'Referring to thefdrawings, the operative parts of the machine illustrated are mounted on a base piece 10 which is supported by a pedestal 11., For supporting the strips to be out there ,is provided a stri support tormedby a central portion or b ock 12 secured toithe base piecef10 and two end portions or blocks 13 and '14 which are slid ably mountedon the base 10so as to be movable toward and away from the central block 12. A strip cutting device is provided on the outer end of each of the blocks 13 and 14 as shown. Each such tout-ting device as. shownconsists of a pair of shears 25, the lower blade ofiwhich is fastened to the end 'o fthe block with its cutting'edge flush with the supporting surface. Instead ofhaving the shears arrangedto cut all the way across the leather strip, it is sometimes desirable to have them arranged as shown so that they do notout entirely across the strip but leave a smalluneut width offleather at the bottom, or longer, edge of the strip so that'extending tabs may be shaped at theends of the strips for overlapping when the strip is sewed into the hat.
Located within an opening in thecentral block'1j2, is a gear wheel mounted on a shaft 31 provided with a hand wheel 32. A toothed bar 33 connected to the block 13 by a link 34 extends over the gear wheel 30 with its teeth in engagement with the teeth of the wheel, and a similar toothed bar 35 connected to the block 14 by a link 36 ext-ends beneath the gear wheelwith its teeth meshingwith'the wheel teeth. When the handle 32 is turned in one direction, thegea'r wheel will 'act through the toothed rods 33 and '35 to move the blocks 13 and 14 outward-,there-' by. lengthening the support, and when the handleis turnedin the other direction. the

In the use of the device, the hand wheel is turned one way or the other as may be required to bring the pointer ll into position to indicate on the scale the size of hat for which the sweat leathcr is to be cut; the leather is laid fiat on the supporting surface of the support with the concave edge of the leather against the positioning shoulder of the support, and the cover plate is lowered to hold the leather firmly positioned. ,By means of the shears 25 the leather is then cut to the required size, the cover plate is lifted, and the cut leather is removed.
s It is usual to have the hat makers-name or some suitable design printed or embossed 7 on thesweat leathers before they are cut to various sizes, and it is desirable that such names or designs on theleathers shall be located centrally of the cut leathers or otherwise uniformly located on the cut leathers as to have a uniform location in theliats.
In addition to other advantages of having the machine made with two oppositely movable. end portions of the strip support, instead of having only a single movable portion at one end, this construction has the advantage that hat leathers to be cut of different lengths may all be placed on the support with the markings onthe leathers in the same position with relation to the lengtl'r of the support.
It is to be understood that the invention is not to be limited to the exact construction shown, but that it includes changes and modifications thereof within the claims.

A. strip cutting machine, comprising in combination means providing a supporting surface which is adjustable in length, a cutting device at each end of the supporting surface, means for holding the strip to be cut positioned on the supporting'surface, and indicating means for indicating the length to which the strip will be cut.
2. A strip cutting machine, comprising in combination a strip support including a part which is adj ustably movable relative to another part thereof for varying the length curvature of said shoulder for varying the length ofthe support, and a cutting device at each end of the support, Y

A strip cutting machine, comprising in combination a strip support comprising a central portion and two end portions which are adjustably movable for varying the length ofthe support, the central portion being cut away, a gear wheel mounted within the central portion,toothed bars extending from the end portions and engaging opposite sides of said gear, a handle for turning said gear whereby the end portion may be moved outward or inward to vary. the

A strip cuttlng machine,eomprising in combination a strip support havinga fiat supporting surface for supporting the strip to be cut and having a positioning shoulderv at one edge of the supporting surface which is curved in the plane of the supporting surface, said supportcomprisingtwo end portions which are adjustably movable y con.- centrically about the axis of curvature of said shoulder for varying the. length of said support, a gear wheel mounted between said portions of the support, atoothed bar linked] to each of said portions of the support, said;
bars extending in engagement with opposite sides of sald gear. means. for turning said gear to move said portions of the support outward or inward, a hinged cover adapted to be turned down on to the strip resting on the support to hold the strip in position, and a cutting device at each end of the support.

A strip cutting machine, comprising in combination a strip support curved to correspond to the shape of the strip to be cut and including an end portion which is adjustably movable in the direction of the curvature of the support for varying the length of the support, and a cutting device at each end of the support.
8. A- strip cutting machine, comprising a base having a bearing plate, a strip supcurved in the plane of the supporting surface, said support including an end portion which is adjustably movable concentrically about the axis of curvature of said shoulder for varyingthe length of the support, a
curved slot in said bearing plate, projections extending from said movable portion of the support into said slot to guide said portion in its movement, and a cutting device at each end of the support.
