My invention has reference to stoves, and relates more specially to that class of such devices which comprise a central heating unit and an outer ornamental casing enclosing the same. The chief purpose of the present invent-ion is to improve the general efiiciency and convenience of operation of such devices.
Another purpose thereof is to provid an auxiliary air supply for the heater, which can be easily controlled from without the outer casing.
Another object thereof is the provision of an opening in the outer casing for the removal of ashes from the base of the heater, and a closure for such opening, which, upon being opened, will be converted into a sup port for the ash-pan, or such other object as it maybe desired to support thereon.
The above-named, and other features and advantages of the invention will more fully appear in the following specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which:

The device is supported on a frame 1, provided with legs 2, the base 3 ofuthe stove resting on the inner part of the frame, and supported on said base is a fire-pot 4, from the upper edge of which is projected an angular flange 5. Mounted on said flange is the upper or shell portion 6 of the stove, surmounted by a dome 7. Within the lower part of the shell 6 is a ring 8. between which and said shell is an air-space 9. said ring being provided at intervals with protuber ances 10, in which are openings 11.. connecting the space 9 with the inner space in the stove. At the forward end of the stove the space 9 is pro iected forwardly to an intake opening 12v Above said opening is a large opening 13 in the shell 6, throughwhich fuel can be introduced into the fire-pot. Said opening is partially closed by a plate 14, hinged so as to swing inwardly upon the fuel being passed through the opening.
Supported on the outer part ofthe frame 1 is a casing 15, spaced apart from the central heater. In the lower part of the casing 15 are draft openings 16, and at the upper end thereof is a grating 17, provided with a central pivoted portion 18, beneath which is suspended a water pan 19, the plate 18 being capable of being swung to one side, as shown in 1, for the purpose of filling the pan.
In the upper part of the casing 15 is an opening 20, in line with the opening 13 in the shell 6, the opening 20 being fitted with a closure plate 21, secured to a door 22, hinged at one side of the opening 13. Fixed on the inner face of the door 22 is an apron 23, between which and said door is a space 24, communicating with the intake 12 when the door is closed. The door is also spaced from the plate 21, preventing said plate from becoming); excessively hot from radiation of heat from the door. The door 22 is also provided with openings 25. connecting the space 24 with the space between the doors. such openings being capable of being closed by a damper-plate 26 slidable on the outer face of the door 22. and provided with a handle 27. projecting through a slot 28 in the plate 21. Upon the damper plate being operated to uncover the openings 28 a current of air is caused to pass into and through the passage 9, and downwardly through the openings 11 upon the fire burning in the fire-pot 4. stimulating the combustion therein. and producing better thermal effects. The intensity of the current of air can be regulated by means of the damper 26.
In ordinary use the blank face of the easing 15 would be outermost. and the wall of the shell 6 opposite thereto is provided with an opening 29, with which connection can be made with a flue pipe in the usual manner. The stove is also fitted with grate-bars 30. in the upper part of the base 1. and one end of said base s open. and normally closed bv door 31, hinged at one side of the opening. The space in the base comprises the usual ash-pit, calculated to contain an ash-pan or other receptacle for the ashes passing through the bars 30. That part of the casing 15 in front of the door 31 is made to slope slightly. and has an opening 33, closed by a door 34, supported frame 36, and provided on their ends with lugs 37', which limit the downward movement of the door 34. In its lowered position the door 34 provides a handy support for any object that may be placed thereon, such as the ash-pan when it is being removed from :thestove, or something which it is desired to keep in a partially warmed condition. :A persons feet can also heplaced thereon-for the purpose of warming the same.-- r p A constant current of air is passing up.- wardly between the stove and easing, com :ing out at the top in ehighly heated state.
The results are such as to'make it possible to Warm a suite of rooms with oneof the heaters.
That I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
In a stove, a fire pot and heat chamber above the same, a ring at the upper edge of thefire 'pot'forinin'g therewith an air space with discharge vents directed downwardly into the fire pot; a'n inta ketor outside air at one point in said airspace, and means for regulating the passage of air through said intake.
