Be it known that l, Isaac M, Pease, a citizen or the United States, residing at Cincinnati, in thc county of' Hamilton and VStato ot (Ehio, have invented a new and uset'ul Truss Pad, of which the following is a specification. f
',lhis invention aims to j provide novel means for moving a truss pad inwardly or outwardly with respect to the body of the wearer, it being possible to swing the pad about an axis, and to move the pad longitudinally ot a support, the aforesaid adjustments being independent of cach other v and enabling the operator to arrange the pad properly to accommodate the widely different conditions existing with respect to ruptures.
It is within the province of the disclosure to improve generally and to enhance the utility of devices of that type to which the invention appertains.
lVith the above and other objects in view, which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details ot construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that, within the scope oit what is claimed, changes in the precise embodiment of the invention shown can be made without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying` drawings 2- Figure 1 shows in elevation, a device constructed in accordance with the invention;
Figure 2 is a section on the line 2--2 of Figure 1; Figure 3 is an end elevation showingthe button on the post; Figure 4 is an elevation showing a portion of the support.
In carrying out the invention, there is provided a pad including a body 1. The body ol the pad may be made in various ways, but, as shown, the body ot the pad includes :in outer plate 2 and an inner plate 3 connected by clamping' screws 4. The cushion 5 may be ot any desired sort, but, by way ot illustration, merely, the cushion is shown as including a casing 6, having' its edge bound between the plates 2 and il, a stuffing being located within the cushion.
A socket 8 is secured to the outer 'plate 2 and extends through the inner plate 3, the socket having' an external head 9 located in au enlare'cd seat 1 0 formed in the outer plate 2, A set screw or like clamping device ll is mounted in the head 9ct the socket 8. A channel`12 is 'formed in the plate 2 transversely thereof, as shown in Figure 1, the channel communicating with the seat and being alined with the set screw 11,1the purpose oi the channel being?, to permit a screw driver to be applied readily to the screw 1l..Il rJfhe numeral 14 marks a post, threaded for adjustment in the socket 8 and into the head' 9 thereof. A projection 15 extends 'from the post 14 between the convolutions of the threadon the post and is located adjacent to the inner end ot the post, the projection 15 beingadapted to cooperate with the thread in the socket 8, to prevent the post from being' threaded accidentally, out of the socket, thereby bringing about a detachment of the pad 'from the post. At its outer end, the post 14 is `provided with an enlarged button 16 having radial ribs 17.
A screw 18 or like clamping device is threaded into the outer end of the post 14 and has an enlarged head 19, a loop-shaped handle 20 beingpivot/ed at 21 to the head 19 of the screw 1S, it being possible to turn the handle 2O into alinement with the axis of the screw 18, when it is desired to rotate the screw, the handle being turned at right angles to the axis of the screw when not in use, asshown in Figure 2.
The numeral 22 marks a support of any desired sort, provided adjacent to one end with an elongated slot 23. The support 22 has ribs 24 located adjacent to the slot.
The screw 18 passes through the slot 23 of the support 22, the support being bound between the head 19 of the screw and the button 1G on-the post 14. By loosening the screw 18, the truss pad may be turned to any desired position about an axis represented by the screw. Further when the screw 15% is loosened, the pad may be shifted longitudinally of the support 21, the screw moving); in the slot "When the head 19 ot the screw 153 is seated against the support 2l., the ribs 24 on the support coact with the ribs 17 on the button 16 of the post 14, to hold the pad on the support 21 in any position to which the pad may have been adjusted.
The post 14 may be threaded inwardly oroutwardly in the socket 8, thereby to vary the pressure aitorded by the pad on the i rupture and when the post has been adjusted as aforesaid, the Apost and the pad may be held against relative movement by advanc`- ing the set screw 1l until the same engages the post.
It is to be observed' that the'idevice comprises means whereby several independent adjustments may be secured. Thus, the pressure may be increased byadvancing-the Ipad through the instrumentality of the post 14 `which. isv threaded into ythe socket S.v The :pad nmay i' be shifted alongi the support 21 .longitudinallythereof,.owing to the presence oi the .slot :23 whichvreceives the `screw 18. Further, the padmay be swung piyotally :on an axis :represented by the axis of the -screw 1S.
