ELECTRIC HEATER.
epp eetie ed. as t :12 r ei so were;
v r nv n o lat s eflele i he ers and; more particularly to heater that inf cludes a heating element and, a fan for blowing a current of air into engagement with the heating'elementi is i It isa purpose of our invention toI'provide new and improved, means for mounting a fan of standard construction inva heater of theabov'e mentioned character, that is simple :lIl construction and which does not interfere with the flO W Of air through the heater. As-is wellfknown it is necessary in order for a fan tooperat e efficiently that there be no obstacles either in front or in back of the blades'to interfere wit-h 'the flow fi ir r the d bawina t aii ww fl e blades during rotation thereof, and our new andiinproved mounting for the motor of the fanis such that the minimum of interference with the; flow of air results.
7 It is another purp ose of. our inventionto provide a heater of the above mentioned a character with a casing having a strengthen ing and air deflecting ring that alsoserves ho dthe h a n e ement in Pl E d Other objects and advantagesof the invention will appear as the description of the anying lr inssprecsed However, we desire to have it distinctly understood that we do not intend to limit ourselves to the exact details shown or described, but
that we intend to include as part 'of our invention all such obvious changes'and modifications of parts as would occur to a person vided with a base portion 11 and a handle 12. Screen members13 and 14 areinounted on opposite ends of the casing, the screenmember 14 being carried by aringdike memr 15 w i m st-.0 the. a in in any desired manner.
is provided with a saddle member having thelaterally extending wings 23 and a de e n a 2 b ea s o whi he ame may be mounted-on a suitable. support;
Inorder to properly support the fan Within the casing 10, means is: provided in the casing, for supporting. the motor by means of. the ear 241. Said means comprises a bracket 25 which is provided with the slightly curved base fia'ng esf26 and 27 said flanges conforming. substantially to the curva'turepf the; inner face of the casing 10 and the base flange 26 being longer thantlie base flange 27 to offset the upstanding portion 28. of the i bracket tram the central. vert a p iie bf. h h r;.as,, fl 1i hown 3Q This is doneso'thatthe upstand i ngportion 28j'has; the proper relation to the ear24 to'locate the motor mid fan" centrally 'in the casing so that the axis of rotation of the fan is on the axis of the casing. The upstanding flange portion 28 is provided with an opening 29 that aligns with an interfered with by the supporting member I 25. The upper end of the upst-andingflangeportlon 28 isprovided with a 'pair of projections 31 between which lies arecess 32' thatha's av bevelled wall portion 33. One of the wings 23 of the supporting bracket on the motor-.21 extends through the recess 32 and due to the oflset arrangement of the upstanding portion 28, the wing portion 23 extends at an oblique angle where thesame passes through the recess 32; For this reason lUu the Wall 33 is bevelled so as to conform to the shape of the wing 23 where the same 1s in engagement therewith. Furthermore, by
providing the projections 31 a firm support,
bracket member serves as means for se-- curing the free edges of the casing together. The casing is also provided with a strengthening ring 3 that has an inturned flange 35 serving as means for deflecting the air set in motion by the fan so as to prevent undesirable lateral spreading of the same and to concentrate the same into a Well defined stream. The Wire screen 13 is preferably also carried by sald flange. The ring 34:
' has an outturned flange 36 engaging the edge of the casing 10 and, is secured in place by V thebolts 37. The ring 34 is readily slipped in place and serves as a retaining ring for the spider 16 which is held in position between the screws 38 and said ring 34.
What we claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. Ina heater, a motor, a motor mounting comprising a bracket having a base portion and an upstanding portion offset from the vertical plane of the axis of the motor, an ear on said motor in the vertical plane of its axis and means for securing said ear to the upstanding portion of said bracket.
2. In a motor mounting, a frame, a motor,'
and means for mounting said motor on said 7 frame, comprising a bracket secured to said frame having an upstanding portion provided with a recess in the end thereof, a
bracket having Wings secured to said motor and having a depending ear,.and meansfor securing said'ear to said upstandingpor-r tion, one of said wings lying in'said recess.
3. In a motor mountingya casing, a'motor, and means for mountingsaid motor in said casing comprisinga bracket secured to said casing having an upstanding portion provided with a recess in the end thereof. a bracket having wings secured to said motor and having a depending ear, and means for securing said ear tojsaid upstanding portion,
one of said'wings lying in said recess and f the upstanding portion of said first bracket engaging the motor OHVOPPOSHZG sldes offsaid A. In a heater, a casing, a motor, ,and
means for mounting said motor in said casing, comprising a-bracket secured to said casing havingan" upstanding portion provided with a recess in the endthereofya bracket having'winfissecured to said motor' and having a depending ear, and means for a 1 securing said ear to said upstanding portion, one of said wings lying in said recess,'
said recess having a bevelled wall portion. 5. In a dQVlCG Of the character described, a casing, a motor, and means for mounting the motor in the casing, comprising a base portion fixed to the casing, an upstanding bracket on the base portion ofiset from the.
central vertical plane of the casing, the inotor being positioned with its axis in said plane and having a depending ear in said plane, and means the bracket. v
In testimony whereof we affix oursignature's.
for securing said ear to,
"SAMUEL M. ,CARMEAN. JAMES H. VOARMEAN.
