two coinciding edges sewed together and to the shirt sleeve at 6. The other end of the sleeve is sewed to the shirt in the ordinary wag. I t 7, 8, 9, and 10 and at 7', 8' 9' and 10 are shown a series of button holes in alignment lengthwise of the sleeve and spaced as shown. With-the cufi in the position shown in Figures 1 and 2, a cult link is passed through 10 and 9, and through 10' and 9'. It is to be noted that the holes 8, 9, are on the inner side of the cufi and hence not exposed to view. The total sleeve length may be further shortened by rolling the cuff along the sleeve 5; until the button hole 10 is on the lower inner'side of the end and opposite the button 4, as shown in Figure 4;. The button holes *7, 8, 9, and 10 are so spaced that-with 10 in the position shown, 7 and 9 are opposite each other, and the hole 8 just avoids. comin on to the front portion of the shirt. A on link is then passed through the holes 9 and 7. The button 4 is passed through the but ton hole 10, to keep the lowerportion of the cult against the sleeve and thus prevent fiapping of the cufi.

A narrow strip of material 12' is provided at one edge of the sleeve as shown in Figure 1. This piece of. material folds back and is out of sight.- The button 5 is sewed to this strip adjacent the button 4. When the shirt is worn in a position other than that shown in Figure 4, the button 4 is passed through the button hole 3, as in theordinary shirt. With the cufi in the position shown in Fi re 4, the button 5 is passed through the hole3 and the same button is further passed through the hole 10 which is nowopposite that button as 10 is opposite 4.

It may be seen from the drawings that the loop forming the cufi always presents the same outward appearance regardless of'the position to which the cufi has been adjusted, the adjustment being obtained by shifting the position of the cufl with respect to the sleeve.

In compliance with the requirements of the statutes, I have herein described a preferred embodiment of my invention. I do not however wish to be limited to the precise construction set forth, the same being shown for illustrative pu oses only.

What I claim as new aii desire to secure Letters Patent u on is:

1. An adjustab e shirt sleeve comprising a cult consisting of a. looped piece of material sewed tothe shirt sleeve, the loop being open along its lateral ed es, and means whereby the loop may be ad justably held so that it overlaps the sleeve on one side thereof for variable predetermined distances from the point where it is sewed to the sleeve.

2. An adjustable shirt sleevev comprising a cufi consisting of a looped piece of material 108 sewed to the shirt sleeve, the loop being open along its lateral ed es, means whereby the loop may be adjusta ly held so that it overlaps the sleeve on the outside thereof for variable predetermined distances from the no where? point Where it is sewed to the sleeve, and means for retaining the overlapping portion of the loop against the sleeve;

3. In combination, asleeve, a cufi' formed of a continuous piece of material folded upon itself and the opposite longitudinal edges sewed together and to the sleeve, a button hole formed on the outer part of the cuff, a plurality of button holes formed on the inner part ofthe cufi", said button holes being in alignment lengthwise of'the sleeve, whereby fastening means may be passed through the outer button hole and different ones of the inner button holes to shift the position of the cuff with respect to the sleeve.

4. In combination, a sleeve, a cuff formed of a continuous piece of material folded upon itself and the opposite longitudinal edges sewed together and to the sleeve, a button hole formed on the outer part of the cuff, a button hole formed on theinner part of the cuff, a button on the shirt sleeve, said button and said button holes being in alignment lengthwise of the sleeve and equal distances from the point where the sleeve and cuff are joined, whereby the cuff may be held in either of two positions at will, one of said positions being with the end extended and thetwo button holes opposite one another, and the other position being with the cuff shifted lengthwise of the sleeve so that the button and the first mentioned button hole are opposite one another, and an additional button hole on the cuff in alignment with the other two and spaced so that when the cuff isin the second mentioned position that button hole and the second mentioned button hole are opposite each other.

5. In a shirt, a sleeve having a tubular cuff at the end thereof permanently attached thereto, the lateral ends of the cuff being open so that the cuff-may be shifted len thwise of the sleeve, andmeans for hol ing thecuif in various shifted positions lengthwise of the sleeve on the outside thereof, the combined length of the sleeve and on is varied while the amount of cuff portion exposed is maintained constant.

6. In a shirt, a sleeve having a tubular end at the end thereof permanently attached thereto, the lateral ends of the end being open so that thecufi may be shifted lengthtWlSB of the sleeve, means for holding the end in various shifted positions len *hw-ise of the sleeve on the outside thereoi, whereby the combined length of the sleeve and end is varied while'the amonntof end portion ex posed is maintained constant, and -means whereby the ortion'of the and overlapping the sleeve is .eld against the sleeve,

"i, A soft end of a piece of material foided on itself to form a closed loop with its meeting longitadinai extremi ties sewed to a sleeve, three button means comprising three button holes formed in the cuff, two on one side of the loop of the cuff and one on the other, said button holes being in alignment lengthwise of the sleeve, so that fastening means may be passed through any two of the three button holes to hold the end in any of three positions with respect to the sleeve.

9. In a shirt, a sleeve having a looped cuff at the end thereof permanently attached thereto, said cuff being shiftable lengthwise of the sleeve, means for holding the cuff in various positions, said means comprising three button holes formed in the cuff, two on one side of the loop of the cuff and one on the other, said button holes bein in alignment lengthwise of the sleeve, so tat fastening means may be passed through any two of the three button holes to hold the cuff in any of three positions with respect to the sleeve, and means cooperating with one of said button holes when fastening means have been passed through the other two, for bolding the end of the cuff against the sleeve.

10, In a garment, a sleeve having at the end thereof a soft cuff consisting of a continuous piece of material folded upon itself and the opposite-longitudinal edges sewed to the sleeve, means for adjustably securing a point on the outer side of the folded material to either of two points on the inner side of the folded material, said three points being in alignment len hwise of the sleeve, one of the points on t e inner side being as far from the uncture of the sleeve and cufi as is the point on the outer side, and the other point on the inner side being a difier ent distance from the juncture of the cuff and sleeve thanare those two oints.

ii, In a garment, a sleeve avin at the end thereof a soft cud consisting o a con tinuous piece of material folded upon itself and the opposite longitudinal edges sewed to the sleeve, three button holes formed in the cuff adjacent one of the lateral edges of the cuff, two of said button holes being formed on one side of the fold, and the third being formed on the other side of the fold so that fastening means may be passed through the third button hole and either of the other two, three button holes formed in the cuffadjacent the other lateral edge of the cuff, said second mentioned three hatton ten holes bein spaced identicall with said first mentione three button ho es, so that the button holes that are secured to ether at one of the lateral edges of the cu may besecured to the button holes'that are secured together at the other lateral edge of the cuff, the lateral edges of the cuff being open adjacent the button holes, so that the same inner part of the opposite lateral edges of the cuff are in contact with one another when the opposite lateral ed es are secured together, regardless of which two button holes are used.-

12. In combination with a shirt sleeve, a soft cufi sewed thereto consisting of an inner and an outer portion slidable with respect to one another lengthwise of the sleeve secured together to form' a loop extending lengthwise of the sleeve, and means formed in the culf for holding the inner and outer portions in adjusted positions with respect to each other;

13. In combination with a shirt sleeve, a soft cufi consisting of a looped piece of material sewed to the sleeve along the longitudinal edge of the loop, a button-hole on the outside of the loop, two button-holes on the inside of the loop, said three button-holes being in lateral alignment and near the lateral edge of the loop, the lateral edges of the loop being open so that the outer portion of the loop may slide pver the inner portion whereby said first mentioned button-hole may be brought opposite either of the lastmentioned button-holes at will.

14. In combination with a shirt sleeve, a soft cufl consistin material sewed to t e sleeve along the longitudinal edge of the loop, the 100 being open along the lateral edges so that t e outer portion of the loop may slide over the inner portion on the outside of the sleeve, whereby the combined length of the cuff and sleeve is varied while the amount of cufi portion exposed is maintained constant, and three or more button-holes formed in the cufi in lateral alignment for holding the cuff in various positions lengthwise of the sleeve.
