My invention relates to golf clubs.

It is the object of my invention to provide I a gold club having a head which is provided with a separate panel defined by marginal scorings or grooves in order to make it possible to bring the coloring of the head to the groove without discoloring the panel.

It is a further object of my invention to color the panel without discoloring the head;

It is a further object to provide a defined area, such as a panel, so that its exactlocation is'not within the judgment of the decorator but is definitely located by the construction of the club.

It is a further object to provide a panel which will attract the eye to the center of the club, which improves the usefulness of the club in striking the ball.

Referring to the drawings in detail, 1 designates theclub head, the upper-surface of which is coated with an enamel or other coatin; 2 with the exception of the panel portion 3 that is defined by a slot or groove 4: on either side thereof.

This panel may be either left in the natural finish or colored a diverse color from that of the general body of the club head. If desired, the grooves can be filled with some diverse color, such as white that will define the borders of the panel and prevent the observation of any portions of the color from either the panel or the club head where they have run into the groove. This makes a cheap method of providing a well defined panel with regular edges so that any irregularities of the stain or paint may be overcome.

It will be understood that I desire to comprehend within my invention such modifications as may be necessary to adapt it to varying conditions and uses.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claimas new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:

1. In a golf club head, the combination of a smooth surfaced panel with well defined edges on the surface of the head, the margins of said panel being formed by grooves in the surface of the head.

' 2. In combination in a golf club head of a body, a panel defined across the surface of 5 the body by marginal grooves, and a colored coating on the head outside of the panel-covering said body whereby the panel is left uncolored. v

3. In combination in a golf club head of a colored body, a diversely colored panel and grooves defining the borders of said panel adapted to receive a diverse color.

4. A new article of manufacture for use as a golf club head consisting of a head, its upper surface having spaced saw kerfs forming spaced grooves defining a panel therebetween, said grooves being parallel to one another and at right angles to the striking face of the club.

5. In a golf club head, the combination of a smooth surfaced panel with well defined edges on the surface of the head, the margins of the said panel being formed by grooves in the surface of the head, the head and panel being integral with one another and having the margins defined by saw kerfs in the head.
