BUILDING CLAMP.
i Application iled July 17,
i used. An object in particular is to provideV a clamp for securing a piece of wood to ay post 1n such manner 'that the clamp may be "removed while leaving the post standing.
My device is adapted'especially .for use inl connection with staging or false `'work employed in the laying of cement floors.
The full objects and advantages of my invention will appear in connection with the detailed description thereof, and the novel features of my inventiveL idea -will be particularly pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanyingidrawings which illustrate a practical embodiment of my invention,-
Fig. 1 is a view showing the clamp in ele.- vation and used in connection with the vfalse work for a cement floor. Fig. 2 is a viewat right angles to Fig. l. Fig. 3 is aV plan view of the clamp.
Asshown in the drawings, the clamp consists of a substantially U-shaped member havingtwo side arms 1() and 12 and a connecting end member 14. The free end'ot the arm 1() is bent to form a. hook 16 asbest shown in Fig. 2 while the free end of the arm 12 is bent over to form an eye 18 upon which is pivoted a bar'2() which forms a fourth sidev for the clamp. It will be apparent from Fig. y3 that one end ofthe bar 20 is provided with af hole through which a portion of the eye 18 is passed before being en` tirely bent over. In order that` the inner edge of thebar may extend straight across ywhen theclamp is in use, the outer edge'of the bar is cut away toward its free end as indicated at 22 for engaging the hook. This Y out away edge as will be apparent is adapted to swing into contact with the curved portion of the hook.

1926. Serial No. 123,129.
, The operation and advantages of my in- Ventron will vnow be obvious. Referring to Figs. -l and 2, a temporary floor F is partly supported .by posts P to which blocks .B are .secured by the clamps .any number of which `may be employed according to the number of posts. These blocks support horizonta'ls or-beams H which in turn support stringers .Sv Von which the temporary iioor F rests. It.
will be noted fromrFig. 2 that the clamps when positioned `for use occupy an inclined position and that the weight carried by the blocks cause av binding or clamping action. In case the clamp does not bite into the wood sufliciently for holding the parts firmly together, nails N may be driven into the wood below the end member 14 and above the pivoted bar 20, thereby effectively ypreventing liability of the clamp slipping. After the cement C has been poured, the blocks B, the beams H and stringers S are soon thereafter removed vupon releasing the clamps. The
posts P are ordinarily left standing for The clamps can be readily removed from the posts for immediate re-use on account ofthe detachable engagement of the pivotedbar 20 with the hook 16. The provision of the eye 18 prevents the bar from becoming entirely detached and lost.
I claim:
A building clamp comprising a. U-shaped member having a hook at one end thereof and an eye at the other end thereof and a flat bar pivotally connected at one end with sa'id eye and detachably engaging said hook at the other end, the outside edge of said bar being cut to reduced width at the last mentioned end in order that the inside Ymargin of the bar may extend perpendicularly to the arms of the U-shaped member when the clamp is in use. n
'In testimony whereof I hereunto afHX my signature.
