E. L. DILLMAN DENTAL PLATE Filed NOV. .4. 1924 WITNESSES INVENTOR EDW/YRD L D/L ,LMfl/V BY W W ATTORNEYS Patented May 19, 1925.
EDWARD L. DILLMAN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
DENTAL PLATE.
Application filed November 24, 1924. Serial No. 751,985.
1 0 all whom it may canoe m:
Be it known that I, EDWARD L. DILLMAN,
a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, Jamaica, 5 borough of Queens, in the county of Queens and State of New York, have invented a. new and Improved Dental Plate, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The present invention relates to new and useful improven'ients in dentistry, and it pertains more particularly to a new and improved dental plate for artificial teeth.
It is one of the primary objects of the present invention to construct a dental plate of metal.
It is a further object of the invention to construct the plate in such. a manner that metals not belonging to the so-called proc-ious group, may be employed in forming the body of the plate.
It is a further object of the invention to provide a metal plate which when finished will have the appearance of a porcelain or ceramic plate, and, at the same time, have all of the attributes thereof.
With the above and other objects in view, reference is had to the acconipanyingdraw ing, in which the figure is a transverse sectional view of a dental plate constructed in accordance with the present invention.
Referring more specifically to the drawing, the reference numeral 5 designates the body of the dental plate. The base of this 35 body is metal and is formed in the usual.
manner of forming dental plates from other base 5.
materials, that is, by making a mouth cast from suitable plastic material and swaging or otherwise causing the metal of the body 5 to conform to said cast, after which the metal is set by any desired method. After the body of the plates has been formed, the entire outer surface thereof is covered with a suitable ceramic material, such as porcelain, which is designated in the drawing by the reference numeral 6. This ceramic coating having been applied to the body portion 5, the entire structure is subjected to a firing process, which bakes the porcelain and fuses the same to the metal The teeth, designated by the reference numeral 7, are now suitably secured and anchored to the plate.
From the foregoing it is apparent that the present invention provides a dental plate, the body of which is constructed from metal and the ceramic covering thereof protects the mouth of the wearer against irritation by the metal, thus permitting the use of a metal for the body of the plate of the non-precious group.
lVh-at is claimed is:
1. A dental pla-tecomprising a metallic body portion, and a ceramic material fused to said body portion and completely enveloping the same.
2. A dental plate comprising a metallicbody portion, a ceramic material fused to said body portion and completely enveloping the same, and a plurality of teeth anchored in said ceramic material.
EDVARD L. DILLMAN.
