UNITED STATES HARLEY M. WATSON, OF OMAHA, NEBRASKA.
PLUG INSERTER'FOR- TIRE CASINGS.
Application led March 1'?,
This invention relates to a plug inserter for tire casings, and consists in the novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts illustrated in the accompanying drawings and more particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawings, which are for illustrative purposes only and are therefore not drawn to scale:
Figure l is a perspective view, illustrating the application of my invention.
Figure 2 is an elevation of the plug inserter per se and Figure 3 is a sectional view.
Referring to the drawings for a more particular description of my invention and in which drawings like parts are designated by like reference characters throughout the several views, A designates the tire casing and B the plug inserter.
Specifically, the plug inserter comprises a cylindrical wire or rod l provided at its outer end with a cross piece 2, serving as a handle in manipulating the device and formed at its lower end with a tapering cone-shaped point A spreader, in the form of a hollow sleeve, is formed at its inner end with an interior thread 5 for screw threaded engagement with the lower threaded end 6 of the rod or wire 1. The outer end of the spreader is formed with a central longitudinal slot 7 to facilitate engagement with the stem 8 oi the plug 9.
In practice, the inner pointed end of the rod or wire l is inserted through the puncture in the tire casing, from the outside and threaded into the spreader, and after this operation is accomplished, the spreader holding the, plug, is pulled through the puncture 192?. serial No. 176,043.
in the tire casing until the head'of the plug lits snugly against the inner wall of the casing. The speader is then separated trom the stem of the plug and the patch is completed.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent7 is:
l. A device of the character specified com- "prising a rod or wire formed at one end with a handle and at its opposite end with a tapering point, and a spreader in the form oi a hollow tube or sleeve adapted for screw threaded engagement with the pointed end of said rod or wire.
2. A device of the character specified comprising a rod or wire formed at one end with a cross handle and at its opposite end with a threaded tapering end and a spreader in the form of a hollow tube or sleeve having an interior thread at one end designed for screwthreaded engagement with the threaded end of the rod or wire and its opposite end slotted.V Y i 3. A device of the character specilied, comprising a cylindrical rod or wire formed at one end with a cross piece serving as a handle and at its opposite end with a threaded tapering pointand a spreader in the form of a hollow substantially cylindrical tube or sleeve having an interior ythread at one end to engage the threaded end of the rod or wire and its opposite end longitudinally slotted and adapted to encompass the stem of a tire plug.
In testimony whereof he afi'ixes his signature.
