I 1,664,130 PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES MACKENZIE RAE, OF MEDICINE HAT, ALBERTA, CANADA.
DISPLAY STAND.
Application filed November 16, 1927. Serial No. 283,680;
This invention relates to improvements in display stands and the like, and the objects of the invention are to provide a simple and eflicient stand of this character consisting of a number of trays adapted to display a maximum amount of goods while occupying 'a minimum amount of floor space.
Further objects are to provide a stand of this character in which the trays are adapted to accommodate different sizes of inerchandise and advantageously display them.
Still further objects are to provide a stand of this character of simplified construction with sloping individually adjustable trays which may be manufactured at acompara-- tively low cost.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists essentially of a plurality of trays or shelves adapted to be carried by a plurality of standards, with the provision of means for adjusting the trays in sloped or horizontal relation as desired, fully described in the present specification and illustrated. in the accompanying dr'awings which form part of the same, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective View of the improved stand, 1
Figure 2 is an end View partly in section,
Figure 3 is an end view of another form of display stand, using double trays,
Figure 4 is a. further form illustrating the use of shelving,
Figure 5 is an end elevation of a still further form of my invention, and I Figure 6 is a section on the line 6-6 of Figure 5 of the base used to support the structure shown in Fig. 5. a j y In the drawings A designates the device as a whole comprising rear and front standards 10 and 11 of any-desired form, here shown as angle irons, arranged in vertical and substantiallyvertical relation, respectively, the front standard 11 being sloped to accommodate different sizes of trays. The trays 12 are supported between the standards as desired, here shown secured in adjustable relationship thereto by means of a pivotal connection 13 with the rear standard members 10 and an adjustable connection by means of bolt members or the like 14 with the front standard members 11, said bolt members being adapted to extendthrough slots 15 in the end walls of the i trays and registering slots 16 in the front standard members to be adjustably secured .of merchandise which therein by means of the wing nuts 17. The
means of adjustment it will be understood,
however, maytake any desired form such as a plurality of orifices or the like in the a standard members. In the particular form of adjustment illustrated it will be noted that the slots in the tray and standards are horizontal and vertical, respectively, to allow for play in adjustment.
The standard members are preferably formed with casters, rollers, skids or the like 18 of well known construction in order to facilitate transfer when necessary, while the trays or shelves may be constructed according to requirements.
From this it will be seen that a complete display rack adapted for various articles will take up a very small space in a store and yet display a large quantity of goods to advantage is provided. The arrangement of trays in sloped relation to the stand and in graduated relation as to size, viz.formed with the largest at the bottom of the stand each decreasing in size towards the top, permits of a clear displa of all articles on the shelves, and provi es accommodation for articles of varioussizes.
The stand may take various forms under the interpretationof this invention. as will be readily understood with reference to Figure 3 wherein the form illustrated comprises a double stand with trays sloping in both directions similar to two single stands being placed back to back. The construction in this case is the same with the addition of any suitable bracing means, the brace members 19. This double display which may be placed-to advantagein thestore.
Figure 4 illustrates the use of shelves 20 for display purposes in which case a bracket member 21 may be secured to the shelves for the purpose of adjustment and connection with the standard members, while an edging 22 is provided to retain'the goods in position. This type of display stand with sloping trays or shelves of this character may be constructed, for instance, by placing the rear two supports of the stand at the back of the shelves or trays in place of the ends illustrated by and these may be fastened in any desirable permits of a v This type of stand may also be constructed as a double type of display stand as illustrated in Figure 3 two rear members being used to retain the trays, in place of the four rear standard members as illustrated in Figure 3, thus using only two rear supports in all and a stand embodying six standard members.
A further modified form of my invention is illustrated in Fig. 5, wherein the trays are supported on an all-metal frame having base structure 23 adapted to support the upright members of the stand. This of course, may be constructed of any suitable material and is shownas a display stand embodying four upright members 24 pivoted together in pairs at the top and riveted to the base of the stand. The trays are adjustably supported thereon by means of the tray sup- 28 which. is pivotally members.
ports 25 extending underneath the trays and provided with orifices 26 adapted to be engaged by the bolt 27 of the supporting arm secured to the upright The tray supports may be. directly secured to the trays or may be formed with means for retaining the trays thereon in detachable engagement.
As described, any desired type of tray may. be used to advantage made of any desired material and of various styles as to depth and size with partitions which may be removable and adjustable throughout.
As many changes could be made in the above construction and many apparently widely difierent embodiments of my invention,.within the scope of the claims, constructed without "departing from the spirit or scope thereof, it is intended that all matter contained in the accompanying specification and drawings shall be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.- Y
What I claim as my invention is 1. An improved display stand comprising a. plurality of standard members including front and rear standard members, a plurality of trays individually tiltably supported on the rear standard members andadjustably connected to the front standard members and means in connection with the trays and front standard members for retaining the trays in adjusted position.
2. An improved display stand comprising a plurality of standard members including front standard members formed with slots therein, a plurality of trays provided with slotted members pivotally secured to rear standard members and adapted for adjustable engagement with the front standard members, and clamping means in connection with said slots for retaining the trays in adjusted inclined position. i 3. An improved display stand comprising a plurality of standard members including front and rear standard members, a plurality of graduated trays and pivotally carried by the rear standards in-opposed relation, brace members between the rear standard members, and means. for adjustably securing the trays to the front standard members, whereby the trays may be individually adjusted.
4. An improved display stand comprising a plurality of standard members including front standard members formed with slots therein, a plurality of graduated trays formed with slotted ends, pivotally carried by rear. standard members, bolt members adapted "to extend through the slots in the trays and front standards for adjustably securing the trays to the front standard members, and rollers or the like adapted to carry-the standard members.
5. An improved display stand comprising in combination, a plurality of interconnected standard members having a plurality of trays mounted in pairs pivotally carried by the standard members in opposed relation, brace members between thestandard members, and means for individually tiltably adjusting the trays for display purposes and roller means associated with the standard members for transporting the stand.
In'witness whereof I have hereunto set myhand.
" JAMES MACKENZIE RAE.
