BOTTLE OPENER.
Application filed .Tune 30, 1927. Serial No. 202,570.
Our invention relates to bottle openers and has for its object to provide a new and etficient bottle opener for use in opening botties of soda water, beer and other beverages sealed by the cap method of sealing bott'les.
A further object is to provide a bottle opener which will catch all caps after they have been removed from the bottles thus preventing the falling of the caps upon the floor of the store and onewhich will catch all excess liquid which may be forced from the bottles when they are being opened due to an over amount of carbonation.
These objects we accomplish with the device illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which similar numerals and letters of reference indicate like parts throughout the several views and as described in the specification forming a part of this applica tion and pointed out in the appended claim.
In the drawings in which we have shown the best and most preferred manner of buil.ding our invention Figure 1 is a front elevation thereof. Figure 2 is a side view of the same. Figure 3 is a section of the top of the device on line- 33 of Figures 4 and 5. Figure 4 is a section on line H of Figure 1. Figure 5 is a section on line 55 of Figure 4:. Figure 6 is a side elevation of the bottle removing portion of our device.
In the drawings we have shown the top of the bottle remover as a semi-cylindrical portion A and the bottom of cap container portion as B. The said portion A has a back side 1 formed thereon to which the cap container portion B is secured when the device is assembled for use. We cut an elongated oval hole 2 in the front face of the portion A, and then provide a closure door plate 3. to partially close said opening and the said plate 3 is hingedly held in place by the hinge pin 4, which pin is secured to the portion A. by rivets or solder. A spring 5 is secured on the'front side of the portion A, having one end normally in contact with the back side of the said plate 3, and the other end secured by the bolt 6 to the back side of the front of the portion A. The spring presses normally against the back side of the said closure plate 3 holding the closure plate 3 in normal contact with said portion A and ures 5 and 6 so that the main body 8 is semicylindrical in cross section as is the entire device, with flanges 9 on the sides thereof by which the device is secured to the back 1 by either solder, welding or by rivets. The removing portion 10 ot the member 7 is bent at an angle to the said body 8, such angle being less than ninety degrees so that the portion 10 slope-s downwardly and frontvardly until it comes into contact with the inner face of the portion A, where it is secured by any suitable means such as solder, welding or rivets. An opening is cut in the portion 10 to allow a portion of the top of the cap to pass thereinto, and the front side 11' of said opening is the engaging portion of. the device which catches under the edge of the caps and when they are moved upwardly the cap is removed. Catch hinges 12 are provided on the side 01 the portion A and the portion B to engage them together when in use and a catch 14 is provided to hold the said portion B under the top of the portion A.
The operation of our device is as follows The remover is secured to the counter or any other suitable position and the neck and cap end of the bottle is introduced into the opening 2, pressing the cover plate 3 backwardly opening the hole, the front and under edge of the bottle cap is then engaged over the removing side 11 of the portion 7 and the bottle is given an upward movement forcing the cap from the bottle. The cap when removed falls down into the container portion B and may be disposed of at will of the seller.
Having thus described ourinvention we desire to secure by Letters Patent and claim In a bottle cap remover the combination of a semi-cylindrical body portion, having an opening in the front side thereof and having the back side thereof extended therebelow; acontainer portion secured to said extended back side of said body portion; means to secure said container to said body portion; a bottle cap remover secured within said body portion back of the opening therein adapted to remove the caps from bottles when they have been placed with the neck and cap through the opening in the front of said body portion; and means to normally close by spring pressure the opening in said body portion.
