Application filed February This-invention relates to? greenhouse structures and has particular reference to a combined: support? forthe gl'ass'or transparent I panels: and at condensation drain gutter for r rec'eiving'and; carrying which: collects on the under faces of the'g-lass or transparent panels. 1 o 1 @ne of: the: principal a-ndoutstanding ob- V jectsfof the? present invention isnto provide 1" a combined: support andzgutter which-in additiion: to adding: to the ri-gi'dness of the support of the transparent panels; of the greenhouse, affords" drain gutters for the condensation-,avhich guttersare of all metal constructi'on and-capable of being painted or otherwise coated to. prevent rusting and to eliminate contact: or rotting of any of the.
wooden elements of the structure.
Other obj'ects reside. in the simplicity of construction, the economy with which the same may be produced and erected, and the to dispose the ends oftheir flanges an approgeneral efiicienc'y derived therefrom.
Vith the above recited and other objects in view, reference is bad; to the following specification and accompanying drawings in which there is exhibited one example or embodiment of the invention which is in no way intended as a limitation uponthe scope of theappended claims as it is to be clearly understood that variations and modifications which properly fall within the scope of said claims may be resorted to when found expedient. 5-
In the drawings r Figure 1 is a fragmentary vertical sectional view through a combined panel support and condensation drain gutter constructed 'n accordance with the invention;
Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view approximately on the line 22-of Fig. 1. Referring to the drawings by characters of reference, desi nates thefoundation wall, which may be of cement, br-ick,vor any other suitableconstruction, and upon which a suitable sill 11 is mounted. The rafters 12 are carried by the sill and are connected thereto by brackets 13. The glass or other transparent panels 14; are supported by the combined supporting frame and condensation drain gutter elements constituting the present invention, certain of whichelem'ents I are in turn supported by the rafters 12 and the remainder of which are disposed between the rafters. These elements or members in clude substantially U-shaped bars 15, preferoff the condensation a greenhouse including 7, 19272 Serial No. 166,508;
ably of. metal, and an angle bar 16 also pref: erably of metal andgwithinthere-entrant 'angle of which the. big-ht '17 of the bar 15 is: seated, suitable fastening means, such as a-6 screw 18, being provided, which passes throughthe medial portion of the bight and threade dly'anchioredin the apexof the angle bar. Fillerelements. 19,,preferably in theenature of' wooden bars, are mounted within the channel formed, by the 'U-shapedbars: '15- and. are 's'ecuredQ-therein oyf-astening eleo ments, such as screws 20; The filler el'ements project above the upper open enda'of the U-shaped bars 15. and have their opposite. sidesrabbetted as at 21, to afford a seat for the reception of the side edges of. the panels, 14. Putty 22 and glazing tacks23 are used" in the ordinary manner for attaching and weather-sealing the-panels to the filler elements.
The angle bars 16 are of a sufficient size priate distance beyond the bights 17 of the U-shaped bars, to form condensation drain gutters 24 between said ends and the shaped bars. In view of thefact that-the panels 14 are of arcuate shape, the concaved under side of the panels causes the condensation to follow the under surface until it reaches'the points of connection with the supports, where it' will gravitate into the drain gutters 24, from whence it will be conv veyed on to the $111 11 and thence along the inner side of the foundation wall 10. The
combined supports and gutters which are supported by the rafters 12 have interposed therebetween, substantially M-shaped capping strips 25 which are mounted on the rafters and suitable clamping elements 26 embrace the angle bars. 7
Fromthe foregoing it will thus be seen that by combining the angle bars and U-o shaped bars in the manner described and illustrated, an extremely strong and rigid support for the glass or transparent panels has been devised which elements combine to define efiicient drain gutters for the condensation.
What is claimed is:
1; A combined transparent panel support and condensation drain gutter forf green- 'houses, comprising frame membersrespectively consisting of a metal U-shaped bar,
a wooden bar within the channel faces thereno of to which the transparent panels are attached, and an angle iron within the reentrantangle of which the bight of the U-shaped bar is seated to define between said U-shaped bar and the angle bar, condensation drain gutters. a
2. In a greenhouse structure, a combined transparent panel support and condensation drain gutter including a V-shaped bar and a u haped bar having its bight seated with in the V-shaped bar, the said V-shaped bar having the ends of its divergent flanges protruding laterally beyond the U -shaped bar to define together with said U-shaped bar, condensation drain gutters on opposite sides thereo'l. i r
3. In a greenhouse structure, a combined transparent panel support and condensation drain gutter including a V-shaped bar and a U-shaped bar having its bight seated within the V-shaped bar,vthe said V-shaped bar having the ends of its divergent flanges protrading laterally beyond the U'shaped bar to define together with said U-shaped bar, condensation drain gutters on opposite sides thereof, the U-shaped bar having a tiller strip within the upper channel portion there of to which the transparent panels of the greenhouse are attached.
4. In a greenhouse structurc a combined transparent panel support and condensation d 'ain gutter including a V-shaped bar and a U-shaped bar having its bight seated within the V-shaped bar, the said V-shaped bar having the ends of its divergent flanges protrud- In a greenhouse structure having curved rafters, consisting of a fiat metal bar arranged edgewise with respect to the glazing inediinn, a V-shaped bar supported by the ra'lters,a U-shaped bar having its bight seated in the re-entrant angle of the V-sha'ped bar, and a filler strip in each U-shaped bar to which the transparent panels arerconnected,
the U-shaped A laterally protruding extremities :of the flanges of the V-shaped bar, condensation drain troughs on opposite sides thereof.
b. In a bar defining together with the greenhouse structure, a glazed] medium support comprising an element sub stantlally U-shaped in crosssection for receiving a. retaining means for the glazed medium, and a member underl ing the same having upwardly divergent anges within which the hight of the U-shaped elementis seated, the tree upper ends of the flanges extending beyond the U-shaped member and combined with the bightto define together therewith, condensation drain gutters on opposite sides thereof.
