GUANO DISTRIBUTOR.

My invention relates to guano distributors and more especially to guano distributors in which the bottom of the hopper for holding the guano is adapted to be oscillated and centrifugal force applied to the guano to more perfectly distribute the same.
Another object of my invention is to provide a guano distributor in which the bottom of the hopperisentirely separated from the N hopper and the degree of separation is capable of being adjusted, together with means for imparting an oscillatory motion to the hopper bottom. I

Another object of my invention is to provide an oscillatory bottom for hoppers in guano distributors in which oscillation is imparted thereto by knocker means associated with one of the ground wheels of the distributor.

A brief description of the drawings having been given, a detailed description of the same will now follow in which like reference parts characters indicate corresponding throughout the drawings.
Thenumerals 10 and 11 indicate the side members of a substantially V-shaped frame,
which has draftmeans'lQ located between' the forward ends of the said side members,
and rearwardly of the draft means the downwardly pro ecting brackets 13 and 1 1 are secured to the inner sidesof the side members, and in the lower ends of the said brackets is mounted the ground wheel 15,
the said ground wheel having cogs 16 projecting at regularintervals from one side thereof. I
Secured to the forward portions of said side members are the handle members 17 and 18 which are supported on the rear ends of the side members by the upright members 19 and 20. Plow carrying arms 21 and 22 are secured to the rear portions of the members'lO and 11 and these carry the plows 23.
Pivotally secured to the plow carrying arms are the wheel carrying assemblies 24: and 25 to which are rotatably'secured'the wheels 26 and 27.
A guid'eway 28 is secured between the handle members in which the lever 29 is adapted to be adjusted by means of the ad-' ju-sting mechanism 30 and is held in elevated position by the projection 31 in the guideway, the said lever 29 being forked and the lower endsof the forksbeingu'igidly secured in the wheel carrying assembliesfid and25.-.
A hopper 35 is rigidly secured to the frame between the handle members 17 and 18 and is also secured to the side members 10 and 11 by means'of the iron members 36 and 37', the
said 1nembers36 and 37 being secured to the side members by the bolts 38 and 39, and on these same bolts is secured the supporting member which serves to support the oscillatory bottom member 50, as will presently appear. Securedto the member 40 by means of bolts 41 and 42is the circular hollow cam member 43 which has three inturned cams 4a thereon which slope downwardly around the member 13 and support the circular member 15 by means of projectioi'is 4L6 extending outwardly from the member and resting on the cams Projections 47 extend outwardly fromthe member 15 and lit j ust below the lower surface of the'cams 14. Two of the projections 46 have extensions 1G thereon, on which the ends of the forked adjusting lever 18 i'itloosely. The member d5 has a hole in its upper central portion which is adapted to receive the bolt 49 for loosely and rotatably seuring the oscillatory bottom member 50 to the member 45, the said bottom member 50 having projectionsv 51 on its upper surface which are adapted to stir the guano in the hopper 35 before the same is distributed.
Rearwardly from the bottom member 50 and associated parts is the arcuate adjusting member 55 which is secured to the cross-piece 56 which extends from one of the side members to the other. This arcuate member 55 has an arcuate slot .57 therein in which the adjusting means 58 for the lever 48 is adapted to fit while in adjusted position. The adjusting means 58 is adapted to be secured at any desired point along the slot 57 by means of a set screw 59, and a notch ,60 is located in the upper surface of the means 58 in which the lever 4-8 is adapted to rest while in adjusted position. By placing the lever 48 and adjusting means .in the position shown in Figures 1 to 5 the oscillatory bottom member is adjusted at its lowest position and when the lever is swung in the opposite direction as indicated by the arrow (31 in FigureQ the projections 16 will travel up the inclined cams 1d, and the bottom member 50 will be raised towards the loweropen end of the hopper 35.
Rigidlysecured to the lower side of the oscillatory bottom member 50 is the member secured to the hopper i 7 62 which has an. eye member 63 in which the rod 6-1 is adapted to be hooked. This member 62 has a projection 65 which extends beyond the periphery of the bottom 50 and is adapted to press against the lever (36 vwhen the said lever is pulled rearwardly at its upper end. This lever 66 is pivoted as at 67 and is adjusted byset screw means 69 secured to the upper end of the lever and penetrating a slot 69 in the member 52which is .The rod 64 extends forwardly and is con- 72, the arm 72 being pivot-ed on the bolt 32 to the member 74 which is secured to the sidemember .10 by the bolts 74;? which fit into the holes 74' in the member 74 and pass through the side member 10. The pivoted arm72 has an adjustable lug'73 secured to the lower end of the same by means of the bolt 33 penetrating the elongated vertical slot-34c, which permits the lug'pto be adjusted .vertically. This lug engages the cogs 16 onthe wheel 15, and by elongated slot in the member the cooperation of the coiled spring '76 and the rod 64 imparts oscillatory motion to the member 50.
The member 7 5 is adj ustably secured to the side member 10 by the bolt 75 fitting in an "5, and in the forward end of the member 75 is secured the coiled spring 76, the other end of the coded tension spring, being secured in the eye 72 in the pivoted arm 72. This tension spring normally pulls the pivoted arm rearwardly and causes the lug 78 to engage the Cops 16 on the wheel 15. p
Encireling the bottom member 50 and as sociated parts is the shield member 80 which is secured to the side members 10 and 11, and has a notch 81 therein through which the rod 64L passes.
The method of operation of my guano (hstributor is as follows:
The lever 48 is placed at the opposite end of the slot as shown in the drawings and thus the bottom member 50 is adjusted at its closestposition to the lower end of the hopper 35,. and the hopper is filled with bottom member 50, and thus the rod. is pushed forwardly against the pullof, the
coiled tension spring 76, and the arm 72 is swung forwardly and the lug 73 is brought to a position where it will not engageany one ofthe cogs 1G, and thus arranged the oscillating means will not operate and with the lever 29 in the position shown in Figure 1 the device may be transported from place to place without distributing any guano.

the lever 66 as when it is entirely placed out of the path of the projection 65 it will have a full swing until the lug 73 touches the next cog, but when the lever is so adjusted as not to permit the lug 73 to be pulled entirely back against the next cog, then the projection 65 will strike the lower end of the lever 66 and impart a jar to the bottom member 50 and also to the hopper, said arring also serving to keep the guano fed well down into the bottom of the hopper at all times, rendering a stirring device unnecessary.
Having thus described a preferred embodiment of my invention, I desire it to be understood that although specific terms are employed, they are used in a generic and descriptive sense, and not for purpose of limitation, the scope of the invention being set forth in the appended claims.
I claim:
1. In a guanodistributor and the like, a hopper secured on the framework of the distributor and having a vertically adjustable and oscillatory bottom member.
2. In a guano distributor, a hopper having an open lower end, an oscillatory bottom member securedbelow the said open end and being capable of vertical adjustment with relation to the said hopper.
3. In a guano distributor, a hopper having. an oscillatory and vertically adjustable bottom member.
4. In a distributor for guano and other substances, a hopper having an open lower a hopper vertically a hopper vertically adjusting means comprising a cam member having a' plurality of cams, projections resting on the cams and supporting the bottom member, an adjusting lever connected to the projections, and means for holding the lever in ad justed position.
7. In a guano distributor, a hopper, an
oscillatory plate mounted beneath the bottom of the hopper and forming the bottom member of the hopper, said oscillatory plate 7 i being spaced from the hopper, and means for imparting oscillatory movement to the plate.
8. In a guano distributor, a hopper, the lower end of the hopper being open, a support mounted below the hopper, a cam member mounted on the support, a movable member mounted on the cam member, and a plate loosely mounted on the movable memher, and means for imparting oscillatory motion to the plate.
