GAS-QTOVE ATTACEN'I.
Application filed March 19, 1927. Serial No. 1%,743.
The resent invention relates to improvements in gas stoves and has reference more particularly to an attachment for normally locking the gas cocks in a closed position so that gas will not be permitted to escape through any of the burners of the gas stove when said burners are not ignited.
Another important object of the invention is to provide an attachment for gas burners which is cooperatively associated with the manually actuated, thereby permitting any gas cocks and the pilot light control valve whereby said locking means will be automatically released front engagement with the gas cocks when the pilot control valve is or all of the gas cocks to be actuated simultaneously spreading the fiamelfrom the pilot light to each of the burners so as to light any or. all of the burners through which the gas may be delivered.
- Another important object of the invention is to provide a gas stove attachment of the above mentioned character, which is of such construction as to permit the same to be as readily and easily installed without necessiattachment of the above mentione tating any material alterations of the parts of the gas stove with which the attachment is associated.
A further object is to provide a as stove character'which is simple in construction, strong and durable, and further well adapted for the purposes for which it is designed.
()ther objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent during the course of the following detailed description.
In the accompanying drawings, formin a part of this application, and in which 11 e reference characters designate like parts throughout the views:
Figure 1 is a top plan view ofthe attachment embodying my invention showing the same installed on a gas stove.
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken a proximately on the line 2-2 of Figure l, coking in the direction of the arrows, for more clearly disclosin the connectin means between the pilot light control vsfive and the locking rod. 1
Figure 3 is a sectional view, taken approximately on the line 3 3 of Figure 1, looking in the direction of the arrows, and
Figure 4 is a detail perspective view of a portion of the lockin rod.
. In the drawings, w erein for the purpose oi illustration is shown the preferred embodiment of my inventicn, the numeral 1 designates the gas supply pipe which is supported at their-out of the gas stove by the supporting brackets 2 in the usual manner. Extending rea'rwardly from the supply pi 1 beneath the top 3 of the gas stove is t .e torch pipe or tube 4, the inner end of which is disposed upwardly as at 5 and provides a means for delivering gas to the pilot light designated generally by the numeral 6. As the construction of the pilot light forms no important part of the present invention, is detailed description thereof is thought unnecessary.
This pilot light extends through a suitable opening 7 provided therefor in the top 3 of the gas stove and is formed with the as ducts or discharge openings 8, the same eing disposed radially for-projecting a flame to each of the burners 9 invthe manner well known in the art.
A pilot light cnntrol valve 10 of the conventional construction is associated with the forward end of the pipe or tube 4 and this valve includes a button shaped head 11* mounted on the up er end of the vertically movable stem 12 w ereby the same may be manually depressed for admitting a, supply of gas frpm the main supply pipe 1 to the pilot light 6 in the manner also well known in the art.-
' In the present instance, I have illustrated four burners, although it is to'be understood that the attachment embodying my invention can befequally well used with more or less burners. Gas is supplied-to the respec tive burners b means of the pipes iii-which extend from t e main supply plpe l and as -sociated with each of these pipes 13 is the rotatable gas cock 14. The actuating han-= dle of each gas cock is designated b thenw meral 15 and extending lateitdly mm the upper portion of the valve 16 of the gas cock is a pm 17, the purpose of which will be hereinafter more fully described.
My attachment com rises an elongated rod 18 which is- 'ourna ed at its respective ends in the outermost supporting bracket 2 provided for the supply pipe 1. Extending rearwardly from the rod 18 and integrally associated therewith are the latches 19, the same being adapted for cooperation with the respective laterally extending ins 17, carried by the rotatable valves of t e respective gas cocks in the manner as clearly shown in Figures 1 and 4 of the drawingsv A nose 1 J ll 20 is formed on the outer end of each of these latch. members and normally the pin 1'? engages the shoulder formed at the juncture of the nose with the body portion of the latch for locking the rotatable valve 16 of the gas cock 141 in a closed position.
The attachment further includes the pro vision of s pair oi? parallel spacedarms 21 which extend rearwardly from the intermediate portion oi the shaft or rod 18 and are rigidly associated therewith. The outer ends of these arms are slotted as indicated at 22. These arms are disposed on opposite sides of the pilot light control valve 10 and the control button 11 of the pilot light control valve is operatively connected to the arms 21 and the rod 18 in a manner to be now more fully described. A cap isprovided on the vertically movable stem 12 and this cap member is designated by the numeral 23. Depending sfrom the sides of the cap member at diametrically opposite points are the fingers 2d, the construction of which is more clearly disclosed in Figure 2. A pin extends through the lower end of each finger and is operable Within the respective slots 22 formed in the arms 21 whereby a pin and slot connection is provided between the inner ends of the arms and the lower ends of the downwardly extending lingers.
Normally the parts are arranged as shown in the drawings and the several gas cocks are maintained in a closed position.
When any one of the gas burners 9 is to be ignited, the cap member 2 3 which is dis posed on top of the depressible head ll of the pilot control valve is pushed downwardly, the pilot light valve will be open to admit a supply of gas trom'thc main supply pipe to the pilotlight 6 and this additional supply of gas will eject a flame from the pilot light to each or the burners and simultaneously with the downward movement of ,the cap member 23, the shaft 18 will be rotated, due to the pin and slot connection bea 18 is rotated so as to move in, a downward direction, the several latches 19 will move out of engagement with the laterally extend ing pins 17', thus permitting the rotary valves 16 of the respective gas cocks to be actuated whereby to turn on the gas and permit a supply oi gas to be delivered to the burners. Any one or all of the gas coclis may be opened when the shaft 18 is moved in the manner above described.
As soon as the pressure is taken as of the cap member 23, the resilient means associated with the pilot light control valve will an tomaticslly return the parts to their initial teen the fingers and arms. s fhen the shaft the cocks being accidentally turned on and causing gas to escape throfigh the burners without being ignited.
The simplicity of my improved attachment enables the same to be readily and easily installed on a gas stove without necessitating any material alterations of the stove parts with which the attachment is to be associated, and furthermore, the device will, at all times, be positive and ellicicnt in carrying out the purposes for which it is desi ed.
While I have shown the preferred em odiment of my invention, it is to be understood that various changes in the size, shape and arrangement of parts may be resorted to, without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim as new is:
1. In combination with a gas stove including the usual rotatable gas cocks and the pilot light control valve, of a rod journaled for rotation adjacent the gas cocks, a pin projecting laterally from the rotatable valve of each gas cock, a series of latches carried by the rod and normally engaging the respective pins for locking the rotatable valves of the gas cocks in a closed position, and
means operatively connecting the rod with the pilot light control valve whereby said rod may be actuated to disengage the latches from the respective pins when the pilot light control valve is actuated to permit said gas cocks to be turned on, said aforementioned means comprising a cap member carried by the depressible member of the pilot light control valve, a. finger extending downwardly from said cap member, an arm extending laterally from said rod and operatively connected at its rear end to the lower end of said finger.
2. In combination with a gas stove includthe usual rotatable gas cock, and the deprcssible pilot control valve, of a rod journaled for rotation adjacent the gas cock, a pin projecting lat/erallyfrom the rotatable valve of the gas cock," a latch carried by the rod and normally engaging the pin for locking the rotatable valve of the gas cook in a closed position, and a link and lover connection between thedeprcssible pilot control valve and said rod for disengaging the latch from engagement with the pin when the pilot light control valve is depressed.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
