HATCH-BOOK HOLDER.
. Application filed June 5,
the lower end of the match strips. with a wire staple securing the match strips between the two parts'of the cover or body and placed near the lower edge, an ignition strip being applied to the overlapped portion of the back. The present invention relates to match book holders of this general type and it has for its object to reduce the cost of manufacture considerably and at the same time to provide a holder of such a character as to permit the ready removal of an-exhausted match book and the replacement of a fresh match book, while holding the match book securely in place. In the improved construction advantage is taken of the usual provision of the staple which secures the match strips to the back to enable such frictional engagement between the match book and the holder to be secured as will effectively prevent the accidental displacement of the match book from the holder while permitting its ready removal. when required.
The invention will be more fully explained hereinafter with reference to the accompanying drawing in which it is illustrated and in which indicated by. the-broken line 66 of Fig Figure l is a view in elevation showing a match book applied to an open holder.
Fi re 2 is a similar view of a holder close upon amatch book.
. Figure 3 is a View in section on the plane indicated by the broken line 3-3 of Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a view similar to Figure 1, but with the match book removed from the holder.
b Figure 5 is a view similar to Figure 1 at holder.
Figure .6 is a view in section on 'the plane ure 5.
Figure 7 is a view in elevation of a closed holder.
Figure 8 is a view. of the integral blank with a slightly modified form of the 192s. Serial No. 113,850.
from which the holder shown in Figures 5, 6 and 7 is formed.
The blank for the form of holder shown in Figures 1-4 is the same as that shown in Figure 8 for the holders shown in Figures 5, 6 and 7, except that'in the blank represented in Figures 1-4 the upper end flap is somewhat shorter and has. no tab, being adapted to be engaged under the ignition strip of the match book, and that it has no bottom flap. The improved holder may be formed 0 any suitable material, a good quality of cardboard, of a distinctive and artistic coloration, being preferred. It comprises a body a, a lateral flap 6, which is preferably of a width substantially equal to that of the body a, an opposite lateral flap c, preferabl narrow, and a top or upper flap d, whic is preferably creased or scored, as indicated at al and d, to facilitate the closing of the top' or upper flap upon the match book, as shown in Figures 2 and 3. The lateral flap b is secured at its edge portion upon the lateral flap 0, as b a suitable adhesive, forming between the ody a and the flaps b, 0,
a pocket for the reception of the back e to which the match strips f are secured by a wire staple g which passes through the back 6 and its overlapped extension 0 and through the interposed bases f of the match strips f. The exposed face of the flap e receives, as at e*, the ignition material, forming theignition strip.
In order that a suflicient frictional enga ement between the match book and the hol er may be secured, to prevent accidental dis- 6 therefore stand at opposite sides of the sta le g between the back of the match book an the match strips where they are held' tightly together by the staple. Thereby is secured such frictional en agement between the match book and the ho der that accidental displacement of the match book from the holder is prevented, while it is easy to withdraw an exhausted match book when desired.
The construction shown in Figures'5-8 is the same as that already described with reference-to Figures 1-4, exce t that the top or upper flap d is formed with a tab (2 for interlocking in the slit h of a bottom flap h which is extended from the body a and is turned upward and lapped over the match book. The construction shown in Figures 1-4 serves all practical purposes and costs somewhat less in material.
