This invention relates to sheet metal Winy 'dowlsashes such as are fused in motor vehicles, particularly motor busses, railway cars etcl, Where the sash members as the stiles and rails are very narrow and hais for its object asparticularly`- light, rigid construction and arrangement of the sash Vand sash holder and guide. t The invention consists in the novel features and in the combinations and constructions hereinafter set forth and claimed. In describing this invention', reference is lhad to the accompanying drawingy infvvhich like characters designate parts inall the views. f v v Figure 1 is a fragmentary elevation, partly in section, of a'window construction embodying myinvention. Figure 5 is a sectional view on line 5 5, Figure 4.
This Window sash construction comprises, generally, a sash .in which the sashmembei's particularly` the stiles and `rails ,are inarrov'sy andformed of-shect metal in the form'oifa channel at the edge'v of the sash for receiving' a Window guide, and a *".sash 1holder mounted on the narrowmember `or stile of the sash entirely Within the width ofthe stile or sash member and having `a latch member movable through the ,front face. or

rlhe window guide 5 is in the form of a channel with the edge ot' its side flanges against the window frame s and with the bottom iiange arranged inward toward the inner edge of the stile l. The side wall of the member 5 which underlies that wall of the stile on which the sash lock is mounted is formed with openings at intervals at 28' for receiving the sash lock ll and as these openings are located in the side at the 'free edges oi' such side, the guide 5 is braced by means of blocks 29 located adjacent said slot, the blocks 29 being arranged between the flangesof the guide 5. rlhe guide 5 is ield in position by screws 30 extending through the bottom of the channel ot the guide 5 and through the -blocks or braces 29. Y
rlhe latch member 1l is 'formed with a stop 3l 'for coacting with the base plate l0 and limiting the inward movement of the sash member and the nose of the sash is in the form of a hook for engaging the wall 32 at one end of each slot 28 and the hook is formed with a ratcheting surface so that when the sash is moved in a retrograde direction, usually down, the sash holder can ratchet owing to the fact that the surface will engage the lower ends of the slots 28 at 34e. To facilitate the ratcheting, the blocks Q9 are also `formed with inclined surfaces 35 tor engaging the ratcheting surface 33 of the sash holder.
Owingto this construction, of the sash lock and of the sash and the arrangement of the window guide, the sash holder can be mounted on a comparatively narrow sash 'formed ci' thin sheet metal and no part of the sash lock overlies the glass or extends beyond the outline of the sashat any point so that the sash and its lock vcan be conned in a comparatively small space.
