THEFT ALARM.
Application filed February 8, 1926. Serial No. 88,900.
This invention relates to theft alarms, and the object thereof is'to provide a device of this character especially adapted for the protection of stores, lofts,- banks, and prifi vate homes, and is so constructed that an alarm may be given at any time, regardless of where the operator may be.
Another object is to so construct such an alarm that it is always prepared to be op- 1c erated upon, durin business hours by the lawful occupants o the premises, and during ni ht time'by the unlawful entrance of a burg am With the foregoing and other objects in View, which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter disclosed and claimed, it being understood that 2% the changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.

In. the embodiment illustrated, the theft alarm constituting this invention is shown in the shape of a mat upon the floor, and comprises member 1, composed of sheet metal, member 2 is composed of a plurality of ertorations in a springy insulating material, member 3 same as member 1, member 4.- is-a sheet of insulating material, member 5 is the same asmembers 1. and 3.
From. the above description it will be obvious that this theft alarm consists of live (5) main members, l-2-3-4.-- and 5, and that member 3 being directly connected by A to negative terminal oi? battery 16, member 5 connected by B to alarm box ill and switch 6 resting in rear of 12 of Figure 2,

' When premises are locked for the night, lock plunger 13 of Figure 2 entering in locking engagement with 12, forcing switch lever 6 to make contact with terminal 7 connected to member 1 by C which automatically transforms the apparatus into a night alarm as well as a day alarm. Any person placing his weight upon the apparatus when in this position will cause the parts I of member 3 covering the perforations of member 2 to sag downward, thereby touching member 1 and making contact. When door is unlocked, lock plunger 13 releasin spring switch lever 6 from terminal 7, and, when in this position, the lawful occu ant of the premises may walk upon the t eft alarm without causing an alarm.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the advantages or" the construction and the method of operation will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art in which this invention appertains, and while 1 have described the principle of the operation of the invention together with the device that It now consider to be the best embodiment thereof, I. desire to have it understood that the device shown is merely illustrative and that such changes may be made as within 5 the scope of the claimed invention.
