CURTAIN POLE.

The invention relates to a curtain pole, designed for use at windows, doors, or the like, and more especially 'to the class of adjustable curtain poles.

The primary object of the invention is the Y provision of a pole of this character, wherein the same in its makeup is capable of adjustment, to increase or decrease the length of the pole, thereby accommodating the same to varying sizes of doors or windows for s upporting curtains or draperies and the like, the pole in its make-upbeing of novel form to render the same neat and attractive in appearance; c Another object ofthe invention is the provision of a pole of this character, wherein the body thereof is in the form of a series of detachable sections, these when joined Vtogether will render the pole rigid to eliminate any possibility ofthe sagging of such pole or the warping of the same when in use and at the same time enabling such pole to be lengthened or shortened with dispatch and in a convenientmanner to adapt it to varying sizes of doors and windows or the like.

A further object of the invention is the provision of a pole of this character, wherein the sections thereof are detachablyjoined to each other in a novel manner, to permit the said pole to be increased or Vdecreased in length, with dispatch, the sections when joined together being designed to present a unitary structure of neat and attractive appearance. i

A still further 'object of the invention is the provision of a pole of this character, which is' comparatively simple in construction, light in weight, strong, durable, neat and attractive in appearance, readily and easily adjusted and inexpensive to manufacture.

With these and other objects in view, the invention consists of the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts,

as will be hereinafter more fully described,

illustrated in the accompanying drawing, disclosing the preferred embodiment of the invention, and pointed out in the claims hereunto appended.

The curtain pole comprises a series of sections 5, '6 and 7, tlievsections 6 and 7 being the terminal ones, while the sections 5 will be hereinafter referred to as the intermediate These sections 5, 6 and 7, respectively, are preferably made from wood and of circular contouryin cross section, and like size, although the same may be made from any other material and of'other shape if found The sections 5, each is formed in one end with a centrally located internally threaded socket 8, while at the other end is provided the centrally located extension 9. The wall of the socket 8 is threaded from its outer end to a ,point removed from its inner end whereby the inner portion of each wall is smooth, as at 9". The outer terminal portion of the extension 9 is not provided with threads. 4The said outerv terminal portion indicated v'at 9,iss1nooth and frictiona-lly engages with the smooth portion 9 of wall of the socket 8 to set up a frictional lock therebetween. The threads on the extension being identical to the threads of the socket 8, so that said sections 5 of any required num# ber can be detachably united to each other, by screwing the extension 9 into the compan ion socket 8 as is clearly illustrated in Figure 2. The construction provides for a frictional lock and a threaded lock between the eXtensions and socket walls, whereby if the threads become damaged or worn, the frictional lock will act to secure the sections together.

The terminal section 6 is formed with a socket 10, corresponding yto the socket 8 in each of the sections 5, so that said socket 10 can receive one of the thread extensions 9 of the outermost section 5 of the series, whereby the sections 6 will present a blunt end to the curtain pole. The section 7 is formed with a cent-ral extension 11 correspondingto the threaded extensions 9 of the sections 5 and this extension ll is adapted to be received in the socket 8 in the outermost section 5 of the series to present a blunt end to the curtain pole and in this manner the latter is giveny a inished appearance at both ends thereof.

'It is to `be understood, of course, that the sections 5 of the series, each may be ot' any desired length and oE any number, whereby the curtain pole can be increased or decreased in length, so as to accommodate the same for different sizes ot doors, Windows, or the like. The pole When made up ot the series of sections 5, 6 and 7 has the appearance o' a unitary structure and the same will be prevented from sagging or warping, as the screw 'extensions engaged in the socket When uniting the sections together materially reinforce the curtain pole, to render the same strong, durable and neat and attractive in appearance.

The curtains C are hung and draped in the usual manner upon the pole when supported in the brackets B upon the dooTl il as will be apparent in Figure l of the drawing.

In the use of the pole for a particular size of door, Window or the like, the user Will select the required number of sections 5, which are joined together in a manner as heretofore described and the terminal sections G and 7 are joined therewith, the selection ot the number of sections 5 enables the pole to have the required length correspondingly to the size of the door or Window.

In joining the sections 5 together and the terminal sections 6 and 7, the sections 9 and l1 are completely screwed into the sockets 8 and 10 so that the shouldered end portions of such sections will abut each other and in this manner a firm and unitary curtain pole is effected.
