UNITED STATES ERNEST ALBERT GEORGE, OF CHELSEA, ENGLAND.
CI AR TTE CASE.
Application filed December 8, 1926, Serial No. 153,431, and in Great Britain January 11, 1926.
This invention relates to cigarette cases of the kind which the contents are distributed in single'layersone in each half of the case and are adapted to be tilted in relation to the case so that any individual cigarette of a layer can be easily removed.
The object of the present invention is to provide a simple form of case each half oi which contains a holder hinged at one extreme edge about a pivot pin located sufiiciently from the adjacent edge of the case to enable a thumb piece tobe fitted whereby by depression the whole of the holder can be tilted upwards. j These improved holders can be permanently or removably secured in thecase in any suitable or known way. In the accompanying drawings Fig. 1 is a. perspective view of a cigarettecase fitted with two supports according to the invention, Fig. 2 being a view of one of the supports removed and Fig. 3 a plan of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a fragmentary view of the support showing another form of securing means.
As here illustrated, a sheet of metal is bent to form substantially semi-cylindrical seatings 1 extending from a member 2 that is made to receive a wire 3 about which it can move hingewise. e is a metal bar hinged at 5 to the support adjacent one of the seatings and having an inturned end 6 adapted to be sprung into and out of engagement with the support with a snap action. As will be understood, in lieu of the bar at a wiredoubled to form a loop at the end and hingepivots at the other may be employed, the loop being adapted to be sprung into and out of engagement with a stud upon the support, which is a type of retainer frequently adopted in ar i ticles such'as slides for thehair.
In Figs. 1, 2 and 3 the wire 3 is shownas bent to provide two 1imbs 7, 8 which can be sprung 1nto position beneath the edges of a cigarette case in a similar manner to that employed in securing other forms of support.
In Fig. 4c the wire 3 is bent to provide looped ends 9 which replace the limbs 7 ,8
of F ig.'2 but may be equivalently sprung into position. v
By means of a holder according to the invention not only can cigarettes be placed in position easily and without fear of damage but each is'held, independently of others, in its proper place,
It is preferred that the support for one compartment of the cigarette case may be movable about an edge that is parallel to but opposite the edge carrying the support in the other compartment, such an arrangement enabling the two supports to be tilted, by means of thumb pieces 10 convenient to the right and left hand respectively.
v What I claim is I 1. In a cigarette case of the kind herein referred to, a support for a single layers of cigarettes a hinge at one extreme edge about winch the support is movable and a thumb piece beyond such hinge, depression of whichv tilts the whole of the's'upport inan upward direction about its hinge, substantially as de- 23rd day of November 1926.
