C. H. GUNN SHOE LACE Filed Jan- 24 1927 INVENTOR. By CH GDDJJW @QQAW ATTORNEY Patented New. 31%, My
anon anon.
Application filed January at, 1927. Serial No. 163,228.
This invention relates to improvements in shoe laces, the object of the invention being to produce an elastic lace which Wlll when inserted in the shoe allow the instep of the shoe to conform to the instep of the wearer automatically, and thus prevent binding and cramping of the instep 1n the shoe. Where cotton or leather shoe strings are used the binding efiect thereof over the instep very to on causes considerable ain and many times causes the instep to e seriously calloused'and otherwise mjured. By the use of my self-conforming shoe lace, however, this callousing will not be encountered and it the shoe will fit the wearer in an easy and comfortable way without any binding.
A. further object of the invention is to produce a simple and inexpensive device and yet one which will be exceedingly efl'ective so for the purpose for which it is designed.
The objects I accomplish by .means of such structure and relative arrangement of parts as will fully appear by a perusal of the following specification and claim.
In the drawings similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several views:
Fig. l is a View of the complete shoe string partly broken out at one point in order to show the preferred internal construction.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Referring now more particularly to the characters of reference on the drawings, the numeral 1 denotes generally the shoe lace having the usual tips 2. The lace l is made up reterably of an outer extensible casing 3 o? cotton or like woven fabric. ithin independent thereof.
this outer casing are disposed two or more elastic rubber elements 4: preferably square in cross section and each being individually covered with an extensible casing 5 also made up of cotton or like woven fabric.
The lace constructed in the manner de scribed (provides a very stron and durable lace, an yet one having the a vantages and utility set forth in the preamble of this specification, since the action of the elastic lace when inserted in the eyelets of the shoe so will be such as tocause the upper of the shoe across the instep to be self-conforming to the foot of the wearer, as will be obvious.
From the foregoing description it will be readily seen that'I have roduced such a device as substantially in fills the objects of the invention as set forth herein.
While this specification sets forth in detail the present and preferred construction of the device, still in practice such deviaac tions from such detail may be resorted to as do not form a departure from the spirit of the invention, as defined by the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and useful and desire tosecure by Letters Patent is: 1
A shoe lace comprising a plurality of longitudinal elastic elements independent of each other, extensible casings about the elements, said casings being independent of each other, and a common extensible casin surroundin and enclosing said first name casings an the elements therein, and being to in testimony whereof l afix my signature.
