PATENT OFFICE.
7 JAMES ERNEST REID, or ivrooansrown, NEW JERSEY.
ILLUMINATEDGHARTHOLDING CABINET FOR OCULISTS.
Application filed July 15, 1925. Serial No. 43,732.
The principal object of the present invention is two-fold and it is, first, to provide good illumination of the chart without shadows, and second, to furnish an attractive, handsome and sightly piece of oflice furniture.
Another object of the invention is to provide the necessary distance between the source of light and the chart for good illumination While at the same time making the cabinet comparatively shallow.
Other objects of the invention will appear from the following description. However, it may be said that generally stated, the invention includes an open faced cabinet mounted upon a stand and having at its back wall a chart and at its front a pair of marginally hinged outwardly swinging doors, each door being provided midway of its width with a hooded reflector light adapted to enter the cabinet when the doors are closed and to come out of the cabinet when the doors are open and to shine upon and illuminate the chart.
The invention also comprises the improvements to be presently described and finally claimed.
In the following description reference will be made to the accompanying drawings forming part hereof and in which Figure 1 is a front View of an illuminated chart holding cabinet embodying features of the invention and showing the doors in open position.
Fig. 2 is a top or plan view partly in section, and
Fig. 8 is a view similar to Fig. 1 showing the doors in closed position.
In the drawings 1 is a cabinet open at the face as at 2. The cabinet is mounted upon a stand 3, and at the back of the cabinet there is a chart 4 such as oculists employ. 5 are marginally hinged outwardly swinging doors arranged at the front of the cabinet and adapted to cover and uncover the opening 2 at the face thereof. Each door 5 is provided substantially midway of its width with a hooded reflector light. 6 adapted to enter the cabinet when the doors areclosed and to come out of the cabinet when the doors are open into position for shining upon and illuminating the chart 4. As
shown an appropriate chart 4 is introduced at the back of the cabinet by means of a detachable panel 7, Fig. 2. By the described arrangement the illumination of the chart is free from shadow and the necessary distance for good illumination is provided between the chart and the lights 6 when the doors are open and when the doors are shut the lights are enclosed in the cabinet making an attractive piece of furniture. The cabinet includesside walls which with the back and doors at the front provide interior space.
It will be obvious to those skilled in the art to which the invention relates that modifications may be made in details of construction and arrangement and in matters of mere form without departing from the spirit of the invention which is not limited as to those matters or otherwise than as the prior art and the appended claims may require.
I claim:
1. An illuminated chart holding cabinet for oculists, comprising an open faced cabinet mounted upon a stand and having at its back Wall a chart and at its front a pair of marginally hinged doors and having side walls providing interior space, each door being provided midway of its width with a .hooded reflector light adapted to enter and project into the interior space provided in the cabinet when the doors are closedand to come out of the interior space provided in the cabinet when the doors are open into position for shining upon and illuminating the chart.
2. An illuminated chart holding cabinet for oculists comprising an open faced cabinet mounted upon a stand and having at its back wall a chart and at its front a pair of marginally hinged doors and having side walls providing with the front and back interior space, each door being provided midway of its width with a hooded reflector light adapted to enter and project into the interior space provided in. the cabinet when the doors are closed and to come out of the interior space provided in the cabinet when the doors are open into position for shining upon and illuminating the chart, and said cabinet provided at its back with a detachable panel for the introduction of charts.
