LAMP.
The present invention relates to 1amps particularly such as are employed for illuminating the roadway in front of automobiles and the like; and its object is, generally, to provide such a lamp improved in various respects hereinafter appearing; and more particularly, to provide such a lamp having reflectors so disposed and adjusted as to focus at different points the light emitted from the lamp; and further, to provide such a lamp wherein reflectors having a maximumy of reflecting surface may be combined with a minimum of cross-sectional area of a lamp structure. These and any other objects hereinafter appearing are attained by, and the invention finds preferable embodiment in, the lamp structure hereinafter particularly described in the bod of this specification and illustrated by t ie accompanying drawing, showing in vertical longitudinal section a lamp structure adapted to be mounted on an automobile, or the like, as on the forward portion of the fender thereof. A suitable cylindrical casing 1, which is desirably provided with a forwardly-extending hood portion 2, contains a light-emitting element, as the filament 4 of an electric lamp of usual form having a glass bulb 3 (containing said lightemitting filament) and al plug portion 5 seated in a socket member 25 which is slidably adjustable in a bearing 6 extending through the rear end of the casing. )Vithin this easing is the concave reflector 7 adapted to reflect light forwardly from the lamp and to a focus 8. This reflector has a rearward opening 9 into which the lamp extends, the light-emitting filament- 4 being located adjacent the vertical plane of said opening 9. A second concave reflector 10 is positioned in the casing and behind the reflector 7, and is adapted to reflect light from the lamp4 forwardly through the opening 9 and to a focus 11 spaced forwardly from the focus 8 ofNreflector 7 the filament 4 and these two foci being in alignment.
It will be seen that by this arrangement and disposition of the parts the dark spot created by the focusing ofthe light at 8 from reflector 7 is obviated by the rays of light from reflector 10 which focus at a different point 11, so that the field in front of the lamp is illuminated throughout the range of' the light emitted therefrom.
Furthermore: A casing of small crosssectional arca may `be employed inmy structure in connection with a large reflecting surface. inasmuch as the combination of the two reflectors 7 and 10 (although each is of small diameter) causes the light from the lamp to be completely reflected and focussed forwardly; also that, inasmuch asin the usual form of electric light bulbs (such as is illustrated in the drawing) the lightemitting filament 4 is located so far forward from the rear of the bulb, that such a bulb cannot be employed in a reflector completely reflecting the light therefrom, unless such reflector be of so large diameter as to permit the light to be reflected from its rear part which is adjacent the shank portion of such a bulb and far behind its light-emitting element 4. Thus an ordinary electric bulb may be employed in connection with my twoL reflectors 7 and 10, which may be of comparatively small diameter and will nevertheless completely reflect the light from the amp.

ot' the reflectors by suitable means, as by the screw 12 threaded in the cap 13 (removably secured as by screws 14 to the rear end of the casing), this screw 12 being journalled at 15 in a lug carried by the outer end of the plug portion 5 of the electric lamp.

In a structure of the character described, a cylindrical casing having a rear end with a' bearing therethrough; an electric lamp of the casing; a screw threaded in the cap 10 and engaging the lamps plug ortion for moving and holding the lamp a justably in the line of the axes of the reiectors.
