Description

c T.-F. BENNETT ELECTRIC LIGHTING FIXTURE Filed Sept.
INVENTOR. Fla/774.5 F Barr/ref) ATTORNEY Patented Oct. 4, 1927.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
THOMAS E. BENNETT, OF FLUSHING, NEW YORK.
ELECTRTC-LIGHTING FIXTURE.
Application filed September 11, 1926. Serial No. 184,774.
ject is to provide a deviceof this nature with crystals of new and novel design. And further objects will be hereinafter set forth.
For further comprehension of. the invention, and of the objects and advantages 15 thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
Fig. 1 of the drawing is a side view of my improved electric lighting fixture showing the globe in section.
Fig. 2 is a similar View to that shown in Fig. 1, but showing a modification of my device.
Fig. 3 is a detail view, showing a sectional view of one of the crystals and mirror and the method of attaching same.
Fig. 4 is a plan View of the in Fig. 3.
As here embodied my improved electric lighting fixture comprises electric light bulbs and 11, of conventional design and which may be of any desired capacity depending upon the size and requirements of my device, said bulbs 10 and 11 being conveniently wired as shown in Fig. 1 of the accompanying drawing at 12, and provided with conveniently located switches of conventional design, not shown on the accompanying drawing; so that said bulbs 10 and 11 may be lighted independently or together, said bulbs 10 and 11 being provided with sockets, 13 and 14, of conventional design and, suitable size. The globe 15 comprises a plurality of separate pieces, such as crystals 17, or the like, made of glass, porcelain, or any suitable material, attached together by flexible members 16, wires or the like. The inner surface is smooth as at 16 at such places as are attached the mirrors 19, elsewhere the inner said surface is of crystal contour as shown at 30 on the accompanying drawing. The outer surface is formed as shown in the detail, Fig. 4, and has a crystal 17 contour, consisting of twelve surdetail shown faces, at relative angular positions, and ten minating or converging into one common center 18, the size and number of said crystals 17 depending upon the size and requirements of the said globe 15, the said globe 15 having at its upper extremity a suitable means of attaching a dome 28 of conventional design and having suitably attached thereto a mirror 31, so as to deflect the light from the bulb 10 in a downward direction. The mirrors 19 are placed so as to distribute the density of the light in any desired or required direction; in Fig. 1 of the accompanying drawing, I have shown the said mirrors 19, so. placed as to throw the light in the direction as indicated by the dash lines 20, I have also shown a mirror 20 attached to the under side of the base adapted to support the socket 14, the said base being provided with apertures 21 so as to permit the light to be deflected on the lower portion of my improved device, it being understood that the said mirrors 19 may be placed in any desired location on the said globe 15. I
Referring in particular to Fig. 2 of the accompanying drawing, the electric light bulb 21, of conventional design and any desired capacity, and having a standard socket 22, attached to the base 23, and suitably atv tached thereto a mirror 32, so as to deflect the light from the bulb 11 in an upward direction, is wired, and provided with a conveniently located switch, not shown in the accompanying drawing, so that the said electric light bulb 21, may be lighted or turned off independently of the heretobefore mentioned electric bulbs, 10 and 11. The said electric. bulb 21 having a suitable cover 29 of any material such as glass, colored glass or porcelain or any material such as may be used for this purpose.
Referring in particular to Fig. 3 and Fig. 4 of the accompanying drawing; the heretobefore mentioned mirrors are attached to said crystals 17 of the said globe 15 as follows: Two wires 24 of any suitable material, are attached to or soldered to the bracket 25, said wires being bent in an L shape and cast or formed in the said crystals 17 of the said globe 15, when the said globe is cast, blown or otherwise made, the said bracket having a suitable support or bearing for the pin 26; the said mirrors 19, having suitably attached thereto at its rear center, a bracket 27 with a suitable bearing to accommodate by Letters Patent of the United States is as follows 1. An etee-t-r-i'c light comprising two electrio light bulbs and sockets attached at the top and bottom of the inside of a globe; and
being to Wired and provided with switches to light both bulbs together or independentlyysaid globe comprising plurality of c i' ystals "attached to one another by flexible In'enibers, and a smooth inner surface and a crystal contour inner surface and outer "surface of crystal contour; mirrors attached to the said smooth inner surface of the said crystals comprising the globe, and so located as to distribute the density ofthe lighti'n any desired manner.
An electric light comprising two elec tric light bulbs and sockets attached. at the top and bottom of the insi deof a globe; and having attached thereto a dome a'nda mirror, so attached as to deflect the light in a downward position, and a base having attached thereto a mirror, so attached as to deflect the light in an upward position and third electric light 'bulb attached below the said bottom bulb, and placed outside the said globe, which comprises a plurality of crystals attached to one another, by flexible adapted 'to support the said socket of one.
of the first named sockets, aperturesleeated in the said base, so as to permit the light from the first mentioned electric light to be deflected through the bottom portion of the gleb-e, adorne attached to the "uppe-r portion of the globe, a mirror attached thereto, sc-
to deflect the light downwardly tltrerefrom.
In testimony whereof I have aflixed :my signature.
