UNITYD STATES PATENT ori-fica..
GEORGE EGEB, F .NEIN BRITAIN, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR TO THE STANLEY WORKS, OF NEW BRITAIN, CONNECTICUT, A CORPORATION OF CONNECTICUT.
application alea'my 1s, 192s. seran no. saam.
To aE 'whom it may concern: Y
Be it known that I, Gnoncn Edna, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New Britain, in the county of Hartford and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements'in a. Display Stand, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to display apparatus.
One of the objects of the invention is to provide an improved form .and arrangement of parts for a stand for displaying articles, such as screw drivers, chisels,-and the like, which can be placed thereon.
Another object of the invention is to provide an improved form for a display stand which is of the knock-down type, that is to say it can be taken apart and packed fiat.
Another object of the invention is to provide a novel form of knock-down display stand which can be easily and cheaply constructed, and also assembled verv readily, and the construction of which is such that the mechanism used for locking it together can be readily understood.
Other objects of the invention will be in part obvious and in part pointed outvherelnafter.
The invention accordingly consists in the features of constructiorn combination of elements and arrangement of parts which will be exemplified inthe construction hereinafter set forth, and the scope of the application of which will be indicated in the appended claim.
In the drawing forming a part of this specification and in which similar reference characters refer to similar parts;
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a 'display stand constructed in accordance with the practice of the invention; and
Fig. 2 is a top view of the stand shown in Fig. 1 in cross section.
Referring to the drawings, the stand' comprises a pair of upright standards A1 and 2 having cross bars 3 and 4 extending therebetween, and a back 5.
The standards are each provided with a. broad foot so as to make the stand steady while on a counter or shelf. Each of the standards are slotted, as. at 6, to admit the cross bar 3 which is notched, as at 7, so as to keep the standards from spreading. The slot 6 is sufficiently deep so that the cross bars extend in a slight distance from the back ofl the standards. In each of the standards, there is also provided a groove 8 running parallel to the back and just in back ofthe cross bar. This groove 8 is slightly wider than the thickness of the back 5 so that the latter may be slid into place in this groove. 4 When the back is inplace, it will be seen that the cross bars cannot be removed from the slots 6, being held th'erein by the back. The cross bars 3 may be plain shelves, or they may be provided, as shown in the drawing, with a plurality of holes 9 to support such articles as chisels, screw complshed, among others, the objects hereinbefore referred to.
As many changes could-be made in the above construction and many apparently widely different embodiments of this invention could be made without departing from the scope thereof, it is intended that all matter contained in the above description or shown in the accompanying drawing shall be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense. For instance, it is obvious that the device may be provided with one, two, or more than two cross bars, depending on the character of the articles which it is desired to dis lay by means of the device.
It is also to e understood that the language used in the following claim is intended to cover all of the generic and specie features of the invention herein described andall statements of the scope of the invention which, as 'a matter of language, might be said tol fall therebetween.
I claim as my invention:
A display stand comprising a pair of standards, a back, and a cross bar, each standard having a vertical groove -in its innel sidel opening through the top of the cal grooves of the standards and interlock standard and provided'with a horizontal with the latter, said back ada ted toslide recess extending from its rear edge and indownwardly in the grooves and) behind said 10 tersecting and extending forwardly `from notched ends. of the cross bar to lock the 5 said vertical slot, said cross bar having Same 1n posltion.
notched opposite ends ada ted vto t in the horizontal recesses forwar ly of the verti- GEORGE EGER.
