This invention relates to ignition devices, and more particularly to" a cigar lighter adapted to be detachably connected to. a

Referring new to the drawings iriwhich like reference numerals denote corresponding partsthroughout the several views, the numeral 10 indicates 2i-- hollow standard or base adapted to rest upon a table or other support. The base 10 is provided at its bottom with a horizontal flange 11 having an aperture 12 for receiving a two-wire electric conductor cord 13, said cord 13 being connected at one end to a lamp socket plug 14 of any standard form.
The base 10 is formed at its top with a vertical tapered tubular section 15, said section being adapted to receive the body member to be hereinafter described. The section 15 near its bottom has an internal flange 16 which forms a seat for a vertical insulating strip 17 upon which are mounted the movable and stationary contacts of the operating switch to be described later.
In order to support the ignition plug on an axis slightly inclined from the horizontal and in a convenient position for the smoker, provision is made of a cup-shaped body member 18 supported upon the tubular section 15, said body member having a depending flared section 19. The strip 30 is held rigidly within the center of the body member 18 by a small angular metai bracket 31 joined as by soldering to the rear part of the screw shell 26. The inner end of the insulating strip 30 is seated within a conical depression 32 in the closed end of the body member 18.
As clearly shown in 2, the conductor cord 13 contains two insulated wires and 34, the wire being connected at 35 as by soldering to the contact strip 29, while the wire 34 is connected at 36 as by soldering to the lower parto'f a resilient movable contact 37 of the controlling switch. The lower end of the movable contact 37 is bent rearwardly and upwardly and then passed forwardly through an aperture 38 in the vertical insulating strip 17. The upper free end of the movable contact 37 is adapted to be constantly engaged by a push button 39, said button having on its rear side a flange 40 which serves to retain said push button in its aperture 41.
Located in alinement with the free upper end of the movable contact 37 is a U-shaped stationary metallic contact clip 42, said clip having its rear ends 42 passed through a pair of apertures in the vertical insulating strip 17 said ends 42 being bent parallel to said strip for holding the clip rigidly in position.
In order to electrically connect the stationary contact 42 with the screw shell 26, an insulated wire 48 is provided, said wire 43 having its terminals joined as by soldering to the clip 42 and shell 26, respectively.
The ignition plug 25 comprises an outer tube 44 of porcelain or other suitable insulating material, said tube 44 having a reduced tapering rear section 45 within which is mounted a metallic eyelet member 46, the ends of said eyelet member being headed over upon the base 47 and an interior shoulder 48, respectively, of said plug. The outer end of the tube 44 is enlarged to provide an interior seat 49 for an insulating disc 50 upon which the heating coil 51 of resistance wire is adapted to be wound. The disc 50 is provided on its top and bottom faces with a plurality of parallel guiding ribs 52 and 53, the outer ribs 52 being staggered with respect to the innerribs 53. The disc 50 is also provided with a pair of oppositely disposed apertures 54 and 55. By means of this construction, after the coil 51has been wound around said disc 50 in the grooves between the ribs 52 and 53, the extremities 56 and 57 of said coil may be passed through said apertures 54 and 55. The extremity 56 may then be clamped between'the eyelet member 46 and tube 44. The other extremity 57 of the coil 51 will then be passed through the aperture in the disc 50, and an opening 58 in the outer tube 44 and will be clamped securely against said outer tube 44 by a screw shell 59 which forms the outer contact of said plug.
'The top of the ignition plug is protected by a cover ring or cap 60, said cap serving to hold a perforateddisc 61 of mica or other durable heat resisting material, whereby the heating coil 51 will be prevented from contact with exterior objects. It will be understood that in use the heat radiated through the perforations of the disc 61 will be sufficient to ignite a cigar or cigarette.
l/Vhile there has been disclosed in this speclfication one form 111 which the invention may be embodied, it is to be understood that this form is shown for the purpose of illustration only, and that the invention is not to be limited to the specific disclosure but may be modified. and embodied in varistandard for supporting the base of a vertical insulating strip, a horizontal body member having a depending neck seated within the open top of said vertical standard, an ignition unit in said body member, said neck having slots to fit over and lock said insulating strip, a switch supported by said strip and connecting the ignition unit with a source of current, and means for operating said switch.
