This invention relates to inl tirovements in Wall coverings formed of suitable plastic material. such as cement and adapted to be applied to the walls of buildings and for use either as inside or outside cover s,
The invention has for its salient obj act to provide a simple. inexpensive and n-actical wall covering in the form of slabs or boar-cs which can be easily and securely fixed to the frame or other structure on which they are to be mounted.
Another object of the invention is to provide a board or slab of composition material so constructed that the edges thereof will be securely interlocked with adjacent boards or slabs thereby preventing separation thereof and also warping or separation trom the structure on which the boards 0'.- slabs are mounted.
Another object of the invention is to pro vides cover of the character described constructed and arranged that the joints between adjacent units will be securely held together and the material of each unit will not crack or open up.
Further objects oi the invention. will appeartrom the following specification taltcn in connection with the drawings. which form a part of this application, and in which Fig. 1 is a sectional elevation sliiowing a plurality of boards or slabs constructed in accordance with the invention mounted on a frame structure;

The invention briefly described consists of forming wall covering units. such as slabs or boards of suitable plastic composition or cement reinforced throughout the lena'th and width thereof with metallic reinforcingmaterial. such as wire screen or expanded metal. The edges of the slabs or boards are formed in such a manner that they will interlock and will overlap so that the securing means will pass through the interlocked and also through the reinforcing material in both of the slabs. Further details of the invention. will appear from the following description.

material of a plastic. nature such cement, sand, ground cork, ground cinder-s, asbestos or like material and of such a nature that the slab or unit will be to a certain extent flexible.
Each unit. furthermore, has embedded therein and extending throughout the length and width thereot a sheet 11 of reinforcing material, such as wire screen or expanded metal. The edges of each unit are so formed that the unit will interlock with the adjacent unitand in Fig. 1, the edge 12 otthe unit 10 is undercut as shownat B. tapered or inclined as shown at 1 1 and again cut away at an as shown at 15. Thus a projecting red portion 18 is termed at each edge of rue slab or board, the tapered projecting portion 18 at one edge being disposed adjacent one surface of the slab of the portion 18 and the other edp ie being disposed adjacent the other surface of the slab.

In fitting); the slabs and securing them to a beam or supporting structure 20. the edcje of oneunit'is fitted into the edge of the adjacent unit so that the projecting portions 18 of the two units overlap and the securing means, such as nails or screws 21 are then passed through the overlapping portions and also pass through the reinforcing members in the adjacent units and overlapping edges. In this way it is practically impossible for the adjacent units to pull apart and the nails or screws firmly and fixedly secure the slabs or units to the supporting structure.
The adjacent units may, if desired, be secured together in slightly spaced relation to leave a narrow space 23 therebetween. This space is filled with grout or other suit-- able plastic material of such a nature that any expansion or contract-ion of the adjacent units will be taken care 01": thereby.
The outer surfaces of the units may be finished in any desired manner and may, if desired, be provided with recesses 25 causing the slabs to have the appearance of brick work.
It will be evident from the showing in Figs. 1 and 2 that the disposition of the pro jecting portion 18 of one slab within the undercut portion 13 of the adjacent slab and, furthermore, the juxtaposition of the remaining portions of the adjacent edges or the tWo slabs Will effectively interlock the edges and counteract any tendency of. the slabs to pull away from each other or the supporting structure. Furthermore, the fill- 7 rangement of the various cooperating'parts may be madewithout departing from the spirit or scope of the invention, as expressed in the. following claims.
What Iclaim is:
1. The cornbination with a Wall supporting structure of a covering therefor, consisting of a plurality of slabs,'each slab having its edge portions overlapping the edge portionsof adjacent slabs and having amet'allic reinforcing member therein eX- tending to the edge'of the overlapping portions, and securing means extending through the overlapping edges and-through the re inforcing members in the overlapping edge portions and into said supporting structure.
2. The combination with a Wall supporting structureof a covering therefor, consisting of a plurality of slabs, each slab having its e'dge portions tapered and overlapping the edge portions of adjacent slabs and having a ,metallic reinforcing member ing of slabs formed of cement-like material, each having tapered, undercut edge portionsv and each having embedded therein ametallic reinforcing member extend ng dlagonally throughout the length and Width thereof and to the extreme edges thereof into the undercut portions.

The combination, with a Wall support ing structure of a covering therefor, consisting of a plurality of slabs, each slabbeing formed of cement-like material and having its edge portions overlapping the edge por- V tiouscfadjacent slabs and having a metal- 11c reinforcing member therein extend ng to the edge of the overlapping portions,- and securing means extending through theoverlapping edges and through the reinforcing members in the overlapping edge portions and into said supporting structure.
5. The combination Witha Wall supporting structure of a covering therefor,'comprising a plurality of slabs having substantially duplicate undercut, interlocking edge portions, the portions of one slab being in ova-lapping juxtaposed, relation With the similar edge portionsof an adjacent slab, whereby to prevent lateral movement of one slab with respect to its adjacent slab, and common securing means for both slabs extending through said portions.
