Application filed June 19, 1923, Serial No. 646,381, and in Cuba April 21, 1923. Renewed August 27, 1927.
This invention relates to card-board pack ages in general and particularly to the pack-- agesv for cigarettes and other articles, and
its object is to provide a card-board package of new construction and which at the same time is more economical than those at present in use for the reason that they are made of w a single blank of cardboard, for which it is necessary only half the material and labor which is required for those at present'in use,
and resulting also more easy and practical,
to be handled than the same.
Another object of the invention is to pro vide a new card-board package which can be made and filled with cigarettes and other articles, by the use of propermachinery, such as it is made with the paper packages at present in use.
The invention is described with reference to the figures of the annexed drawing, in which:
Fig. 1 is a top plan view of a card-board blank used for making this package.

In Fig. 1 of the drawings it is represented a card-board blank out y I die or by any other means and divided in the following parts: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, and 19 separated by folds indicated by dotted lines, and of which, parts5 and 6 form flaps which are separated from parts 2 and 3 by curved cuts 20 and parts8 and 9 are flaps of trapezoidal shape, part 7 having preferably an inward cut 21 at itsfree end. Parts '15, 16, 18 and 19 are of less width than parts 12 and 13 and these are separated from; the adjacent arts 15 and 16 by curved cuts 22 which form in parts 12 and 13 a projecting end flap 23, and parts 18 and 19 are flaps of trapezoidal shape.
To form the packagewith the described blank, it is proceeded as follows :-Parts 2,
in Fig. -4, one on 3and1() are raised on, part 1 until becoming perpendicular toi'the same. In the same manner are thenifolded part 11 on part 10 and are then folded downwards parts 12 and 13 on part 11, so that the descending parts 12 and 13 remain outside of parts 2 and 3 and whenthey' are in contact with each other,
then they are united by means of glue or in any other manner thus remaining, as shown portion of parts 2 and 3 pro ect1ng beyond t 1e curved cut 22 of parts 12 and 13. Then are bent downwards parts '15 and 16 on part 14 until being perpenare united by means of glue or in any other manner (Fig. 5).
In this manner it is formed a package with two opposite lids, one constituted by parts 14, 15, 16, 17 18 and 19 and the other one integrated by parts 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9, which lids are partially covered to each other as shown in Fig. 6.
The particularity of these opposite lids of the package is that the leading line thereof on which they have a pivotal motion is always farther inside than the respective corner of the package or the flush of the contents 24 of same, whether these contents be cigarettes as represented in the drawings or any other similar article, so that upon unfolding both lids outwards as shown in Fig. 4, it may be possible to get easily the cigarettes or any other content 24 for taking out the same without the. parts of the package being an obstruction for this operation.
If it is desired, the package can be inclosed in a card-board case 25 similar to the well known in the art, for better security in the closure of the lids.
' In Fig. 7 is shown a modified form of package in which there is a single lid united to part 1 and which is composed of three parts 4, 7 and 7 bent on right angle one upon the other, which lid upon gyrating on the union line of part 4 with part 1, does it so that the end part 7 may come to be partially superposed to the upper part 11, parts 14, 15, 16, 17, 18 and 19 being omitted here.
It should be understood that the number of parts of the package and its form can be modified, without altering the spirit of the invention, which is as pointed out in the apl pended claim.
i What I claim is r A package for cigarettes and other goods [comprising a single cardboard blank ,havln each end thereof formed by two parts folde one on the other and united together, and
.two opposite lids each of which includes I side, end and top portions rigidly connected one to the other'thereby forminga whole V ,v pivotally connected to a corresponding side l of the package, one of the lids being separated from the outer part of each end of the package by a curved cut and the other lid be ing separated from the inner part of each end of the package by a curved cut, both curved cuts being extended be 0nd pivotal connecting lines of the lids an converging in a point spaced from the edge, said lids being capable of respectively engaging each other to insure a complete closure of the package, and the outer lid being of less width than the inner lid and having a border in longitudinal alignment with the convergence point of the said two cuts.
