CECIL c. PAaRIsH, or DONQ RA, riaNNsYLvANIA, ASSIGNOR or FORTY-NINE- ONE- HUNDREDTHS 'ro JOHN J. roLKaBLA oF noNoaA, PENNSYLVANIA.
, HANGER CLAMP.
Application filed .l'une 21, 1926. Serial No. 117,586.
- This invention relates to hanger clamps for securing pipes, conduits and the like in operative position to steel beams, sills or the like, and its primary object to provide a clamp that can. be expeditiously applied to a pipe or other similar object to be supported and is so shaped to prevent the same from being casually removed or to fall therefrom.
A further object of the invention is to provide a clamp that can be quickly and securely fixed to steel work of a building and the like and is adapted to receive a single hold-er for a. pipe cable or the like or a number of holders arranged in superposed relation for receiving a like number of pipes, cables, conduits or the like.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing my invention in detail, ref erence will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughoutthe several views, and in which:
Figure 1 is a front view showing the ap plication of a pipe to the device.
Figure 2 is a side view showing the application of the device to a beam.
Figure 3 is a rear view of the device per se.
Figure 4 is a side elevation showing a pair of holding means associated for accommodating a like number of pipes, etc.
Referring to the drawings in detail the reference numeral 1 indicates the clamp por tion of the device and which includes a substantially U-shaped body having a projection 2 rising at an inclination'from the top thereof and which 'is formed with a threaded opening extending through the top to accommodate a headed screw bolt 3 which is disposed at an inclination by the arrangement of the opening to secure the clamp portion to a beam in the manner as shown in Figure 2. v
The clamp portion is also provided with a slot 4 centrally extending tln'ough its bottom wall and terminating adjacent its central portion its rear wall as bestshown,
in Figure 1 and thisslot is adapted for the insertion of the head ,5 of a shank 6 of the hanger 7. The head 5 is substantially elongated so as to be arranged parallel with the clamp and be received by the arms 8 formed by the slot 4- as suggested in Figure 3 of the drawings.
The hanger 7 is provided with a projection 9 slightly extending upwardly from adjacent one side edge thereof and from which rises the shank 6. The body of the hanger is of arcuate shape in formation and is distorted laterally to arrange the side edges of its upper and lower walls out of alignment, and the body is formed with a slot 10 arranged transversely thereof whereby the hanger can be associated with a pipe or the like as clearly shown in Figure 1 of the drawings. By disposing the hanger in the manner as above set forth, the edges.
of the slot are upwardly inclined so that the diagonally disposed portions 11 thereof provide stops to prevent the casual removal of a pipe or the like from thehanger after the same has been associated therewith as shown in Figure 1, and the hanger can be swung. forwardly and rearwardly in a vertical plane with respect to the clamp 1 without fear of the pipe and the like falling therefrom, or the hanger can be shifted approximately ninety degrees laterally without-disengaging the object held therehy..
Oppositely disposed from the projection 9 is a similar projection 12 which may accommodato a headed screw bolt 13 passing through a threaded opening therein and hanger respectively when it is desired to hang a single object such as a pipe as shown in Figure 1, or a threaded stud 14 may be arranged in the projection and hanger to receive a second hanger superposed with respect to the first hanger in the manner as shown in Figure 4. Any number ofhangers may be supported in this manner, with the result that a plurality of objects may be likewise supported in the same manner as a single object.
From theabove description and disclosure of the drawings, it willbe apparent that the hanger can be associated with a pipe or the like and thence arranged in the clamp 1. which may be secured to the base of a steel beam as shown in Figure 2 or other similar supporting means.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrrairgement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall Within the scope of the appended clai-in.
hat I claim is:
A hanger clamp of the character described comprising a clamping means adapted to be secured to a support, a holder detachably associated with said clamping means, a body included in said holder and being distortedlaterally to arrange ltS side edges of its upper and lower walls out of alignment with respect to each other said body being slotted with theedges of the Walls of the slot upwardly inclined to provide diagonally disposed portions adapted CECIL- c, PARRISH.
