RECEPTACLE.
Application filed April 14, 1924;
The invention relates to receptacles and more particularly to the sell-closing type and has for an object improved apparatus for closing a door of the receptacle. Other objects of the invention reside in the novel features of construction and combinations and arrangements ct parts as more tally hereinafter set forth.
in the drawings:
Figure l is a side elevation, partly broken away, of a receptacle embodying my invention;
lFigur 2 is a bottom plan view ot the receptacle top; I
Figure 3 is a side elevation, partly broken away, of a modified construction of receptacle;
Figure l is a bottom plan view of the top thereof.
1 is the body or the receptacle and 2 the top having upwardly and inwardly inclined sides. 8 and l are inwardly opening doors hinged at their upper edges at 5 and 6 re spectively to the top and serving to close openings in opposite sides thereoi. These doors are limited in their outward movements by flanges 7 and 8 which respectively overlie the doors when in closed position.
9 and 10 are gravitating links or arms which are preferably pivotally connected at their outer ends to the doors 8 and 4: respectively near the lower edges of the latter, and
i1 is a wall depending from the top 2 midway between the doors and forming a coinnion abutment tor the inner ends of the links. The length of each link is such that its inner end is located sutliciently above its outor end with the door in closed position that when the door is swung inwardly, the inner end of the link may ride upwardly over the wall.
As shown in F igure 2, the inner end of each link is provided with a pair of rolls 12 mounted thereon and on opposite sides thereof, these rolls being enga-oeable with the wall 11. These rolls are preterably guided by means of a depending channel bar 13, the base'of which forms part of the wall 11, and the sides of which are at the QlltlsO'if the rolls, these sides preferably terminating in interned flanges la engageable with the Serial No. 706,557.
portions of the rolls opposite the base of the channel. The bases of the two channels are secured at their upper ends to the top 2 by suitable means such as the angle bars 15.
As shown in the modified construction of receptacle in Figures 3 and e, the doors for closing the openings in the opposite sides of the receptacle are normally closed by the links or arms is which operate in the same manner as the links shown in Figures l and 2. These links arms, however, are arranged in pairs and have between their inner ends the rolls 1? which are engagcable with the wall 18 depending from the top. For holding the rolls irom disengagement from the wall 18, l have provided the strap 19 having a base portion 20 preferably secured to the lower end of the wall 18, side portions 21 extending parallel to the wall 18 and on the opposite sides of the rolls 17 and the top portion which is secured to the top of the receptacle. This strip is located between the links and as a consequence prevents lateral displacement thereof.
From the above description it will be readily seen that I have provided a receptacle oi} the self-closing type in which the door for closing an opening thereof is moved to closed position by a very simple mechanism; and that the thrust for movin the door to closed position increases as the door approaches closed position. It will also be seen that the mechanism for closing one door operates independently of the mechanism for closing another door.
What I claim as my invention is:
1. The combination of a receptacle having an opening, an inwardly opening door serving to close said opening, an abutment within said receptacle, and a gravitating link for closing said door, said link having one end connected with said door and the other 2. The combination of a receptacle having a top and an opening, an inwardly opening door pivotedupon said receptacle and serving to close said opening, a link pivotally connected with said door for closing the same, and a member depending ironi said top and provided Willi means for retaining closed, a channel within said receptacle and the free end of said link in engagement openiugtowiurd said.cloor,ll1essides ol. said 10 therewith. channel terminating in iz'il'urlled IlzM'igeFa, 11nd 3. The combination of a receptacle having an enlargement npori the free end of said 5 an opening, an inwardly opening (leer pivlink engagenlile in said elmmiel :m-l guided oted upon said i'eeepl'uele and serving to thereby. close said opening, a link pivotally connected in lzwlimony where-oi l. willie my si -nature. to suiddoor and serving LU urge said door HAIKJ'LI) Li .llilly.
