UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
manna n. HALLnrYT, or can PABX, ILLINOIS. GARBAGE mciivnnaron.
riginal application ld September 30,
Myinvention relates to new and useful im-y garbage incinerators, designed especiall for drying and incineratinog gar bage, re use and the like, and the main object of my invention is to provide an incinerator device which will embody certain desired features of simplicity, eiciency and convenience, and which will be economical in manufacture and durable in use. The subject matter of my present application comprisesv adivisioii o my application for Letters Patent of the United States, filed September 30, 1925, Serial No. 59,496, in which the claims were directed to an 1,5 electric incinerator.
Other objects will appear hereinafter, The invention consists in the combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention will be best .understood by reference to the accompanying drawings,
provements in forming a part of -this specification, and in which, .i
Fig. 1 is an elevational view of. my in- 2'5 cinerator;
Fig. 2 is an inverted horizontal sectional view thereof, taken on the line 2-2 of Fi 1 lg`ig.3 is a vertical sectional view through the incinerator;
Fig. 4 is a horizontal sectional view taken on the 1ine4--4of F;1 1g3;. I
Fig. 5 is an enlarge detail view o f a side opening or port for igniting the driednia-v terial within the incinerator;
- Figa 6 is a vertical view taken on the line 6-6 of Fig. 5; and,
Fig. 7 is an enlarged detail view of the lower part ofthe receptacle, this view showing in particularthe heating chamber ex- --tending upwardly -intol the body ofthe receptacle.
With more particular reference to the accompanying drawings, whereinfor the purose of illustration I have shown the preerred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 1() designates an outer casing, substantiallycylindrical vin form, and having sup orting legs 11 and' a bottom- 12 with per orations 13 fastened to -its'lower end.
14 designates an inner container or receptacle characterized by having an inner upwardly. extending conical portion 15 desi ed to Vproduce `a heating chamber 15` ogn conical. form which extends u wardly into the body, of the receptacle V om its .10 for receiving a plu conductor 25 for providing the electric cur- .slired, or it may preferabl vided in the, casing 1925, Serial No. 59,496. Divided and this application led July' 3, 1926. seriaino. 120,556.
bottom end; The inner container or recepta-y cle 14 is removablyy mounted in the casing as by means of a bracket member 16, which rises from the bottom 12. Openings or perforations 17 are preferably provided around the receptacle 14 and similar perforations 18 are rovided in the conical portion 15; while t e lower part of the receptacle is preferably retained unperforated to prevent the liquids of the contents from flowing onto the bottom 12. .According to a feature of my invention, the'receptacle 14 is preferably made ina plurality of parts or compartments 12 so that either one or 'more may be filled according to the amount of material to be incinerated therein at a time and these compartments may be retained separable or may be fastened together, so asI to be removable from the casing either individually or together, as desired.
A. spacing' member 19 with guiding means 19 is provided at the upper end of the receptacle and handles 20 are alsoprovided for' withdrawing the receptacle om the casing. A cover or lid-21 is placed upon the top of the casin land this cover or lid is preferably provi ed with perforations 21.
Any suitable means for heating the device or drying the garbage thereinv contained may vlbe employed, that herein disclosed comprising electric means, preferably in the form of .coils 22 mounted on brackets' 16v and extending upwardly in conical form within the cone-shaped part 15 of the receptacle; and socket means 23 is provided onlthe container 24 on an electric rent `to the incinerator.
By bageplaced in the compartments of the receptacle israpidly and fully. dried, and the electric current may be continued sufficiently long to entirely desiccate the contents to a small "dry residue which may be emptied therefrom and vused as a fertilizer, if debe ignited with a match or in any desirable manner.
For the purpose of igniting desiccatedresidue or remnants in thev compartments, I vprovide atvpoints opposite the heating c amber 15" 12, each ofsaid portsl extendin from its compartment outward to an opening 27 proand a turnable cover 28 is provided on the tering with means of this construction, the gar-v a port o n each chamber y p casing for either registhe opening 27,V of the .casing and 'y the port 26, or for closing the opening 27, as best indicated in Fig. l.
In the above mentioned application, Serial No'. 59,496, of which the present application is a division, claims were made for a garbage incinerator, which claims included the electric heating means illustrated and described herein, and hence the omission of such claims from this application isnot to be considered as an abandonment of the subject matter.
While'I have illustrated and described the preferred forni of construction for carrying my invention into effect, this is capable of variation and modification Without departing from' the spirit of the invention. l, therefore, do not Wish to be limited to the precise details of construction set forth, but
esire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come Within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described my invention, what l claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
l. A device of the class described comprising a casing having a perforated bottom and open top a receptacle composed of a plurality of compartments, removably mounted in said casing and arranged with a heating chamber extending upwardly into its body from its lower end; means for imparting heat to said receptacle and arranged in said heating chamber; registerable openings in the side of said casing andreceptacle at points opposite' said upwardly extending heatino chamber; and a perforated cover `for saida receptacle and casing, substantially as described.
2. A device of the class described comprising a casing provided with radially disposed, normally closed openings; a receptacle mounted therein` composed of a plurality of compartments; the bottoms of said compartments jointly comprising a heating chamber extending upwardly into the body of the. receptacle g' openings in said compartments registering with sald radially disposed openings in sald casing; andheating means extending into said heating chamber.
3. An incinerator comprising a casing provided with radially disposed, normally closed openings, a receptacle supported in the casing, partitions in said casing defining a plu rality of compartments to receive material to be incinerated, each of said compartments being provided With an outlet opening coinciding with ene of the openings in said casing, and an annular flange surrounding each of the openings of said compartments.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to thisl specification.
